Written on Mike Strange: NIT spells another disappointing end for Vols:

UT needs a strong, vocal on the floor leader because it's obvious that the coaching staff can't motivate them on a night-in and night-out basis. It seems as though this team has no pride or much of a will to win. I remember seeing Ernie Grunfeld, as a freshman, grab a teammate by the jersey and force him to listen to what he had to say. This team needs that type of leadership and they having nothing close to that.

Written on Several under-the-radar moments lost in UT's four-overtime victory :

in response to keepitreal4vols:

McBee might have the 2 most memorable shots in UT history. The shot vs Kansas as a walk on was unforgettable. And now the 3 in the 4th OT was remarkable.

I assume you are too young to remember Gary Carter.

Written on It comes full circle as Elston Turner Jr. gets crack against Vols' team his father was slighted by:

in response to Tadvol:

I just told you why UT didnt go after him .. AE broke trphy cases .. trashed the place .. UT wouldnt have anyhting to do with AE till 1980's ...

If I remember correctly, they also destroyed seats, spread trash, fighting, etc. It was basically a small riot.

Written on Georgia delivers a punch in gut to Vols, 68-62:

I've seen better ball handling teams in middle schools.

Written on UT confirms football staff hirings :

Just like the football team, a coaching staff's success depends on chemistry and everyone buying into the HC's system. That system must then be succesfully conveyed to the players. Cosches who can successfully exploit their teams strengths and disguise their weaknesses and are able to recognize and exploit other team's weaknesses will be successful. This staff has all had success and seem capable. Let's just hope the chemistry is there and all can be on the same page. This would be a huge change from what we have experienced the past few years.

Written on Tee Martin turns down Tennessee homecoming, will stay at Southern Cal :

in response to SupportVols:

Where's Kiffin's "Show Cause"?

"Show Cause" is why Bruce Pearl is not coaching anywhere. It's suicide for a school to hire anyone under a Show Cause penalty. Not sure Taylor is under such clause yet but he could be soon. If so, any school that employs him will be on the NCAA's "Naughty" list and every action will be monitored. That's the last thing we need at this point.

Written on Do you believe Butch Jones is the right choice to be UT's coach?:

in response to TheStupidPolice:

Enough with this BS that he's a good fit because he wanted to be here. Of course he wanted to be here. The Big East is falling apart and Cincinnati is staring a return to Conference USA square in the face. LOL He was on the verge of going to the biggest mess in all of college football in Colorado. His options were pretty limited.

And so were UT's

Written on Do you believe Butch Jones is the right choice to be UT's coach?:

in response to Volsguy:

Urban Meyer fell into a Gold mine as did Gene Chizik. Ohio state was not in this horrible position so seem to think it was and I still don't think Urban Meyer is a great coach. Florida Sucked wwhen he was coaching and Tebow left. Dave Hart sucks and I now can't stand the bastard. Plus I hate everyone who bashes others for NOT liking this hire because the truth be its a stupid hire and sometimes its ok to admit that. HORRIBLE HIRE!!!!

I've read hundreds of dumb posts today but yours is by far the dumbest.

Written on Butch Jones promises 'best staff in the country' :

in response to TheStupidPolice:

I hope he can use the resources Hart has given him to go out and put together the best staff. It's going to be a hard sale. And he is going to have to go out and sale himself to coaches because he sure as hell wasn't planning on putting together the best at Colorado or Purdue.

I'm real worried. This wasn't the unifying, exciting hire we wanted. And we need. The brand is dying. You wear the power T outside SEC country and people think you're a Texas fan. They don't recognize it. ESPN is going to have all-access specials of the spring practices at Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M and probably now Arkansas. ESPN will have more commercials with Saban, Miles, Richt and Revelie. Tennessee can't even get a simple score shown on Gameday Final. We want Herbstreit and Blackledge in town, but we're stuck with Ed Cunningham. The brand is fading away while all our biggest rivals are marketing bonanzas.

I'll support Butch Jones. I'll wear my orange everywhere I go and put my blowup Smokey in the yard on Gameday, but let's be real. We're on the verge of a second recession. Considering who our first two opponents are next season, we'll be lucky to have 75K in Neyland for those games. Then we face the worst scheduling nightmare in football history. We have back to back road games at Oregon and at Florida. The Titans wouldn't ask for that. Both those games, with what could be a very depleted roster, have the potential to be absolute disasters. If that does happen, the South Alabama game draws less than 60K. Then comes Georgia, SC and Alabama. Poor ol' Butch Jones might be toast before he even has a chance to get started. The fan base will be HOT!

I think the vast majority of fans were hoping for a coach that was a known commodity. A guy we knew could coach at the highest level, handle the pressure, win big games, recruit, win championships, unify the fan base and grow the brand. Butch Jones isn't that. He's a hope. I don't care what any of you say, you don't know if this guy can do it. You're just hoping. Hell, I'm hoping. But I wanted someone I didn't have to give a chance to. I wanted a guy that I knew would give Tennessee a chance.

I hate to be all doom and gloom. I hope Jones is the next General Neyland. But at this point, this has all the makings of an epic, epic fail.

STUPID! How can you say this has the makings of an epic, epic fail since Jones has won everywhere he has been and we have no idea who will be on his staff. Anyone who expects us to beat Bama, Oregon, SC, GA & FL next year is also STUPID. Just give the guy a chance. We are at the bottom and we are not going to be competitive week-in and week-out for a couple of years. As long as we can see continued progress, we should be happy and everything will eventually be okay.

Written on Charlie Strong spurns UT offer for new deal at Louisville:

Since we already appear to be eternally doomed in football hell, looks like we may have to sell our souls completely to the Devil and go ahead and hire Petrino. Our options seem to be dwindling by the hour.

Written on Brendan Quinn: Kentucky's struggling offense vs. UT's struggling defense a matchup to watch :

A pick-6 to end it would be appropriate since neither team has played a lick of defense all year. At least one of the defenses would have something positive to remember
