Arnett is my pick for UT's key for success this week. I think that he is going to put his stamp on this program beginning Saturday night. Yards after the catch, making people miss in the flat and being the perfect compliment for a struggling run game and relieving the pressure and double teams off of Rogers. Arnett's opportunity to rise up will be against Georgia this week and I think he gets it done and raises the bar and expectations for the rest of this season for Vol Nation post Hunter. Go Vols!
I think the arrest of the OLB and sack leader is more of a distraction than any Georgia fan would like to admit. Just think how we would feel about our team's morale if the shoe was on the other foot. We have the momentum, the home field advantage, and the hunger to win this one one Saturday night. I'm feeling it! GBO!

Love the song. Think I'll play it at halftime once I begin to see it happening in the swamp. I can't wait it has been a long time coming. GBO!
I'm seeing some well timed screens that are going to gash the Florida defense when they are bringing the house to try and pressure Bray. "It's Poole at the 40, the 50, the 40, the 30, the 20, the 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and into the checker-boarded swamp...Touchdown Big Orange!"
If Lane Kiffin were still here we would not just have Kenbrell Tompkins, we would have the NCAA still breathing down our necks for something stupid that Kiffin just did or said, we would be bowl ineligible and be under a scholarship reduction. No, I'm glad that Kenbrell is not a wide receiver at the University of Tennessee and is somewhere else, just like Lane.
"There is strength in numbers, but numbers aren't always a strength"Gotta love coach Dooley. We are better this year on the defensive line, how much better is the question. We will find out how much better on Saturday. I hope we have a good showing on national television. GBO
This week is going to be a great test for our defense and for our football team. A solid game here should help us crack the Top 25 heading into the Swamp.
I for one was not able to watch last weeks game, only had bumbling Bob to listen to. Looking forward to watching this years team for the first time so as to get a proper reading on our talent and level of play. I am holding my opinions about this years team until after the Cincinnati game. I still don't think anyone has a real good feel for this team after the first game. We are all about to find out this Saturday. First televised game and first real opponent...now I'm pumped! GBO!
I'm just glad that we are playing a better opponent so that we will have a national spotlight for the first time this year. Hope that we show strong on ESPN2, from the crowd in Neyland to the players and coaches on the field. I want to see a team that rises to the occasion and performs well under pressure. We need the resurgent Vol program to show up before a national audience on Saturday. GBO!
I too wish somehow we found another John Ward in the making. I just can't imagine having to listen to Bob Kesling until he's 70 ;(

halloffamebowler, very well put. I am neither young nor old in this stage of my life, but I would like you to know that most of us fans realize and understand the importance of tradition and loyalty here at UT, BOTH of which your generation have given us. So thanks for giving your all to Tennessee and hope you have several more great seasons to share with your wife at Neyland Stadium. God bless and Go Vols!
Our youthfulness at many positions will become the greatest strength of this team, i.e. the offensive line. Yes, next year we will be very tough to beat, but I actually think the solid play of the offensive line this year is going to pave the way for a 9 win season this year which will include a couple of big upsets. Dooley will have a successful year in 2011. Oh and Rajion Neal will be back @ full strength as a hybrid receiver/running back for the first upset of the year in the Swamp. Mark it down. Go Vols!
in response to johnlg00#206211: I get your point, but if it was a no-brainer, everybody would be doing it. The Oregon coach has specialized in it and recruited players and staff for it, and it took a couple of years to get that whole system in place. A hurry-up football offense is lots more complex than a fast-break offense in basketball, to which Oregon's offense has been compared. However, just as fast-break offenses in basketball can overwhelm out-manned teams but falter against deep, disciplined ones, Auburn showed the Ducks that their offense isn't infallible against a team that can keep up with it.

johnlg-good points and good post
CDD cracks me up with his analogies. I for one like his communication skills, as I also love to use a good analogy. I enjoy his interviews a lot more than CPF (bland/boring) and CLK (smartbutt/smug). Coaches now have to be good in many facets of the business in order to be successful, the podium, recruiting living room, practice field, locker room, and game time. We have us a good one in CDD. Go Vols!
good piece. I for one am excited about this years squad on both sides of the ball but specifically I am ready to see our safeties laying the law down on everyone who comes their way. Our defensive ends will be applying pressure on the qb's this year which should translate into more turnovers for the secondary. Looking forward to seeing a strong Tennessee DEFENSE once again up on the Hill. This alone will keep us in every game because Defense is what wins Championships. I'll hang up and listen. Go Vols!
Fine tuning for a few more days then it's on to game week preparations! Getting excited...everybody is undefeated and I'm encouraged about this season and the direction of the program. Go Vols
Great article. Like to get a feel for the person behind the number and position. Bray seems like his future here is going to be really bright and that his winning mentality will spread through the the entire team and not just the huddle. We need a few more around him to step up like this to really raise the bar back to Tennessee's high high standard. Every season at least 10 wins and competing for the eastern division. I...... gotta feelin'
here's to the future because the present is nauseating
this season is officially in the tankat least Tyler looked good throwing the ball

That was my first thought Nola.
An additional thought for the game is ball control. I think that ball control is going to factor in huge. Playing keep away with long time-consuming drives will do two things, keep Oregon's offense from getting in a rhythm while keeping our defense fresh. Man i want to get a win this Saturday :)
Both Tennessee and Oregon will find out about themselves this week as last week was not an indicator for either team. I hope that we play well and continue to build from week to week. If we can put together a good game plan on D and move the chains on O I think we win a close one and bring a load of confidence into the Florida game. Nothin' to it but to do it. One game at a time. GO BIG ORANGE!
We all know that their offense is talented. They will score in Neyland. The question for me is how our O-line stacks up against their D-line. If we can run block and pass protect well enough I like our chances of pulling out a tough win at home. Wilcox is definitely going to help tip the scales in our favor. So I think the key to victory is not our frosh receivers playing well under pressure, but our young line playing well against a stiffer opponent. Lets win it in the trenches SEC style boys.GO BIG ORANGE!
While I agree the Martin game should be a good opportunity to involve Bray in a series or two, I think that it is more important that our starter gets almost all the work. Simms is our priority. Getting his game timing and adjustments down with our receivers as well as making all the proper line calls and reads is crucial for him this week. I think that Simms needs the confidence of being game ready come Oregon and Florida more than Bray. I would like to see the offense moving with a good flow and chemistry by the second third and fourth quarters on Saturday. If Bray gets to play a little then good, but I think Simms should be our main focus this Saturday.
2010 College Football Season is now upon us!!!GO ON AND GET UP IN THERE BIG ORANGE!

Right on....Reveiz is one that I really hope has a great year. What a feel good story to make it back especially if he can pick up where he left off and make 1st team SEC. Couldn't appen to a nicer guy. Good luck Nick and go Vols!

Well said, I really like this kids maturity. Sounds and looks like the part of a real leader, one with skills and integrity. Just what the coaches we have now are looking for. Guys that are good in both senses of the word. Go Worley and go Dooley. You guys will make for a good relationship up on the Hill.GO BIG ORANGE!
i can honestly handle Priest but I sure wish we could somehow replace Bob. He is just awful, what makes it worse is he followed John Ward. What a change of pace. Let Bob call the BB games, but find someone else to cover the football games. Heck, if Kelly does a good job, let him have it. At least he will have a good football i.q.GO BIG ORANGE!
in response to VolTennisFan: The best athletic program on campus last year was the men's tennis team. It will be that way again this year. A tennis player beat out Eric Berry at the Volscars as the top male athlete. Pretty impressive. I suggest we start thinking about a little tennis!

Glad the tennis program is doing well...maybe we should put down the clay and put up the net inside of Neyland. Do you think 100,000 strong will still be screaming. There is a reason why tennis facilities are so small :)IT'S FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!
having this young team, either in age or in experience, get a good feel for the game day flow is actually going to really be a big factor in settling the nerves and having our younger guys ready to focus on the task at hand. I think that this will help translate to a solid UTM game with fewer mental miscues. We all know that the game itself is nothing much more than a walk through for Oregon. Oregon will be prep for Florida. I think CDD is setting this teams and staffs preparation progressions well. We should see that at each stage as the pressure increases and the talent becomes stiffer we will be improving AHEAD of the learning the curve instead of BEHIND. I can remember so many times in the past where we seem to learn that one thing a hair too late after the Florida game is over. I for one am ready to see a team prepared and AHEAD of the curve. I think upsets and surprises are in store for us this year. Doing things the right way, with integrity, honor and respect this year will cause the football to go through the uprights and not into the boobs of big Cody. That my friend was Kiffboy karma. Dooley's way is the right way. GO BIG ORANGE!
I'm pumped. Good to see the likely starting line ups called out and even better knowing the walk through has increased the players sense of being a part of something much larger than themselves as they recited the game maxims. It is so important that these players buy into carrying on the traditions and high standards of the Vol family that they are now a part of. We need our team not just to play with skills and talents but with heart, pride and a sense of destiny. We will need that edge when the gators and tide come for their visit into Neyland's house. That needs to be our fiery edge, allowing the success of the past to bleed into who we are and how we play, as winners who win and leave it all on the field every Saturday....did I mention I'm pumped?Go Big Orange!

Just what I was thinking Piney Flats
Looking for good reports from the Defense with the new blitz packages along with continued progress from the O-line and the running game. Like CDD said, it's hard to be happy when you are playing yourself. Season is rapidly approaching.......GBO!
hope they can all be productive early, which means they are able to get their timing down with Sims
anything big that begins anywhere near the o-line is good. We need help in a hurry. I really like DD and his approach however, I do miss that feeling that we were in the hunt for every top-flight recruit out there. Why do i feel like the Florida's, Auburn's, and Alabama's of the world are leaving us spinning when it comes to signing top recruits?GBO!
I will always respect CPF. He was a good coach, a good man, and a good leader for the young kids that came through his system.
hope he gets to start there? :)
A lot of influence because for me the NFL is secondary to college football. So for me I will follow the NFL team that has drafted college players of interest, i.e. former Vols. I will also being paying attention to which college QB's have greater success at the next level, Tebow, Crompton, Bradford, etc.. So yes, I am now a Chiefs fan! Go Vols!
We need to have one of them emerge as a real leader for our young line. If the center position can get taken care of I think the rest of the puzzle will come together and make for an adequate O line. I like what Dooley said, he feels it's the running back that makes the line and not vice-versa. I think we have the backs with the ability to create. Go Vols!
What a goof ball
I second the call big mean offensive linemen
We sure need it to be one of our Sr.'s from the offensive side of the ball, namely Crompton or Hardesty. If either of them one the MVP award for our team it would mean that the offense played well and we put some points on the board. GBO!
I am really glad to know that we are beginning to focus on "game week" preparations. I have an uneasy feeling in my stomach about the VT game with all the distractions. I really do hope that CLK is correct when he says none of this is distracting his players. However I think the possibility with the coaching turnovers and the recruiting issues there are a number of things to be distracted with. Lets just focus on one more win. GBO!
Tennessee is actually in great shape even with the end of the year coaching departures. Here's why. The two big changes both affect Florida negatively. Gran to FSU will cause us to lose some of south Florida's recruits, but it will definitely cause Florida to lose more. Gran will generate even more control across the entire state of Florida pulling in more into FSU and balancing out the talent and rivalry of UF and FSU. Number 2, Charlie Strong heading to Louisville is going to cause the Gators to lose yet even more connections in the state of Florida as he will begin to pull some of his players and connections to Louisville. To put it plainly what hurts Florida in recruiting helps Tennessee. The way I see it Gran to FSU and Strong to Louisville affects Florida adversely much more than Tennessee.

When I read Berry's quotes I was thinking the exact same thing. I know people say it is not a possibility, but it actually is. What about Peyton, he was one cheap shot away from lowering his draft staus as well, but he chose to return for his Sr. season and into even more a fan favorite. If Eric doesn't get the pick return yardage record and would like to go out on top next year rather than his team having an up and down season his Jr. year, it really is a possibility. Maybe he should phone up Peyton and receive some consultation.I'm proud of my BIG OrangeGo Vols
The hero of this game will likely come down to the play of Daniel Lincoln. If he is 100% in his field goal attempts we will win the game. He is going to be forced to make a few long pressure filled kicks. I have a hunch if he plays well we win a close one down in Alabubba. GBO!

Well said Wilsoncity,I too agree that we have indeed made the transition, not because of a blow out win against WST. Kentucky, but because there is a different mindset and confidence on the Hill now. Also I agree that our win today will be accomplished in a physically dominant fashion. May the Witch_Doctor's bones be safe and sound for another week.GBO!
