Phired Phil's parting shot. I guess he is settling all debts...
To all of those who quote Fulmer's W/L record, and say that the next coach will not match that; that may be so, as we will never see the rash of Shulas, Goffs, Donnans, etc. that Fulmer had to feast on, again.
I would also say that no matter where Fulmer goes, HE will not match it either...
This decision has hurt Stephens stock as well. Fulmer seems to have no problem throwing him under the bus. I wonder why?
poof!

Did he ever coach against Florida? I didn't see it in there...

OK, here is the proper link for our new OC...

Two words - Bud Foster, Defensive Coordinator at Virginia Tech
...wait, that's seven words...
Otherwise, I think we need this guy as our new OC
I think we need this guy as our new OC...
Time to gather and evaluate talent as if it were day one. Let the ones that want it the most play the last two.
I can see the headline now: Fulmer goes to Clemson. Retains the name "The Great Pumpkin" and faces off with Cut and Spurrier each year.
Muschamp may go to Auburn if there is a turnover there.
Someone needs to look at Bud Foster DC at VA Tech. He will make a great HC for someone given the chance.
Overstreet just said that he saw the best team in the country in Lubbock last night.
"I coach them," he said. "I'm responsible for them. That's on me. I have to do a better job with those guys."
No Coach, not "have to do a better job...", SHOULD have done a better job...SHOULD have!!
I don't see how Clawson can look people in the eye and throw that kid (Stephens) under the bus like that. Clawson has been a failure as OC this year, and he throws this kid under the bus. "The book on him is..." That is cowardly.
in response to tnbigg: Next thing you know they'll start selling tickle me Fulmo dolls of Vicky and Phil and whenever you tickle them they chuckle and chortle and twist back and forth in exact replication of their joy expressed for evryone to see after getting dashed by Wyoming yesterday. Sure to be hot sellers among the great phil-osophers and attack ites. The marketing theme? The Tennesse hyena family - Ma and Pa go chortling...

Funny!
Fulmer's quote is typical...
"If we don't throw those (two interceptions) we win 7-0.''
I'm sorry, but I have heard that line too long...IF?...IF????
How about this one Coach...IF you had done a better job with this team, we wouldn't be in this mess. IF you had done better with player development we wouldn't be the cellar dwellers of the SEC. IF you cared about this university you wouldn't take the 6M. That is unearned money IMO...

The majority of Fulmer's wins were at the expense of second and third tier teams. Look at the last 7 years record and get back to us. Especially his record against top ten teams
Are really that stupid?"
Shipper is dead on. Take the medicine - it's the only way.
in response to shoalcreekvol: I'm sick and tired of the players acting like a bunch of whiny, spoiled children. It's been a problem for a long time, but it reached a high point this week after CPF's, ummm, resignation. Memo to players: You freakin' lied to us. You ran around crying and screaming about injustice, lashing out against the AD and school that gave you a chance you obviously don't deserve, and bellowing about poor Coach Fulmer and how he has been mistreated. You said playing for him was like being part of a family and that you were going to give all you have to send him out on top. You said you'd honor him. You lied. Worse than just lying, you did the one thing your great leader was too proud to EVER do: You quit. You rolled over. Pansies. And for that you will forever be the team that turns my stomach. And you're the only team about which I've ever said you don't deserve to wear the orange. You're a mixed bag of solid players, great players, and division III players, but collectively you're a pathetic bunch of undisciplined wimps. If there was really "justice" in all this, as you demand, you'd play the last two games in pink jerseys. The orange deserves better.

As hard of a pill to swallow as this is...I feel exactly the same way as you do.
It's time to rebuild the tradition.
Well, whoever the new coach is, I am looking forward to a new beginning.
This is a great place for young men to play football. Great fans, facilities and stadium. Let's give them a great coach and start building the tradition again...

That was a classic line. McKay had bunches of them. I used to love watching his press conferences.
Very fitting for this team this year though, huh jim?

you're right, voice.
Fulmer wanted to stay to turn this thing around. How far down was he going to let it go before beginning?
So, is he coaching with less zeal, or are we just getting worse as the season goes?
4th and 18....overthrown again!
WE LOST! WE LOST TO WY FOR HOMECOMING! WYOMING!?!?
WY never scored an offensive point.....@*%$#*$!!!!!
I have to say that Crompton doesn't look quite as bad as he did earlier this year, but man, this is painful.
Driving down the field now...don't blow it Crompton, please...
So, are we not better off with Foster on the bench? At least we might have found a running back for next year.
What a shame. It looks like Foster will not get the record after all.
TD TN!
good drive.
Keep it up!

I think Fulmer has obviously turned this thing around...wait a minute...poor pass by Crompton...never mind...
Bartender, I'll have a Crown & Coke please.....
3rd and 12 and they get 13...don't tell me how great our defense is playing.
Crompton fumble!
Arrrggggg!

here comes Crompton....jeez!

Well, aren't you the clever one then! Mommy must be proud of you! Do you also go to the mall around Christmastime and tell all the kids that there ain't no Santa? Go on, show'em how clever you are.
I DO know who you are. You are the one that has the answer to everything - the keeper of all the secrets.
in response to whocares: naive???? Laughable. not once have I said I didn't think a change was needed. Am I sorry it came to that? Darn right. I hate to see a man who invested his entire adult life into a program have to be forced out of something he loves. Stop and think of everything you love in your life and have it taken away for WHATEVER reason. Did you ever once place yourself in his or someone else's shoes to imagine the pain? I highly doubt it. If so, are you posting to impress your friends? Are you ashamed at the water cooler to applaud a man who's done things the RIGHT way his entire time at a University he LOVES? Mind you... once again, I NEVER... repeat NEVER said a change wasn't do... but my Mother, Grandfather, Teachers, Preachers taught me it wasn't polite to kick a man when he's down. Was it needed ? yes, and I'm excited about the opportunities that lay ahead for my school, our fan base, and our program? Indeed. But Sir, don't call this one naive. I have been on the side of what these players are going through, I've been on the side of what these coaches are going through, and I saw how it was handled as a player, and then saw how it was handled as a coach. And until you walk a mile in someones shoes, it's best to take high road , and not the low. You sir have shown time after time you choose to take the low road as many here do. I don't think anything I said in my post was a CRY for Coach to stay but a PLEA for everyone to get on the wagon and pull for these kids and coaches. It's a done deal, we have a change coming and for that we should be thankful, glad... etc... but to constantly degrade and belittle these kids and coaches considering the fact....most of you have never played/coached on this level is a FARCE and shows that .. the clueless can only offer degrading comments instead of insight to correction ( legitimate and intelligent ones) but no you resort to name calling... ( PATHETIC, and shows ones true character) snide remarks, asinine assumptions and downright hogwash on yours and others mumblings. If you have to tear someone else down to make yourself fell better than.. i think it's YOU... or whomever has the problem instead of the one or others you're trying to tear down.

You come on here and basically call 90% of the posters on here morons, and proceed to give a diatribe like you are Knute Rockne, and then you follow up with,

in response to whocares: The term oxygen thieves comes to mind about 90% of the posters here, hmmm wonder why? I think on a whole, all said and done, the majority of the fans got what they wanted (or at least the masses who post here,) so instead of slamming the team or the coaches would it be too much to ask to just pull for the team the remainder of the season? Yeah, that's a strecth considering most here don't have a clue what these kids and coaches are going through. Pretty sure before the UCLA game they all decided to phone the season in. Yeah, I think I read that somewhere. PATHETIC is the word I would use to describe 90% of the bloggers/posters here. Might be slightly higher. I'm sure the naysayers, the english majors, the might have beens, and the never was's will all take shots so fire at will boys.... fire at will.

in response to pdhuff#552644: Man, whoda guessed they would be 39th in total D. Oh well, run Foster till his tongue hangs out. Then loft one to Moore or anyone. Punt a few times, kick 2 FGs and lead 6-0 at half. Spring big surprise in the 2nd half by o-line actually opening some holes for Creer. We win. 27-14. Somewhere will be some prospective coach who has paid the $29.95 for PPV and is rubbing his chin. Phil's carried off the field.

Phil's carried off the field.
Don't let Foster or the receivers carry him - they'll drop him.
6. Get some Indians...
Berry scores twice, offense scores two FG's.
UT-20WY-13
Berry gets two pick-6's, and the O matches him with two FG's.
Well, you take a couple of days off and go to a cabin in the mountains and come back to find out that Hammy pulled the trigger and Fulmer is "poof!". Sadly, it needed to be done. I wish CPF would have accepted a lower offer on the buyout, and it wouldn't have come to this.
A "what have you done for me lately" mentality? Well, what has CPF done lately? - Not much...
It is a new day in VOL country, and let's make it a good one!
