in response to Mike_In_Storrs_CT: Nobody is going to touch Uconn for the next several years. Uconn will get their 8th national championship in a few hours and they will be unbeatable for at least the next 3 years in a roll. And yes we are only getting one player next year, however she is a very very good player who is a scoring machine. So everybody just better get used to seeing Uconn win several more championships. By the way everybody better also get used to seeing and hearing about the new face of womens basketball and her name is Brianna Stewart.. NOT GRINER Go Huskies!!!!!!!

Okay Mike, now you have made me mad that I even posted that I hoped you and yours were okay after word of the Newtown tragedy. You take our good thoughts and concerns and then come on our board talking smack.Graves and Russell will both school Stewart for the next several years. There are no guarantees for NCs the next several years. It is going to be a death match between UT, ND, NC, Duke, Stanford and maybe UConn.BTW, since you feel the need to come on this board to keep us informed regarding UConn ( of the ever shrinking, disappearing, Little East), when is Geno's trial for sexual harassment? Yep, that's who I'd want my daughter playing for. Kind of creepy isn't he?

in response to orangecountyvols: Hey Theo, In reviewing some of these posts, I noticed you mentioned you were a former player. Based on that, I can say that I respect you even more so. The comments you have made here on GVX lend themselves to someone who is credible and yes, someone who has played the game. Some of the 'others' we can take with a grain of salt. But as they say, when you and John lg speak, people listen. Keep us up to date with the Vol news, and thanks!

Howdy OCVol,Thanks for the kind words. Let me apologize, however, for leading you to think I am a former player. As a life long BB junkie the mind was willing the body not so much. My vertical leaping ability is easily measured with a ruler. The only sport that I have ever achieved any level of success at is golf. I attribute this to the fact that the ball is stationary and therefore does not require much eye hand coordination. I am sadly my friend, living proof that "want to" is sometimes not enough. LOL. It does, however, really make me appreciate the skill and athleticism that the Lady Vols have. Go Lady Vols, can't wait until next BB season!

If anyone needs to go it is you and your weird obsession with Holly Warlick. We all know who you are, showing up again with a new name. How many times have you been thrown off of this site? You couldn't show your rear on here while the LVs were winning the conference, achieving a 2 seed and CHW was winning coaching awards. Your only shot was if the LVs didn't win the national championship and here you are trying to stir the pot on CHW again. Did you do back flips when they lost because you knew you could come on here again and try and blame Holly. We all know what you are bigot. I repeat - why don't you leave?
in response to madrigal: I absolutely agree with Track and Ahouse and some of you need to go take a good hard look at yourselves in the mirror. Your ugly words and ugly attitudes will come back at you one day. Clayeagle is right on too with his assessment of the team. They most likely were not a Final Four team, but they did a heck of a job getting as far as they did. It's not like being one of the 8 best teams in the country is garbage. Sure, it would have been nice to get farther, but these girls played their hearts out. As for Holly's pre-game talk, isn't that why young women come to Tennessee? One more thing to some of you negative posters--do you ever stop to remember how young these kids really are? And how would you feel if someone talked to or about YOUR daughter the way you talk about them? Bet you'd be getting the ole shotgun ready.

Great post. You hit on the thing that just sends me over the edge. How can adults be so vicious with kids really who are playing their hearts out and are soooo much more disappointed that we are? Don't these people know that Meghan probably feels the weight of the world on her shoulders and now feels she let her team down. Why would you heap further abuse on such a good kid? People can be such jerks when no one knows their names.

Dooley is gone now Flowers. You can go back into whatever cave you live in.Coach Warlick, COY SEC, short list for all national COY awards. You're in the minority here notice. Also, she was an AA as opposed to a bench warmer such as yourself.
Evidently the UT recruits had great showings in the McDees AA game. Mercedes MVP and Reynolds reported as "fast" and had a double/double as well.I put this on another thread but I'm going to repeat here because I'm interested in what some of our friends who are BB savvy think. Can JJ at 6'2" play shooting guard if she develops a face the basket shot? Her defense is going to be amazing and I don't think you can keep her off the court when her skills catch up to her athleticism. Also, can't believe Kelsey Bone declared early for the WNBA. Big loss for A&M, really for the SEC. I liked to watch her. This definitely means our front line will be the class of the SEC and top 2 or 3 in the country.Haven't heard from EMNoD this week.

It's not the team, its the coach. The Vols deserves better and a coach worthy to lead the best women basketball team ever.
The coach? Which coach? You mean the one that coached a team picked to finish fifth in the league to the SEC title? You mean the coach that was chosen SEC COY? You mean the coach that is on every national COY short list? You mean the coach that landed the number 1 recruit in the nation and two others in the top 25? You mean the coach that was an All American at UT and has given her entire adult life to the Lady Vols? You mean the coach that Pat Summit personally groomed and selected as her successor? You mean the coach that brought the best recruiter in the country home? You mean the coach that managed to retain one of the best game planners in the business? That coach?Yea, that coach. I smell cattle.
in response to TrackVol1975: I hate to see people who probably cannot dribble a basketball piling on this young lady. There probably is not a person in the building who wants to succeed in big games more than Simmons, and here is hoping that another year of maturity will be the key. And she did hit four treys in the second half that really helped the team, so it was not as though she didn't show up. As a former UT athlete, I just do not like to see fans making destructive comments about the players, and especially those who hustle and give their all. I'm sure that nerves do play a role and some athletes do focus better in the big contests, but nonetheless this team would not have made it as far as it did without Simmons, and I would hope people don't forget that fact.

+1
These pictures break my heart. I hope all of you sorry sons of female dogs come on here and repeat your comments about a lack of heart, toughness etc. These are great kids and staff who gave it their all. I don't get all of these fair weather fans who think it is okay to just slam them and the staff. I'm guess most of those folks are bitter failures in their own lives.Glad to hear the plan for next year is already starting to form. I know the staff and kids will learn from this loss and be better next year because of it.
Other random thoughts now that my blood pressure is coming down.I am shocked Kelsey Bone is going to the WNBA early. Did not see that coming. I guess as a transfer she has finished her degree. That is a blow to A&M. Is Plaisance (sp) at LSU a junior or senior. Anyway, I think we will have this best front court in the SEC and one of the top 2 or 3 in the country. Now, regarding the backcourt. Can we shoehorn JJ in at the other guard spot? I know 6'2" is tall for that position but when she develops a face to the basket shot and learns to use her physical skills on defense she is going to have to be on the court. Very excited about the potential on this team.
in response to Volinflan: Ms. Russell will have a lot of competition for being the next big star. B. Stewart will be great. What we should be looking forward to is watching Stewart and Russell go at it. Point Guards - she's already on the team and will officially be a freshman next year but we've already seen what she can do. I'm of course talking about Andraya Carter. Barring injury she would have have been the No 1 Point Guard this season. She's fast, she can play defense and she can shoot.

Don't know much about the true freshman coming in but you might be right about Carter. She looked really good early on and now she has had a year to study up and still has four years of eligibility. PG could definitely be competitive next year.
The bottom line for you is that Phil Fulmer got fired and anything associated with him not being at UT is up your rear end. So you come on here to throw Holly under the bus because you hate Dave Hart. You have a very weird obsession about Dooley - get a clue. He is gone. He was not hired by Hart. Phil Fulmer should have been fired (I liked him personally) because he had gotten lazy and kept bad assistant coaches (Randy Sanders). He was not a candidate for AD - again, get over it.Now ask your stupid self this - who did Pat want to succeed her. Clearly it was Holly. That was the plan all along. If Pat wanted Nicki don't you think the call and offer would have been made or are you one of the conspiracy buffs who thinks Dave Hart, to his own career detriment, is an Alabama plant sent here to destroy UT athletics. And regarding Pat being fired, that is ridiculous and Pat herself has said there was a misunderstanding. I spoke with Pat a couple of weeks ago and the very sad truth is she could not have coached this year at all. There was a heartbreaking void there. For you to now be trying to use that sad situation as a tool in your odd personal war against Dave Hart is despicable. Your ridiculous attempt at bitter humor regarding a GPS was a freakin' stupid comment typical of your obsessive, odd posts. The bottom line for you is GET HELP! Fulmer is gone! Dooley is gone! Holly was Pat's pick and she has done (COY SEC) and will do a great job for us.
I knew the idiots would be out in force and I was not disappointed. To all of you criticizing Coach Warlick - I guess she and her staff just got dumb overnight? Or did she get lucky winning the SEC and making it to the Elite Eight and then horrible coaching doomed them against Louisville? Some of the asinine comments on here are obvious trolls trying to sew discontent, some have other axes to grind including the moron from the football thread who's only goal in life is to have Phil Fulmer return as AD at UT (please for the love of God, get a life!)
Cierra Burdick pointed out last week that the Lady Vols lose when they don't follow the game plan and it is clear that is what happened last night. The offense was stagnant and instead of attacking the middle we settled for outside shots that didn't fall. If we had hit our normal percentage on threes we would be celebrating and the number of posts on here would be about half. I am disgusted by posters on here piling on the staff and players. They had a bad game, the opponent is on a hot streak. Did they look rattled, yep they did. None of the kids on this team have been called on to perform in a game of this magnitude before. Experience matters. We lost all five starters from last year. These kids have never felt that pressure before.
Those of you questioning their toughness make me want to throw up. They have worked harder on their basketball skills in their 19 and 20 years than some of you losers have worked on anything in your lives. Your rears will still be in your moth-eaten Lazy Boys when these kids will be out in the world, achieving great things because of their association with Lady Vol basketball.
I am proud of these kids and staff. I know they will learn from this loss and be better for it next year and in the years to come. For those of you who feel better about themselves for having the "bravery" to come on here and anonymously pillage a 20 year old kid, let us know when you accomplish half of what any of these kids have done so far.
Go Lady Vols! Thank you Kamicko and Taber, you brought many great times to true Lady Vol fans. We wish you all the best as you move into the next chapter of your lives. You make us proud.

I was really impressed with the defensive improvement I see in JJ. She did what the coaches asked in using her feet to defend. You could tell she was taking pride in her defense. Great to see. She could be so special for us in many ways. What a freshman class, BG, JJ and Andraya. Wow, the future is bright.

Didn't see those games but I wonder whether the SEC was a little overrated or A&M and USC just had bad games. I know the A&M fans really get on Gary Blair as a bad game coach. Anyway hate to see those losses. So Vandy A&M, USC are all out. Leaving LVs, UK and UGA? Did the dawgs win or lose. Gotta go look that up.
in response to KennyGVolsFan: I am right there with you!!! They struggled to get the ball into her and turned it over several times. However, Williams gets in there and they give her perfect passes every time. Doesn't make any sense to me!!! Bashaara is relentless and works hard down low. She should get rewarded with passes that she is capable of catching!!! It's like they told these girls to stay away from Bashaara because they don't want her to be freshman of the year!! It's games like this that prevent our players from getting the accolades they deserve!! GIVE BASHAARA THE BALL AND MAKE IT A GOOD PASS!!! We have potential to have freshman of the year but when she is under utilized it makes it hard to get votes!!! The sooners have two good players, if we can stop them the game is ours!! It's time to get back to work and find some who can defend their post player and their guard!!!

Potentially the stupidest comment I've read here. Why would you even vaguely think or say any of the staff or kids would intentionally throw bad passes to BG. Did you actually watch the game? Did you see the sagging defense on her? Their game plan was obviously to deny BG the ball and make someone else, Kamiko for example, beat them. Ridiculous.
in response to kazoo: You are right about the half-court offense--I've been complaining about it for years. Too much standing around--we saw it in the first half. This I see constantly from UT and I don't understand it--players holding the ball and players standing still on offense, and then Simmons or Williams goes one on one. That's simply not a smart way to play offense. That is one reason UT has slipped, and we're not as good defensively as we were in our heyday, either--not nearly as good. Our guards are mediocre defenders, as I fear we will see fairly soon.

Our guards hounded a great three point team in to shooting 13% from three point range. Exactly how much better were you hoping for. Jeez, what would some of you be saying if we had lost? We played a very good defensive game. JJ has made big improvements and I didn't see Meighan getting lost on defense at all. Kamicko was great, as always, on defense and I didn't see Ariel get scraped off or left behind. It was a great defensive effort. Hopefully they will do this for the rest of the tourney.

I think she is a classy, bright coach. I just feel like UT's offense has not kept pace with the other elite programs and we need to improve that and we haven't seemed to have the answer in 4-5 years now. Ok i'm done. LOL

I believe if you look at the national rankings UT is very high in PPG. You may not like the offense but we typically put up a lot of points which is the purpose.
in response to UTFAN1993: I think most that have commented so far are saying it's not the final score or that they are moving on. they are talking about how the TOTAL game was played AND that if they expect to represent the nation and move to the elite 8, then they will have to play better than tonight. From here on the comp only gets better and better. They didn't play a team tonight that is in any way a good defensive team. Do you really think that Creighton is even in the same class as the remaining teams? If you do name one and then give your reasons why. thanks

There is a definite odor surrounding this poster. Eau de troll? Maybe not. I'll need to see further posts but encouraging BG to transfer is a little suspect.
I think at the time of the loss to Mizzou we discussed the loss as a potential good thing. I think this next game may prove that to be true. I do not expect lax defense. Not predicting a victory but the LVs should be going into this one with their eyes wide open.

The other thing to remember about Stokes is that age wise he was just a Freshman this year. He is a big, big kid but he is probably only 19 right now. Some maturity and more experience would make a better long term trajectory for him.
in response to johnlg00: According to Mickey Dearstone, the LVs got jobbed on a few occasions themselves. He described at least two plays right in front of him where an ORU player grabbed an LV's arm with no call and even got a call against the LVs on one of them. Maybe the whole game was just another example of the generally miserable officiating that seems to plague women's basketball.

Yea, BG almost lost an arm trying to rebound a ball. I don't know why the refs would think she was intentionally trying to grab a rebound with one hand - kinda gotta wonder where the other arm is.

I saw the little "not in my house wag" too. But I thought the best moment was when Izzy hit BG under the basket for a lay up. They both looked really excited to have the assist and score big to big. This team just plays better when Izzy is in even if she is not scoring a lot. Got to watch her though. I think I was glad we won but really happy we didn't have any injuries. Gun shy.
If I had seen BG and Izzy both on the ground and not moving I would have said more than "You've got to be kidding". Golf language would have been required.Go LVs will be watching today/tomorrow/whenever?

Yep, emnod, when I think of you I think trollll city. LOL. How is your kiddos knee coming along? Did she get on the court this year? Hope it hasn't impacted her recruitment too much. UT has signed several kids who had knee injuries and didn't play their senior year and it worked out great. I think one of this year's recruits is rehabbing a knee.
Great honor! Congratulations Mercedes, student, athlete, citizen, this is a Lady Vol.The future is bright my friends.

in response to emailnodata: Ya know....last year when Pat was disengaging, Holly was interim, and all those seniors were getting ready to finish up, I didn't post, didn't follow much. My own kid was playing somewhere else, but also it was time for a break. It has the feel to me as if the LV's are a new team, with a new direction. This isn't disrespectful of Pat. She was unique, no one will step in and be her. Same will hold true when Geno, Tara, or McGraw step down. Just curious if anyone else felt that, too, as if last year was the "break" to put some distance on one regime and move to the next. Or, do you feel more like it's the "continuation of Pat".

Just curious if anyone else felt that, too, as if last year was the "break" to put some distance on one regime and move to the next.
Or, do you feel more like it's the "continuation of Pat".
Howdy emnod,Yes, it seems different to me. There is a lightness this year. I felt like the weight of expectations magnified by Pat's illness almost drowned last years team. They unfortunately put so much pressure on themselves the joy seemed missing. Not to say it was miserable at all and I'm sure there were all sorts of great memories for the kids. SEC tourn etc.Perhaps it is the change in coaching, perhaps the youth of the team, perhaps a significantly different staff but I feel refreshed and optimistic about the team. And the thing that has brought me the most fun is, as noted earlier, the joy on the kid's faces. It looks like a game, a tough but fun endeavor for this group. The way it is supposed to be.

Dennis, you've done well, big man.
Agreed. It made me smile just seeing how happy Izzy, BG, etc. were. Reminded me they are just a few years removed from being little girls. Well okay, probably really tall little girls. So glad they were all so happy. Saw an interview with JP who talked about where she was last year and where she is now. She looked like she was dreaming. Nia talked about this is why you come to UT. So glad she feels that way. I'd love to see her get some more PT in the tournament. I do think there is a lot there.
in response to KennyGVolsFan: TBH, If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck! Just saying!! Would I have this same standpoint if she played for UT? probably not.... Luckily for everyone, this is her last championship!! Baylor will be lucky to be in the top 10 next year, of course they have Sims but I doubt they will. Tennessee will RISE!!!

I agree Baylor will not be the prohibitive NC favorite they are this year but Kim Mc. is a really good coach and they have a good recruiting class coming in. I think they got a pretty good kid from West Tennessee? But enough of that.Agree, size and talent should take care of ORU (although I would have said that about UTC) need to be vawycarfwul about those waskally wabbits from Syracuse. Do not ask me where that came from. I just had a cupcake and I think the sugar set in.
Got to take it one game at a time. We lost to Mizzou. We could lose to any of the fist/second round teams. Great news to maybe have Izzy back. But since everyone is talking Baylor. Did anyone think Chamique Holdsclaw and Kelly Jolly would not win the title their senior years after winning the previous two? Probably not too many. Don't count us out.Go Lady Vols, so proud of all the team and staff has accomplished this year.BTW, for all of you imbeciles who feel the need to take shots at BG. Grow the h*ll up. Jeez, doesn't the state of TN have enough image problems?

Mike, I'd take Bruce back in a heartbeat. NCAA baggage and all.
Zero question.
Howdy enod. I love Bruce, my family has loved and followed him since before he was at UT. But, he lied to the NCAA. He lied to his bosses at UT. You can not have someone in your organization that you know is missing an ethics gene. It tells everyone else, including the kids, that if you are good, lying will be tolerated. I understand life is not black and white and there is gray. But to me, it is a no brainer regarding Bruce, what a real shame.
in response to volthrunthru#658770: Glowing report. UT Football needs good news. That point having been made...just what is the idea of jumping the sports news story to somebody's personal blog, away from the Newspaper itself. We are trying to read the newspaper, not give hits to make the blog seem bigger to those internet measurement groups who register traffic online. And the blog is a laugh, as far as reporting is concerned: Never saw a reporter, in print, before who continuously referred to a coach by his first name. Glad to see that any pretense of objective reporting is out the window, because now UT can save on P.R. managers, since the only home-market paper with daily coverage of UT Football has its principal football reporter on a first-name, chummy basis with the ole coacheyroo. If you look back at the Cincinnati "Enquirer," a paper nationally respected; you will find that they did it the right way, calling him by last name and title, etc., or just last name. Kissing up probably gets a lot of stories...but that is usually only a temptation in competitive situations. And there is no other daily paper involved anymore. And it is only temptation for reporters who deserve the name "reporters." Betcha no other reporter anywhere else in the Knoxville paper---or even in the small town weeklies anywhere in East Tennessee is calling an $18MILLION DOLLAR GUARANTEED COMPENSATION PUBLIC OFFICIAL by his or her first name. Maybe the governor can get that deal, or the mayor; or the next public offical caught up in a sex scandal or bribery probe. Not saying Jones is anything but the real deal, but can the reporters AT LEAST act like he and they are not sucking from the same bottle. (Of course if they are, there is not much left for the ole reporter; just ask the Athletics director about finances...but then maybe the reporter and A.D. are not as cozy...) No wonder the paper is struggling. But if this works, maybe NBC can have its reporters sign off from the White House with something like: I'm Evan's Eleven, chwein' the fat with Barrack, over here at the large white building...not sure how they named it that, but...what the hey...

Why do you live in Chatt? For the love of God put some wheels on that trailer and move back to gump land. I hear they're having a sale on dentures at the B'ham Walmart. You should check it out.Understand the tree killer is pleading mental defect. That won't fly. If that gets you out of serving time in Gump Land the jails will be empty. Still waiting for the trial of roll tide sexual assault guy.
in response to Hound_Dog69: CBJ is bringing them in!! As for Vandy, when franklin gets them to their first Sec championship and wins and gets them to their first NC game and wins or beats one of the top sec teams once, then he will have proven something, until then he is nothing but another coach of a team who has never won any kind of championship in the history of their pathetic football program. If CBJ was black he would be getting more media attention than franklin, and if franklin was white nobody would be talking about his two average seasons.

The next time you get stopped for "driving while white" let us know. Until that time just shut up. Idiot.
We need the rest and I totally agree with the breather for the Freshman. The length of the season is a drag physically and mentally for the new kids. Would love to have Izzy but no need to push it.Unbelievable that Pat's book will be #1 on NYT list next week. I think I'll file that bit away for the various and asundry tools who like to get on here and dismiss women's BB. Going to see Pat here tomorrow in Nashville at Parnassus book signing. Can't wait.

I guess I should be glad you didn't offer to fight me, or sue me, or better yet, sic some hired thugs on me to "put me in my place". After all, in your world "might makes right"...right? Most normal people would by now have some inkling that they might have gone too far and either graciously back off or at least "stop digging". But, no, if you think it or say it, it is just the "law and the prophets", no matter how inane, tactless, or tasteless.

Not a chance this clown has money. People with money don't talk about it. Unless you are Donald Trump whose AHoleness knows no bounds.
in response to oldster: I started to say that Izzy's injury had nothing to do with Massengale being unable to guard her own shadow, but it might. When someone goes past the statue that is Massengale and Izzy is back there to block the shot, it does help significantly. So, even though I have to give you that, I would not compare her to Bone or Mathias. She is nothing like the offensive threat those two are. Additionally, even though Izzy could have picked up some of those many, many missed shots by Simmons, Burdick and Williams, it is doubtful that she could have made enough put backs to make a difference (I admit it would not have taken much, though. Most importantly, she would have been unable to do anything about the incredibly sloppy, careless, and stupid ball handling and passing. I think that they went one on one so much becaue Holly was afraid to have them pass the ball.

Wow. You do know we are a really good, really young, really short bench team right. If watching them play causes you this much angst I'm not sure it is worth it for you.Not saying their perfect at all. Each of the players will have assignments for the summer. Their weaknesses will be pointed out in stark detail no doubt. But other than having them drawn and quartered I'm not sure what would make you happy.

One of the best books I ever read. Discussing books should also help keep the gator trolls away.
in response to FanNotSheep: The money drops off after the lottery picks and again at about the #20 pick. If a player doesn't make first round chances are he will be learning his way around Europe or toiling away in D-League. Another year of college is best for anyone not projected top 15, based on many years of paying attention.

I know all these guys see their name in NBA lights but no one can take a college degree from you. Get an insurance policy and get the degree. There is plenty of time to be a grown up.
