I can see the APR rate slowly dropping off from 2008-2012. Something is wrong with this picture and I hope they fix it and fix it SOON! I think some fans see college athletes as just players on the field and forget about the academics that are behind the scenes. Its easy to forget about it. Now that I have read this I now realize that academics comes first. It is a University after all haha and a DANG good one! GBO

Butch Jones can't keep fighting to win, thats up to the players and how bad they want it. Butch can only motivate, teach and coach his butt off to be creative enough to win. Im a realistic person and I honestly don't see a win. On the other hand, Oregon don't play much in the SEC so it should be interesting at least. It can't be any worse than the last time these two teams met. Creativity and a lot of determination will help the Vols. Im sure coach Jones will have a few tricks in his game plan to try and throw off the ducks. GBO!

I bet he wishes he would have stayed one more year and finished. Oh well, he has talent but it will be some time before he gets his time to shine. I guess he thought he needed to jump ship early because he was worried about where UT was headed. He also knew that he would be playing without his best receivers too. Now that Butch Jones is there, things are looking up. Not to say he isn't a Vol but I think If he had a little more commitment to UT he would have stayed but he's just a kid and the thought of big $$$ clouded his judgement a bit. He will do just fine in the NFL, just give him time. GBO

Yes! I agree. Let the past go....... but it wasn't all bad. Just look at it this way, forget the bad but remember the good. Just watch this video and Let's look at what did go right in 2012 and leave the bad behind us! GBO

Your right, he can! He has NFL passing speed. That has already been proven by experts.
I was there at the spring game Saturday and I wasn't to impressed with some things. I hope these freshmen can get in gear to help the Vols to a winning season. Im worried but also excited!
What are you blabbering about tovolny? ....... Don't be a troll........... (o_0) haha
I live in Huntsville Ala-bummer. Im leaving out at 5:30 A.M. can't wait! GBO
I always find it hard to judge how well a team is progressing as a whole when you have all UT players playing against each other. I know it's the only way for them to practice but is it bad or good if the offense wins one week and the defense the next? I think if the score was low and the scrimmage was close, then it would seem as if both sides were doing good equally. Like a score of 14-16 or 7-10. GBO
I think what Walt means is, "Fine as in, 6-6" but even that would be great for UT at this point. It sounds bad. "the string of dropped passes and fumbled transitions, or seen the growing injury list, or noticed the absence of a top running back." ...... wow.... I know it sounds bad but It can't be any worse than last year. after one good season will come a 2nd great season. This recruiting class seems like a win. I wonder about Jabo Lee. I haven't heard anything about him yet. I bet he could step up some. Reminds me of CP! GBO
I agree but in a way Im also glad he's gone. I don't like Bama ties in UT. A bunch of Bama moles is what they are hahaha Even Dave Heart..... but he hasn't let me down yet. hehehe I wish JR luck in all his future jobs. Dooley as well. BGO!
I am SUPER excited to see Jabo Lee in action! He reminds me of CP. Finally! I have been waiting for this news to come out. Butch said it was the best so far and thats exactly what I've been waiting for him to say!! Good Job Butcher! GBO
For some reason.... Im really excited about MarQuez North! He seems like a fine upstanding guy who has the mind set to be great and the talent to perform great too! He actually wants to plat at UT and thats a plus. We need kids like him who can replace WR's like Patterson and Hunter. Although Hunter did struggle a little bit last year he was still a good all around player. I wish everyone good luck in fighting for starting positions and for everyone to stay healthy. Hey Butch Jones! So far your doing good (considering what he walked into) keep it up BUD! GBO
Note: I also noticed that USC was loosing a lot of good recruits. I feel bad for them in some way but the other side of me is laughing hahaha Mostly at the coach and the hiring staff and not the team. Their not a bad team at all. Take it from us USC, Ol lane Kiffin and his NCAA sanctions didn't help much did it? I just find it a bit amusing to see him leave us for them and for them to think he was the next BIG THING if you will. Good luck to USC this year, your gonna need it.
in response to VFL_Troll_Patrol: I feel really bad for the Dallas Cowboys. They already had enough troubles this season, now they got Dooley....? Hopefully they will fire him after his first year and not wait for three. Dooley did one thing right at UT and that was improve the offense. He made a mistake by hiring Sal who crapped up our defense. All that being said, considering that Dooley only did a "Few" things right, he is still a terrible coach at any position. Sorry Cowboys :( Im looking at a brighter future for UT! "A new leader" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4xteY... *Im always watching*

I never hated Dooley as a person. He is a great family man and he is smart. But he is NOT good at coaching. Can you blame me or other UT fans for expressing their dislike for him. Just look at where we got with him. He improved the offense but made to many mistakes, like hiring Sal. His mistakes out weigh the good things he did. Good luck Dooley.

Im only telling the truth...... As a UT fan, It's hard to say good things about his coaching ability. But when he's not a coach its a different story.Dooley is a nice guy. Very smart man but he is a terrible coach. Im not a hater, I liked Dooley for what he did on offense but he was still not good enough to get the job fully done. Yes, good luck to him. He did his best but his best wasn't good enough for head coach. It's hard not to point out his shortcomings as UT's head coach. Just look where we got with him. Can you blame a few UT fans for expressing their dislike for him? Im sorry but thats just how I feel. He's a good family man but just not good at being a coach.
I love his attitude as well! Positive for the future! We need all we can get now that Hunter and CP are gone. GBO!

in response to bleuvol: Twitter is totally the way to go with recruiting these young men. They constantly have their phones in their hands, and it gives them a sense of connection and that their world matters to the rest of the world--within seconds. If a coach seems relatable and willing to communicate 'in their language,' an automatic connection is made. I personally don't use it, but just recently found out that students are blowin it up!

I don't see how this even matters. It would be kind of silly to have someone other than the actual coach doing the "tweeting" but either way, whats the point? Unless it helps recruiting in some way, I don't think Twitter should be used at all. Im not against It but I don't care either. GBO

in response to TNVol71: Unfortunately, 2013 is shaping up to be another 2011. Hope CBJ can get buy-in early and we can be ready for the season better than we were in 2011. It is still a long way back to the top.

Hice AC/DC reference! IT"S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP IF YOU WANNA WIN! That song goes for everything In life that anyone sets out to accomplish!
Well, I don't see this as much of a big deal as long as others stay. I say that because as happy for Hunter as I am, I still wasn't impressed by him this season (2012). He had so many dropped passes and ect. I think he is being smart by going into the NFL this year. Im happy for the guy, but I also have a feeling that he was worried that if he didn't leave now, he may not get another shot because of his "not so great but ok" season. Call me crazy I guess but I still feel like its good he is gone and now other players can step up in his place and show what they can do. Bottom line is, I don't see this as being a hurt on UT's 2013 season as long as Bray, Patterson and others stay one more year. GBO
I agree. I wouldn't worry about too much. I have a big feeling that we will have a good recruiting class for next year and Im sure defense will be MUCH better since they are changing back to the 4-3. Our D would have been a lot better if Dooley hadn't hired Sal. Sal changed what the players already knew!? That was stupid! But, im excited about the future! GBO!

Im not to sure about Dave Hart either but he is our AD, so I must trust him. I say this because I just don't like Bama ties. We need UT guys who love UT. Like Manning coming back to be QB couch or something hehe that be sweet!
I won't be happy of Jones or Hart until I see a winning season and a Bowl game. Until then.....

I kind of thought about that too. Maybe Manning was trying to keep him away. But still, Butch Jones should have never told that story cause it made Manning look bad. And manning should have not said anything to Jones. Oh well.... I hope he wins here at UT. With the level of talent we have, Im sure he can be a winner.
We have COACH JONES!!!!! Next hire for assistant coach will be Radio..... hahaha I love the movie "Radio" Now we have Coach JONES!!! Hey coach Jones! hahaha Well, If he can win in several other programs, he can win here at UT. Especially with the level of talent we have! Go Vols!
( Wait...... Why would Payton Manning try and persuade Jones to go the University of Colorado??????? What the Heck Manning!!! Unless it was a joke. Jones never should have told that story lol ... WTF! I hope it was a joke... a badly presented joke I hope!

Rehire Derek Dooley.... Duuuuuh its that simple. haha! Who ever the coach is, I hope he can understand the basics and the strategy and so on.... Dooley is and was a joke. I gave him 3 chances and 3 years, then I started disliking him after some of the wasted time outs, bad decisions, and just plain common sense mistakes. WHY TAKE OUT BRAY???? what a joke..... I wish him the best of luck. Besides, he will be sitting comfortable with that check every week. ha! The mistake Dooley made was letting Sal bring in the 3-4 D in the first year!!! Why? Wait and do that next year because this year we had guys who already knew the 4-3 and was full of talent.
in response to Tennfan4075: Was the lack of speed not recognized before and during the implementation of this defence or was this not a known factor until it didn't work? I would have thought the the correct approach is to assess the player's abilities and then put together the plan that fits the parts not putting a square peg in a round hole.

Your right but also they should have waited on introducing the 3-4 this year. Dooley needs to work more on Defense and find out a way to make this first year 3-4 D work long enough to finnish out the season. The problem was Dooley letting Sal incorporate the 3-4 this year. It should have been put off until next season. These players already had a good idea of the first scheme and I think our D would have been much better If they had used it throughout this season. I think a good strategy for Dooley and Sal would be to revert back to the old scheme for the next 3 games.

Chaney needs to go. Not Sal. Sal is the best thing for tennessee right now. but he can't just call Tinker bell and have her wave a magic wand to give us 5 star players with 2 years of 3-4 Defense experience. It takes at least 2 years to develop a 3-4 with players who have never run it. Plus Sal will be a HUGE recruiting boost for UT. I hope they play good enough the rest of the season to give dooley a winning season. They can't afford to fire him and have UT starting ALL OVER again. Besides If he goes, half of the staff will probably go as well, Including Sal. I could be wrong but I Know It wouldn't help. but im afraid if UT doesn't have a winning season.... he's gone. GBO!
In Tennessee, we have forgotten many losses but we have never forgotten a win. We have fallen to some but have risen over many. Our loyalty is strong but our fight is stronger. We are the underdogs. Its what separates us from the rest and pushes us to beat the best. In Tennessee, we live for the moment. Some moments break our hearts, while others are written in history. The players give their all for Tennessee but our traditions and loyalty define who we are as fans. We never give up and we never back down. We are strong, proud and dedicated to what we do. We call to arms without hesitation. The seven maxims will always guide us through the pressure and lead us to victory. Soon we will have a chance to overcome the odds. When that time comes, we will be ready. Some might try to demoralize us as fans. Some might state their own judgements of who we are but only we can make that final call. Who are we? We, ..... are the Tennessee Volunteers.
"Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain love for one another."- Erma Brombeck
