in response to springtx_vol: Okay, if you could trade beating Florida and not making the NCAA for losing to Florida and making it to the Elite 8 three years in a row, which would you pick? If you could pick an NCAA championship one year and not making the tournament the next versus missing the tournament 2 years in a row, which would you choose? So what is my point? We don't get enough good players to regularly make a deep run into the tournament. I understand completely the trouble with recruiting rankings and number of stars. Not every All-American in college was a HS All-American. But just like in football, the rule is the better your players are in high school, the better they will be in college. Yes, coaching means something. Yes, male players continue to get bigger/taller in college (see David Robinson). But there is a reason that Duke, North Carolina, Indiana, Syracuse, Louisville, Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan St, Ohio St, and similar schools regularly make runs deep into March/April. Yes, good coaches, but you can't argue that they also get the top players.

This is what's called seeing the big picture folks.+1
The man has taken two different programs to the CWS. You really think he can turn a whole baseball team around in 2 years? Especially in this conference when he was left with a cupboard completely bare? I played college baseball, and I'll tell you this, freshmen and sophomores ain't beating seasoned vets very often. Give him time. The man is the best coach we have had in a long, long time.
in response to Basketvol: I think your first sentence is the most closed-minded thing I've read on this site. Congratulations. And by the way, according to your criteria, my opinion DOES count. I know this is a sports site, but I couldn't resist. Back to basketball. What are the chances Vandy finishes off Ole Miss, and then loses to Florida, nudging Tennessee back in? Also, need Maryland to lose. Too bad it had to come down to this. Like someone said earlier, one more basket against Georgetown and we're not even having this conversation. One more win against anyone and I think they would have been in without any question. I'm expecting better things next year, and hoping for better this year!

Thank you for clarifying that everything you say from now on is invalid. Let me ask you a question..If the government raises taxes on tobacco to "deter" smoking, then do they raise taxes on income to deter working?
So when we pick up big time recruits in March, it's AWESOME!!!....But when Dooley failed to do so in his tenure, then the sheeple would say, "it's only march...longggggggggg way til signing day." Funny how the flavor of the week has changed.
in response to tnoutlaw2001#228008: I'm willing to gamble more 3 star athletes go to the pro's over time than 5 stars. Every year you hear about dozens of 5 stars who never are heard from again once college ball starts. Don't be over dramatic on someone rating a high school kid.

Not really much of a gamble there since there are hundreds of 3* players ever year and only a handful of 5*s.
in response to ashvol7: He needs to get away from UT and stay away. He is responsable for this whole mess and needs to leave. I haven't heard of any school and I mean any, wanting to hire him. He had his chance and did not take care of business as he should have. The school needs to send Cheeks and Hart with Fulmer. Get some people who has the schools best interest at heart.

Dooley did a great job of keeping former Vols away. How did that work out?
You people act like you would rather be 5-7 and sitting at home than to lose in the Sugar Bowl. Sheesh!
in response to Navaloranges: Thanks for "letting" us read the Chat Times piece. It was a good read. On the same note, putting an interview with UT's new coach on the pay site is as insulting, and as belittling to VOL FANS as you can get. This is the KNOXVILLE PAPER'S VOLUNTEER website, it is a freaking slap in the face to make UT FANS pay to read an interview with THEIR new coach. PATHETIC!

That wasn't a compliment. It's pathetic.
Two 4* recruits to Cincy in the last 3 years. Woohoo
Butch has just been announced as new head coach. I'm sure THIS is the hire that will convince Bray and company to stay one more year....
PAT FITZGERALD
If not Gruden, I still say Pat Fitzgerald.
Akron has won 1 game this year.
Pat Fitzgerald.
I say go after Pat Fitzgerald from Northwestern.

You do realize that holding someone to 13 points in a half isn't great right? That's on pace to give up 26 to.....VANDY.

This isn't even factual. Bama and A&M both scored 38 against Miss St. Florida scored 44 against USCe. Stop making things up.

Dooley=losing record.
End of story.
in response to vq4nfo: Bobby Petrino-Available and looking! Great coach that could bring in the recruits needed to compete in the SEC. Latest Rival class of 2013 has UT ranked again with the likes of Vandy and Missouri. Fla,Ala,Auburn,SC,Ga all have Top rankings again. Petrinio had to be fired by Ark athletic director because of the other scandals in Football programs at that time. But what was his crime? Affair with a pretty blonde? I would excuse that for a winning program.

Petrino does not recruit well. At all.
I'm normally a Dooley doubter, but I see us winning this game handily. For gosh sakes, it's Miss State, folks.
LA Tech cracked the top 25 this week. Talk about addition by subtraction.

Also ironic you berate Dooley supporters for blaming Fulmer from 4 years ago for our troubles today, but are quick to blame something from 4 years ago to fit your political agenda. And, yes he has extended the Bush tax cuts, and he has kept the war going on. If you really think anyone could have prevented 9/11, then you have way more issues than I imagined.
I find it very ironic that you condemn those on this board for basing their love of Dooley on hope and non-statistical evidence, yet you glorify our president for running on it.
I sure wish all those helpful bills you speak of would have been passed in his first two years, when he had control of both.

in response to Richmonds_Wannabe_Brother: There you go. Try to argue the agenda, since you can argue the intelligence. Yes, it's an agenda you've had since the day Dooley was hired, or maybe since the day Fulmer was fired. Either way, you have cared more about the team losing so there'll be a coaching change than anything else. You're like the Republican congress -- They spent the entire time since they won the majority with the primary goal of getting Obama out of the White House, no matter what negative effects they had on the country -- block everything he tries to do, just to make him look bad. If you could do the same for Dooley, you would jump at the chance.

I'm pretty sure it was you guys that were saying UF was "overrated" and calling their coach "Muschump" before we played them. Saying we would win by at least 14.
in response to ULTIMATEVOLUNTEER: Yes that's a good plan because lots of great coaches would jump at the chance to go coach a school that keeps firing coaches! No pressure there.

Yea, firing 2 coaches in the past 20 years would be unheard of.
LA Tech is 3-0 this year, and has the longest road winning streak in their program (7 games) since 1970. Looks like they got rid of their baggage.
I can't understand why it would be bad for the program if we fired Dooley now. The new coach could have longer to recruit if he was hired sooner than later. Didn't we give Dooley a pass for years since he has been "salvaging" Kiffin's class for 3 years?

Go and read all of my posts. I have hated Dooley since day 1.
With Terry Bowden, Chuck Amato, and Terrel Buckley on Akron's sideline, I actually think they do have a better staff than we do.
in response to arkansasvol1975: Can't blame Dooley? What? $2 million a year plus bonus for this? You sir are a idiot. The reason this idiot has a new coaching staff is because the old ones knew he was fixing to be fired. Excuses, excuses is all we hear. ALL this falls back on Dooley. The team looks like they gave up on the coaching staff.

Can't blame Dooley on this one. New coaching staff, who are far and away better than the previous coaches, and Fulmer/Kiffin left him a mess about a decade ago.

Oust them like candy? Fulmer was here for a very long time. Kiffin left on his own accord. Who exactly have we ousted like candy? People do have bad games. LSU is having one right now. Dooley has had a career full of bad games. Spurrier has won more SEC games at USC than Dooley has won total games as a head coach.
