vol4gzuz asks:
"Do we play 12 games or just one gents?"

Usually we play about two. Trouble is, there are 12 on the schedule."

LMAO!!!!! How true this statement is. Very funny.

On LSU courting commitment Allen

I never will forget last year when I posted that "I don't know how good UT will be this year." Minutes later, someone PM'ed me claiming to be Tyrelle Pryor and said he was dropping UT from his list because he "thought that I was overly negative." I tried to PM him later in the year and ask if he saw the Florida or Bama games? I urged him to buy our remaining PPV games or tune in on Lincoln Financial if he could get up that early. No response. I feel bad now for my terrible attitude.

Everyone has forgot to place blame on Colquit, he was selfish only thinking about himself and not the team. If he had been punting, I don't think the kick would have been blocked. That was 7 points we just gave them. I agree with what someone stated that we needed a special team's coach. I have always said they need a kicking and special team coach other than Fulmer. By the way Georgia didn't impress me any either, I don't think they are as good as people say they are. After we beat them last year, they beat 6 teams that had combine loses of 31 games, and again tell me they played someone last year and they deserve to be number one starting this year. We will see what kind of team they have when they go to Ariz State."

Me and Colquitt were drinking a few beers together while watching the game on TV. He said that EXACT same thing. Good observation.

On Vols have urgency to correct mistakes

sjt:

Our roster talent is NOT very good overall and I am sorry you are failing to see that when it's apparent to so many others. It matters little when we are recruiting in the Top 25 when we're still ranked 6-7th in the SEC consistently. We have about as much talent right now as South Carolina and Alabama do. But in 1-2 year's Alabama will be superior to us in roster talent as well. Not to mention that other teams have historically done a much better job at developing their players.

As for NFL draft picks, ours have dropped off considerably the past several years. I'll give you a quick and dirty stat. The 1999 Vols starting lineup had 20 starters of 24 (counting both kickers) that played in the NFL. 11 of thse 20 were drafted in the first three rounds. I'd be shocked if the 2008 Vols had more than 10 starters (of 24) that did the same. There is not a sure-fire 1st round draft pick on the field for the Vols right now outside of Eric Berry. That is a HUGE dropoff in talent. Not to mention that if you looked at what Georgia, Florida, and LSU are putting on the field I would say their numbers would be much closer to 18-20 future NFLer's and many of them are 1st-3rd rounders. So, yes, our talent level has definitely deteriorated.

Couple less talent with this coaching staff and the results will be out there for the whole world to see.

This team won't be ranked AGAIN the rest of the year. Florida will kill Tennessee. I don't care if we play out in the middle of a corn field in Iowa. If this Vol team played Florida 10 times, we would lose all 10 times. Some of you are still failing to see how wide the gulf is between two programs that used to be near equal a few years ago. We'll lose at Auburn, Georgia, and to Alabama. And that may not be the end of it.

Our talent level is a fraction of what it used to be. The SEC's talent level has risen. I tried to post this here many times this offseason, only to be told that the Vols would go 10-2 or 11-0 on the year, I was overly negative, etc. The coaching blunders come as no surprise. We've been getting outcoached for years. But in times past, we had the talent level to mask or overcome it. We no longer do.

Clawson is not the answer and neither is Crompton. Clawson was a weak hire who was not head and shoulders above everyone else (his peers) in Division 1-AA. Crompton looked like Joey Mathews Part II. Except worse. I thought the Vols would go 8-4 on the year before the season. Having seen the rest of the SEC now, UT will be very fortunate to win 6 games.

On Strange: UT 0-3 in SEC by mid-October?

What we need to do to fix this:

1) Draw up a new contract for 7 more years this morning for Fulmer, keeping him here through 2025. Pay him $5MM per year or whatever it takes. Just remember - nobody could do as well as he could at Tennessee.

2) Get Clawson under contract and raise his pay so that nobody will come in and hire him out from under us after last night. He's the next head coach, starting in 2026 after Fulmer's contract runs out.

3) Expand the Circle of Five to 10,20, or 30 players. And we have to find a replacement for Crompton, who is certainly out of the Circle of Five after last night's performance.

4) Lock up Chavis in a lifetime contract. Remember, he's had 98 offers to take NFL jobs, but he ALWAYS ends up right back at Square One. This guy is big-time and we can't afford to let him get away.

On UT report card for UCLA

Chavis was seen at the Democratic National Convention last night per a poster on a Vol message board. Hard to believe his mind is not 100% on the Vols defense right now.

On Strange: UT's sure of defense this trip

SemperVol - You have zero clue as to what you speak.

Gerald Williams is as dumb as a box of rocks to put it bluntly. If he didn't play football, he would have no chance of ever seeing the inside of a classroom in Knoxville. He has no business being given chance after chance after chance to enroll at UT. And as a matter of fact, the reason that he is being held out now is because he failed to apply for Fall 2008 admission to UT.

If anyone here ever has an average, non-football playing child that, academically, is not cut out for entrance into UT - I hope you come to their aid as you have Williams'.

What a hypocritical bunch this is.

The real irony here is that Rawls is a kid who wanted it to work out academically and athletically. It didn't, so he left. And now he's Benedict Arnold, dumb, fat, can't cut it, etc. according to the Einsteins over here.

Meanwhile, Gerald Williams couldn't fill in the blank to make this a word: d_g. After 4 years, he still is not fully eligible to play football and there is no doubt that he is not at UT to earn a degree.

But the whole bunch of you would be at UT with drinking straws right now, slurping up Williams' bathwater if that's what it took to get him eligible for the UCLA game.
