Written on Mike Strange: This time, it's not Year Zero at Tennessee:

in response to murrayvol:

"If you don't go out and play, they don't eat."

Well, they would still eat but might not be able to keep it down.

Given the MILLIONS in buyouts to all the coaches who've been let go, I don't think anyone in the UTAD ever hasn't had enough to eat. Dooley got what, about $8 million for three years of losing? boo hoo

Written on Mike Strange: This time, it's not Year Zero at Tennessee:

in response to JimmyJoe:

I don't think arguably... I think by default.

Here here!

Written on Salaries in Tennessee athletic department rise 9.1 percent over a year ago:

Big increases for a department in financial binds.

Written on Dave Hart, J.J. Clark want to see Tennessee get back on track:

The UT Athletic Department seems to just use the same talking points for each program; "making progress," "improve," "become," "work," "try," blah, blah, blah. The only phrase you never hear is, "we won."

Written on David Climer: UT's bad APR shows deeper troubles:

in response to JBVols1698:

(This comment was removed by the site staff.)

Beyond the care UT should demonstrate for students' educations, a lot of people will care about APR if it keeps us out of a bowl, should we ever have a record again that gets us in one.

I agree. When Cheeky gave Hamilton $1.2 million for quitting/getting fired, I realized something was terribly wrong at UT.

Written on Tennessee at Oregon to kickoff at 3:30 p.m.:

in response to iowavol:

Got my flights and hotel booked for the game. Still need to find a B&B or other accommodation for Willamette wine country. Go Vols - roast the duck.

Stay in McMinnville. Great little town and good places to eat.

Written on Loss to Arkansas puts Vols at mercy of rival in order to reach SEC tournament :

Hammy's $1.2 million parting gift sure just keeps paying off.

Written on Vols can't touch Hogs, lose 11-1:

Can we just have ONE mens sport that doesn't have everyone saying, "Just have patience folks; it will take a few years" as the season description?

Written on Tennessee baseball gets pounded again; Dave Serrano apologizes:

I know, I know, we just have to wait a few more years until this is turned around, just like the football team has done...well, like the basketball team has...well, like the track and field...well, it's odd how the boys at UTAD never had to wait nearly as long to get their millions paid to them.

Written on Offseason could be time to evaluate Cuonzo Martin's contract:

So, we more than quadruple the salary of a guy who has never been to the NCAA tournament, and in his first two years with us does no better....and goes one and done in the four tournaments he has been to since he got here...and he wants a raise that's guaranteed longer. Wow.

Written on Alabama hires Bill Battle as athletic director:

in response to stevefrommemphis:

Well, it remains to be seen. We're just in year 4 of the Kiffin recovery. It took about 8 years to recover from Bill Battle.

Well, in all honestly Johnny Majors and "recovery" were never a good match to begin with.

Written on Tennessee Vols again vow to improve:

What bothers me is their expectation that if a few teams they're questioning being in the tournament weren't, they would be. I think there are other teams that didn't make the tournament (Alabama, Kentucky, Virginia, etc.) that would be ahead of us anyway. We had another bad season in yet another men's sport and got what we deserved. What makes me tilt my head sideways is when UT loses to Austin Peay, Mercer, and goes can't win more than one game in any tournament.

Written on Mike Strange: Are the Vols losing their basketball stepping stones? :

So, SC needed a football coach and hired one that had won championships; Hammy hired Dooley. They needed a bball coach and did the same. Hammy hired Martin. Hmmm....

Written on Georgia delivers a punch in gut to Vols, 68-62:

in response to VolFanHoping:

I just went through the UT Sports site to look at the men's teams SEC finishes since 2003, when Hammy came in. It's just about shocking to see the consistent decline in every sport. And the one team that didn't, was coached by a cheat and liar. Sad.

"almost every sport" I meant.

Written on Georgia delivers a punch in gut to Vols, 68-62:

in response to Ironcity:

I think this is his last hire. Coach Serrano was chosen by a committee and Hamilton had limited input. Poor coach Serrano had to inherit a team (from coach Raliegh another Hamilton hire)that was even worse off then both the football team and the basketball team.

Written on Georgia delivers a punch in gut to Vols, 68-62:

in response to Ironcity:

I usually don't defend the hapless coaching we witness every night but UGA played awfully well tonight and made a lot of tough shots. That said UGA's weakness mirrors UTs in that they are poor ball handlers. Coach Fox immediately pressed UT and caused turnovers and disruption. UT on the other hand did what we always do and just let the other team dictate what they want to do and put zero pressure on the ball.

I give us three more wins this year. Not sure who they will be against but even with Golden, their really isn't anything here. I hate to say this but ticket sales will plummet enough that coach Martin will be on the hot seat next year for sure. The lat thing UT needs is another coaching change but magic Mike really did a number on us.

For Richardson being such a stopper, he sure gets lit up by the top players (Henderson, Young. and now Pope).

When will we be done with Hamilton hire; how many are left?

Written on Georgia delivers a punch in gut to Vols, 68-62:

in response to orangevagabond:

Nobody cares anymore.

But hey, doesn't Mike Hamilton's $1.3 million undue payout make you feel a little better?

Written on Mike Hamilton defends department's debt practices:

in response to Prostar:

The two biggest blunders that I see are 1. Giving Fulmer an extension and raise on his contract and subsequently firing him with a huge payout. 2. The $5 mil. buyout given Dooley who was not a proven headcoach. Hamilton may have been a good fundraiser but he was a disaster as an administrator/contract negotiator.

While he may have been a good fundraiser, it seems to becoming apparent that he was an ever "better" spender. Obviously UT's current financial woes are very much his fault. It's just too sad Cheeky added to them by giving Hammy $1.3 million not due him.

Written on Tennessee governor says Vols must fill Neyland:

in response to TommyJack:

The most *amazing* thing Hamilton ever did was writing in an expensive buyout for Dooley...a buyout for a coach with absolutely zero leverage. That was criminal.

Agreed!

Written on Tennessee governor says Vols must fill Neyland:

What really ticks me off about this is that Hamilton was praised for his financial stewardship if nothing else. Cheeky gave him $1.3 mil for destroying a variety of programs, running up debt, and bleeding reserves. Geez I wish I could get a job where I get paid that much for ruining so many things.

Written on Dave Hart: Tennessee's brand remains strong :

in response to lknvol:

Cheek needs to go before the brand will start to recover. He and Hamilton presided over the dismantling of the AD and Cheek has not been held accountable!!

Here here!! The day Cheeky decided to give Hammy $1.3 million not due him because it "was the right thing to do," and then come to find out we're broke AND our programs suck, all adds up to me asking, "who is accountable up there?"

Written on What place will the men's basketball team finish in the SEC?:

in response to SummittsCourt:

Mike Hamilton - the gift that keeps on giving. Thanks Mikey!

"Giving?" To UT? We gave HIM millions! All UT got in return was debt and losing records.

Written on Dave Hart: Tennessee's brand remains strong :

in response to lemme_axya_this:

Absolutely right. It's gonna take more than a couple of bad coaching hires to undo a school as rich in tradition as ours. I have no reason to believe that CBJ will not be successful at UT.

I think it's been more than a "couple:"
Sanders
Cutcliff (just used us until another HC job came along)
Clawson
Peterson
Pearl (cheated, lied, and tried to get others to help him do that)
Raleigh
Kiffin
Dooley
Sunseri
and probably Martin

Written on Vols fall into a Steele trap, 68-65:

Why on earth would someone admit they "rode a column hard" on a sports web site?

Written on Vols fall into a Steele trap, 68-65:

Just one more year. Hang in there VOL fans.

You mean after one more year we get a real coach?

Written on Vols fall into a Steele trap, 68-65:

......Tennessee basketball follows Tennessee football into the abyss.........UT athletic department headed for an historic low..........the ghost of Mike Hamilton continues to haunt......!

At least it should make you happy that Hammy got $1.3 million as a parting gift (that he wasn't due) from Cheeky.

Written on Tennessee running back Quenshaun Watson away from team due to personal issues; return is uncertain:

Written on Dave Hart: Tennessee's brand remains strong :

Blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda. We've heard the same thing about all our programs for the last 10 years. The only thing that's changed is how many more millions everyone involved keeps getting paid.

Written on Vols lose to Ole Miss, 92-74 in SEC opener:

Another team in mediocrity...doesn't that mean we owe Hamilton or someone $1 million+ for their legacy?

Written on Video highlights of Tennessee's win over Western Carolina:

I have a feeling the next five games are going to be highlights from losing efforts.

Written on Tough enough? No choice for Vols against Georgetown :

Written on Report card: Tennessee's offense bounces back, but defense continues to struggle :
