Who knows? One thing Tyler will have in the NFL that he never had at UT is coaching. It does make a difference.

Written on Memphis: 'This is your team':

Wow, the last few coaches must have thought Memphis was in Mississippi or Arkansas. Just like they thought Chattanooga was in Georgia. Glad to see the Jones crew at least try to recruit the whole state.
I think we may just have a good staff here, give them a chance, Butch is probably the best UT could hope to do for the money they were willing to spend. Who's to say (for sure) a $5 million coach would do any better.
I sure like this staff better than the last two bunches of losers. The Vols gave that (whatever he way) Dooley three years, give the Jones crew at least that much time.

Look sonny, you started this a few nights ago calling me a dumb hillbilly. You can dish it out, but you can't take it. If you were as bright as most yankees think they are, you would have already figured out that Glens Fobiles and some of his other names is Brett Roberts amatuer pro handicapper out of Nashville. You think he is Jeff Flowers, but you are wrong. Look at some of the post on here by Brett Roberts, his facebook entries and you tube aka Brett Maverick. He is Brett and not Jeff, unless you are Brett Roberts a legend in his own mind.

Also sonny I have been viewing the vols as long as you have and fully support my school and Coach Majors a real legend, who forgot more about football than Fulmer ever knew.

We can be friends, or you can throw your yankee comments in some other direction.

Sorry I called you dumb. We're both hillbillies so that shouldn't bother you. You know more about Glenn Ford, Jeff Flowers & Brett Roberts than I'll ever care to & seem to know quite a lot of Vol football history. I thought you were one of the Fulmerites on here that gripe about everything that happens. I agree with you about J.M., but it's just football to me & I enjoy it, some are way too serious about it. I enjoy it more when the Vols win.
Don't ever take anything I say to heart.
Didn't mean to pizz you off, but I really don't care.

Bea's is the place, VolinMich. When my wife and I were married, we spent a 1 night honeymoon at the King's Lodge on Missionary Ridge, then the next day, I took her to Bea's for our first official meal as husband and wife. (We boys from Chatta know how to do a honeymoon in style!) My grandmother lived on Palm Beach Ave in E Ridge and several of my cousins attended ERidge. The most outstanding leftie I ever faced in high school was a guy from ER by the name of Freddie Duke. One of my brothers in law is an ER grad. While I, like you, hate to see the deterioration of certain parts of the city, my heart still beats a little faster every time I top Miss. Ridge and glimpse the Scenic City nestled between those beautiful mountains. Hopefully, after a couple of years with CBJ at the helm, we'll both be seeing a lot more orange wherever we go. I definitely feel he is a significant upgrade over the last 2. Gotta go to Lansing next month and may be going to Gr Rapids later this month. Could you do whatever you can to warm things up for me? Hey there, VolinMich, I don't know why you would refer to Chatta as "an awful place" but it is also MY home town, and unless I had a great job or some other significant reason for living in SW Mich, I'd take Chatta in a heartbeat. I would venture to say that more folks are leaving Mich for other places to live than are leaving Chatta. I have quite a few friends in Mich and have occasion to visit various parts of the state on business from time to time, but in all my visits, I have never had to combat the allure to move there. But while I take issue with you on your opinion of Chatta., I am in agreement with you in wanting to see Bama beat ND. I have lived the majority of my adult life in the north or midwest and like you, I have had to contend with the smugness and arrogance of both fans and media who demonstrated a genuine contempt for Southern teams in general and Southeastern teams in particular. While ND played what I felt was a fairly competitive and challenging schedule, they nevertheless avoided a major hiccup on the way to the BCSCG by not having to play a conference championship game. I can understand why the majority of football fans would be pulling for ND because they are tired of SEC dominance and the bragging rights that go with it. But I for one had all I could stomach of hearing about the superiority of college football being played outside the SEC, so even at the risk of having to deal with some rabid Bama fans, I will be pulling for them tonight because I want to see that seat of college football dominance remain firmly rooted in the SEC. Although I have to admit that I didn't lose any sleep over Louisville's W over Fla. I feel that Louisville's performance simply underscored the capability and potential of CBJ & staff, and consequently gave me encouragement that better days are ahead for UT football. By the way, if you ever happen to be visiting your Mom at the same time I'm visiting mine, I'd be happy to take you to my all time favorite restaurant on Dodds Ave. Some of the best fried chicken and barbeque you'll ever eat. Then again, you may have become so used to SW Mich quisine that you would not be able to appreciate some fine Chatta dining. You have a good day now.

Bea's? I have a lot of good & bad memories of Chattanooga (the Awful was a dig at the other poster), but East Ridge, where we're from is a different story. ;-) Breaks my heart to see it getting run down but I guess everthing has to be at Hamilton Place.
Notre Damn not being in a conference always bothered me. They were a natural fit for the Big 10-13 or whatever, but Jo Pa didn't want it & N.D. thought they were too big for it. The only time I pull for Michigan is when they play N.D. Mich. or Mi.St. one will usually beat the Irish, but not this year.
I may be wrong, but I think the Vols have a real coach if he gets a chance. Not like the last two.

I want Bama to kick the dookie out of Notre Damn! These Yankees are always wanting the SEC teams to lose, They're tired of SEC teams winning everything. If Bama loses, I'll never hear the end of it. Typical of trolls.........they try to tell you what someone else said.........in their own style, of course.

'thru and thru.' Blah, blah, blah.........

Yeah, I wasted that time. Good example why some say UT has the worst fans in the country. I don't think that (Gators are worse) but we do have some of the biggest butthole posters on the internet.
On subject, Would love to find a good mobil QB, but the Vols need help everywhere (depth & speed). Get players who want to be here & play football for the Vols and will fit in Coach Jones' system.

Written on Mike Strange: Is Notre Dame the cure for SEC Fatigue? :

Roll Tide (Yuk) I always pull for SEC teams as well as any other southern team in a bowl. While most Yankees are nice, some can be real buttholes about sports, especialy when it's North vs South.
I just don't like Notre Damn, never have, never will. Not since Manning got screwed out of the Heisman(sp?) Most fans around here feel the same about the Irish as we do about Gators. A lot of Irish fans are more arrogant than any Gator or Bammer & I'll never hear the end of from the few I know. I don't hate Bama (married to one) or N.D., they're just the enemy. I don't even hate the Gators. just most of their fans.
Like it or not, Nick Satan is the best coach in college football & even if Bama should lose, they'll be back next year & the next & the next, ect. (Depending on A&M & Johnny Footballs season))
The only thing wrong with Satan is that he's at Bama & not UT. I'm not sure even he could win at UT.
No matter what, we should have a good game tonight. I sure miss the Vols not going to some kind of bowl.

Written on Louisville upsets Florida 33-23 in Sugar Bowl:

in response to DeltaCharlie3:

And it wasn't that close. Great job to Strong and staff. So glad he's at Louisville and not somewhere in the SECe, namely Tennessee.

Florida got out-coached and out-played, period, on top of having 5 weeks of bowl prep hearing about how good they were and how Louisville wasn't worthy. Plus, the dynamic of Strong staying at Louisville serving as a boost for the players all = a perfect storm for the disinterested Gators. Still, 11-2 is an outstanding season and I'm proud of Muschamp and the season he had. Program is headed back in right direction.

Happy offseason everyone. See ya around soon once the SEC basketball slate heats up.

Classy post DC3. Looked like your Gators had too much time off. To all those Vol fans who root for SEC teams to lose in the bowls, wait till next year when the rankings come out. All this does is give everyone outside of the South more fuel for their claim that the SEC is overrated. You know like " Yeah, Florida should be #3 but they lost to Louisville, let's put Purdue ahead of them & Mich St ahead of LSU. That SEC has always been overrated"
That's the way most Yankees think. When the Vols finaly beat a SEC team it's not going to mean as much. Know why, the SEC lost all those bowl games to lesser conference teams. Just like a lot of you want.

Written on Mike Strange: Why watching basketball is better than watching football :

in response to FWBVol:

Mike, with all due respect, you are showing your Kentucky roots when you make your debate for basketball being better than football.

Football has big hits, the two-minute drill, spring football, the Heisman watch and, this year, Johnny Touchdown. Football is playing in 90 degree weather in September and snow in November or December. Football requires being able to adapt and adjust not just to the other team, but, with the exception of games played in dome stadiums, the elements as well.

Football is the ultimate team sport when the offensive linemen play their entire careers knowing that by design they will never touch the ball or score and the only time they will hear their number called by the PA guy is when they are guilty of a penalty.

Football is Steve DeLong, Steve DeLong and Keith DeLong...the Majors Brothers, Archie Manning at Ole Miss, Peyton at UT and Eli at Ole Miss.

Yes, football only has one game a week, but that too is part of the beauty of the game as the anticipation builds for Saturday and afterwards fans have a week to talk about what went well in victory or what went wrong defeat.

Yeah, but Mike likes "10 guys in a tank top and shorts", he said so. Strange!
