Voloffaith,

Always great to see you here friend.

Just wanted to ask, if you don't mind, is Vols4gzus your cousin? Haven't seen him here for a while, but we need more positive people like the two of you.

Slowly but surely, this particular site will improve and the I believe many of the gripers and trolls will be phased out.

Early wish for all the moms to have a Happy Mothers Day.

What can Trolls say bad about Jones? If they start mouthing off while he is doing probably the best recruiting job in CFB They will really show their BU...knowledge.They can't throw darts at his past, he was a champion and coach place he coached. Time fir s to giggle at the tolls they have to keep quite about coach until after the Squirrel season opens in Sept.Hide your shot gun shells use .22 shorts

I was wondering if the strength coach can video tape players practices... and then turn these taped practices into coach Jones for tweaking?

Wondering the same thing, I have heard it answered both ways. If there is a restriction I would think it would be the coaches response to the player viewing. With today's elect timing resopnse and Video ablity that could almost be a real time coaches task.

Not nearly as bad as you are going to want the start of a new season before you retirement runs out. When you are pushing 80 you want them to play every day. Heck at least get KNS to write about them on a dally basis.W ave a team loaded with talent and a great coaching staff. Come on guys the saying goes "talk is cheap" It didn't say anything about being painless. There are one only a couple of days before the O/W, now is the time to spit it all out there where it's heard loud and clear. For all, Fan or not, team, coaches, and directors.
Now we all know that Butch raved about UT being his dream job,not just his dream but the whole staff's. Well I believe that is true, but the dreams were Night Mares thinking this great opportunity could slip away and they'd be know as the staff that couldn't prevent standing on their their own tinkle. NO. Well lets take a little look.
Not the best but top 25 recruiting the past 5 years, Top recruits not being developed. A Top 25 Defense that couldn't return enough starters to get ranked above 100, One of the Top Offenences in CBF, as well as maybe the top O-Line, top WR's, top QB, Top, top top. Butched and staff were dieing inch by inch watching this empire crumble piece by piece. They knew darn well that had starting material and they'd get more. Did Jones so much as get a delayed grunt out of any member of his staff when they were ask to come along. Not one that I can remember. Why? Hell they dream the same as Butch. They want this, YES the word is They.
If I could I'd be there with all 11 of my grand kids, but Sheeet it just isn't to be. So you can still get it done. Make this a record and let the coach and staff know 'IT'S THAT TIME" Troll or crappie fish up and down the river but get there and yell your heads off. make up for the past 4 years. This is our year so lets start it howling for goodness sakes. GO Vols, Go Vols. The Tide is down the bowl because the Vols are on a roll.

Written on Tennessee RB Marlin Lane out for 'disciplinary reasons':

in response to CoverOrange:

Why didn't CBJ just say so in the first place? What purpose was served by the obfuscation?

My guess is the delay was just a factor of Lane's looking for some means to work around the problem. This family illness thing is just getting a little old but it does give folks a little time to start working on the issues. It appears once there was no questions about the charge that Butch went straight to the heart of the problem and it is going to be Butch's way. So I hope Lane gets another chance but for some reason I doubt he will. Butch isn't going to have the options of playing games to keep players. He has to be all business no exceptions.

in response to EDDIE_2:

If last week was any indication, looks like defense is ahead now.I hope both are improving by the time season starts.

You know darn well there will be all kinds of improvement on both sides of the ball. We can't really tell much until the O/W and not a lot even then. The Def will most definite show a lot of improvement because of the return to A scheme they are all very familiar with. We should not have been surprised with our pour showing last year these kids were not recruited to play a 3-4 and I think they will be out for blood to show they have the makings for a good team.AS for the Off I think they are only lacking in the QB and WR's. And I think those guys tried to carry the team instead of working with the guys.I know that is a lot but these new kids have a little stuff to show themselves. Over all we will be a better team this year.

Written on Butch Jones pleased with Vols' attitude after first day back at practice:

I have to agree with you Tomato. Jones and crew are workers and why not. This is their very big chance, Make this happen this year and you have it made. Written on Lady Vols feeling at home in regional, advance to play Louisville:

I love our sports writers.
Not one has so much as said what round the Vols were playing in last wk or this wk. If those writers don't like their job they should just move on, try to get a good pay check somewhere else or a good following. There are many readers that aren't following game per game and would like to know where we stand in the tournaments. What is so hard about saying E-8 or F-4 to help originate your following?

Written on First Vols' situational football scrimmage has some real drama at the end:

I'm as optimistic as any Vol fan alive. again 8-4 will be our run. But less we not forget that being able to fire up the players in routines isn't coaching a game. This staff has a little experience at game time. But all in all maybe I should revise that 8-4 call. Say about 8-4 plus a bowl

If your serious. Go Big Orange.

The 9-3 stuff is shaky of course. but I do expect a 7-5 or 8-4. I really think we are going to be a gold pole getter this year. Why not! we have the talent and we've knocked on the door for three years now. Dooley just couldn't keep it together for four Qtrs Butch has pulled out some tight games and he knows how to count to 11 without getting lose. He also knows how to read a play clock and not let it laps when there are at least two plays left in the basket, and he in in scoring range. No we will win this year.

I am looking for progress but not miracles. That doesn't mean I am content to lose. What sports fan is? But I think it is too much to think CBJ can pull rabbits out of a hat. Let's check out the teams effort, attitude, and progress. All Orange- All the Time.

Well if you have any faith in Jones at all then you are expecting some pretty big things. And I think that is rightfully so. Jones has coached very well at all stops so why would one expect him to change? I don/t expect anything but improvement to his record. He has more talent than any other time in his career, Fact is he has everything better than any other time in his career and he has played some of the teams he will face this year. I think he has as good a staff as anyone in CBF and all are excited to prove their worth. Lets remember our head coach is only the administrator and the assistants do the position coaching. We will win, Big wins, and the ones we should win 8-4 is very doable. I wouldn't back off to far from a 9-3. We should have been there last year and all know it. Yes our defence was bad on big pays last year but they we number 26 the year before and many are sill here. We are going to be good on the field it is going to be a tram for a change and our players are going to love it. They are going to shuck down some noted teams and players and leave them red faced in the center of the field. Just be there and watch the P-P fly.
Go big orange Fans you're the 12 man so make the team.

We have talent, Coaching, Fan BASE and the best training area in CFB. Stop the BS and we'll get there in one year. I don't car what the sport writers and shows say, most of them are still wet behind the ears, and are really trying to advance their Primadonna image. Players always have and will respond to the fan excitement, always have and always will. All we have to do is support. No whining BS this year. NO feeding the Trolls, Lets not follow the nation in it's down hill trend, lets set the example for recovery. The Fans "WE ARE THE PEOPLE" Be harsh and exact and tell it as it is but NO political correctness BS.

Written on Robert Gillespie hired as Tennessee's new running backs coach:

That's good and all, but do you really think Tennessee is going to sign many Florida high school players that Florida, FSU, Miami or Alabama want?

I hope for the best, and this guy may be sliced bread all over again. But I am not kneeling at the altar of Jones quite yet. No more than Dooley or Kiffin. Prove something first is what I say.

3 & 4 star players needing only 1 or two points to move up one in the ratings are common in FL. As in AL,Ga Lo and others.
We do very well against AL and FLS in Fl. and we are pretty good getting the players needing only a point in the in others.

Good, my only complaint is that he waited this long to leave. He wasn't all that as a recruiter anyway. Marcus Lattimore was going to SC no matter who the RB coach was.

It will be hard at this date to replace him, but I'm sure Coach Jones will find a qualified replacement.

Sum
I think you're hitting the head pretty good
This happened pretty smoothly and I don't hear much being said one way or the other.I have the feeling Jay has known for some time he was going to FLS. This was not the team he played for and it was not ready to really go out and recruit for coaches. This problem goes way back. We should have had a solid plan for replacing Phil. Everyone knew that he would go at some period in the future and we were just flat when it came to future org. planning. I don't think Jay or Bucth are very upset about this, fact is I think it happened right on schedule as the two of them planned We will have another coach Sickied-split. Fact is I bet there is a coach in waiting.

God bless you my Little One.An Old man on Hospice for the third time in 10 years Would love to see the season start today,NOT TOMORROW! Again I liked Dooley, His long term efforts were right on the money but they were still very long term. BJ appears to have it together and Pee on what others are saying, Dooley didn't leave a dry cupboard. Dooley came very close to making that big move this year and Jones know it very well. This is his and his staff's golden opportunity and they each know it. They are in much better position than they were when they took Cinn from Brian and they have as much talent or more than ND had this year. We are going to howl believe me it will sound loud and great.. You know it, The staff knows it, I know it and so does the players.

Jones has great PR skills and seems very likable. Other than that I am not informed other than the articles here to say how good his staff is. However I think some of you may agree that "the best staff in America" comments Jones made at the first press conference is the expected B.S. spin. Jones did not shop one single coach other than retain Graham and ask Martin. Other than that all the coaches are from Central Michigan or Cincinatti. Who knows, could be a terrific staff, but the best staff in the country....right.

A great team working together can get a lot done that a few hot shots on their own can never do. I think that is what Butch was trying to get across. He just maybe right. We'll see how it goes in the O/W I bet he wins.

i seemed the vols got embarrassingly out-coached second half of every sec game the last 3 years

You have a very valid point. I really liked Dooley and I think his long term plan was good. The real problem was he couldn't take care of the home front. The sec is Defence, defence and some defence. He should never have tried to change everything at one time. I even think that Sal was a good coach just not ready for DC at this time, but the 3-4 is a very good Defense but takes a lot of time to get up to speed. Dooley didn't have that kind of time, his mistake. We will have a pretty good season this year 7-8 wins with two upsets. These guys are a hungry group of coaches and they work with their players.Look for players to put out every game.

Written on John Adams: Avoiding Oregon would be worse than losing to it:

in response to 10seVol85_Part_Deux:

I think it's only fair that somebody put those stats in some perspective.

Yes, Oregon scored a lot of points and put up a lot of offense, 4th in the country. However, if you look at their opponents, they didn't exactly face a lot of SEC quality defenses. In fact, they only played one team in the top 20 in total defense (Fresno State finished at #19). Seven of their opponents finished in the bottom 50 (53, 64, 83, 94, 121, 122 plus TN Tech's 466 yards allowed per game equals #108 if they were FBS -- of course, they would certainly have given up even more yards than that if they played an FBS schedule). Their other opponents ranked 21, 26, 30 and 32. Overall, not even counting Tn Tech, their average opponent finished ranked 60th.

Our offense faced #1, 5, 12, 17, 27, 59, 60, 61, 80, 96, 101, and our FCS opponent gave up almost exactly the same yards/game as theirs.

Sometimes stats can be misleading if not taken in context.

Smarty. Do you think that the naysayers even know what you are saying?
