Written on Tennessee releases 2014 football schedule:

another 5-7 coming your way. Enjoy the change!!!

Written on Mark Wiedmer: Phillip Fulmer takes responsibility, likes UT Vols coach Butch Jones:

Coach Fulmer, with all things being considered, was by far the best coach in school history. He is a Hall of Famer with only a handful of coaches in the Hall of Fame with a better resume. He would be about the 2nd or 3rd winningest coach in SEC history had they not screwed up the program by firing him. I think he is still 6th. This decline everyone speaks about was still averaging close to 10 wins per year, national recognition and full houses. They went to Atlanta about every couple of years.

Make no mistake about it. The 1990s which included one of college footballs greatest runs of 45-5, will never be duplicated at Tennessee. It will not be duplicated at almost any school.
That being said, the record of 2000-20008 also will never be duplicated again. I assure you Butch will take the record and accomplishments of the 2000-2008 years and not blink thinking he did a great job. You are holding a man to a standard that he created where it had never been there prior. He was being judged from slipping from a level that no one ever dreamed UT would be to a level that UT has also never been to and certainly not in the modern era.

Lets hold Butch to the 45-5, a legit National Title and back to back SEC Titles as his standard. He will never come close. This program will never again come close.

Get over your lunacy fed by the likes of Adams. Oh yea, enjoy your change. This is what you asked for!!

Written on Vols open season at Xavier, face difficult SEC road tests:

in response to CommodoreCapital:

Is Martin serious about "one of the best, if not the best non-conference schedules in the nation". With that schedule of only one NCAA tournament team last year out of conference, UT will need to win 22 games because of the SOS. Not like many of the SEC games are going to help.

I think UT can get 22 wins, but that comment is absurd.

What an idiot.

NC State? Probably Kansas? Wichita State (final 4, Xavier in the Natti. Virginia. Probably Iowa. Very good schedule and when you go down the schedules of the traditional elite, they will look similar.

Idiot

Written on John Adams: Phillip Fulmer needs to look in a mirror before assessing blame:

1. Phillip is a Hall of Famer.

2. Phillip won almost 10 games per year for 16 years.

3. Phillip won the only legit National Title in school history.

4. As we are seeing, Tenn is not an easy place to win. Take Phillip and Neyland's record out of school history and the program has a losing record.

5. As time goes by, we will continue to appreciate more how tough a job this is and why Phillip is one of the greatest college football coaches of all time.

6. John Adams should not be allowed to address the great Fulmer ever. He is in a different league.

Written on How many wins will the Vols have this season?:

in response to mikethehistorystudent:

As of now, 13 trolls have voted for 4 or fewer. I'm looking forward to that upset against S.C. By then the Vols should be running like a fine tuned machine under Jones.

LMFAO!!!! Keep on dreaming..

Written on John Adams: Phillip Fulmer needs to look in a mirror before assessing blame:

Fulmer is a Hall of Famer (a real one not one that puts any old writer in), one of the greatest to walk any sideline. Adams is a hack. Nuff said.

Written on Commitment CJ Turman will help UT basketball fill sizeable gaps down the line:

Those of you complaining are the same guys bragging about signing an offensive lineman with no SEC offers.

Written on QB Josh Dobbs garners oohs and ahhs in Vols' open practice:

in response to 10seVol85_Part_Deux:

Jordan Williams managed to get past Tiny for what would have been a sack. That says something about Williams. Clowney couldn't get past Tiny for one of those last season. He only managed to get close enough to touch Bray once (costly though it was) all night. Williams must have some real skills.

Those on the Tennessee team that was there last year and watched the film will laugh at that comment. Clowney played less than half the snaps due to injury and half of the snaps he had where on the 2 technique due to an injury to another player. This has been the biggest misconception ever. When they where head up and they needed a play, Clowney made it. That simple. Injury and all.

You all are really reaching.

Written on Vols new alternative football uniform adds a 'smokey' shade of gray:

in response to powellvol82:

Coach Jones says on twitter that his phone has been blowing up from recruits asking him about the new uni's. They say they love them. Where are all the homers now that said it doesn't matter in recruiting?

Hey Mr. I will believe anything, I have some Ocean Front property in Arizona. From the front porch you can see the sea....LOL!!!

Written on New UT tight end Woody Quinn ready to transition from volleyball:

in response to calvol:

Good luck young man! plenty of great tight ends have transitioned from basketball, volleyball not too different in terms of quickness, elevation, and timing. Hopefully he'll do well.

PS, not familiar with Ocean County, Santa Ana JC is in Orange County. If we are going to recruit out here we need to get the geography right or look foolish to those out west reading these articles. Pepperdine and Cal Baptist are big time volleyball schools, electing to go the football route required a stop at a JC (neither of the mentioned schools has football). For the poster interested in Samoan players, Cali is the place to find them. SoCal high schools and JC's are loaded with Samoans and Tongans. GBO!

While yes Santa Anna College is in Orange County (and what the writer should have said) it is also about 30 miles south of LA.

Written on Illinois point guard Larry Austin commits to Vols for 2014:

I heard Coach Martin turned in Illinois for offering him an SUV.

Written on Butch Jones says Eric Gordon won't play in 2013:

in response to civilianvol_formerly_marinevol:

I will never forget his pick-six in the overtime win over Vanderbilt. That is the only time I ever saw a team win a game in overtime without their offense ever taking the field.

It should not have counted. The referees blew it. The whistle blew the play dead.

Written on Jabo Lee's coach upset with Tennessee:

The beginning of the end.

Written on On Tennessee's pre-camp depth chart, QB race is wide open:

in response to Lizardgrad89:

Of course the QB battle is "wide open". If you pick one in Spring, the other will likely transfer, particularly if you are favoring the younger guy. You don't want to be without an experienced backup.

This is no slight on the UT coaches. It's simply how everybody does it. With good reason.

Nobody does that if they have A QB.

4-8 coming your way. 2014....worse.

Written on John Adams: Butch Jones' recruiting proves that UT tradition still matters:

The difference in Hall of Fame coaches and the Johnny come latelys is the ability to recruit to the depth chart. There are no difference making OL and zero DL in this class. Not a winning strategy.

Written on Tennessee's football uniforms will have minor changes in 2013:

They will look like the same sub 500 squad regardless of what they wear...and will for decades to come.

Written on Govols247: Four-star linebacker Kevin Mouhon's commitment makes six in a week for Tennessee:

No OL anyone wanted. No DL at all. All adds up to another fired coach in 3-4 years.

You have to recruit to your depth chart. You have to recruit to your needs.

Written on GoVols247: Tennessee adds four-star receiver Booth:

Before you get to excited, they can sign 25. They can bring in another 3 or so at the mid term so about 28 total. They have 22 committed. Of the 22,

2 are offensive lineman and they are 3 stars for what that is worth. Neither have any big time offers.

They have zero defensive lineman.

This is a line of scrimmage league. This year will be horrible. Next season will be horrific and with no lineman he will be fired in 4 years.

Get in where you fit in Tenn football. You where winning 10 games per year on average and you will be lucky to have a single 10 win season in the next 25.

Written on Mike Strange: As Tide rolls on, has Nick Saban surpassed Bear Bryant?:

I will not be back at the stadium on Phillip Fulmer Way (and many others apparently either) until there is a statue erected for our Hall of Famer as it should have already been done.

Neyland

SEC All Time Record

UT 320-181-19

Take out Fulmer and Neyland

119-130-9

That is the real UT history.

Written on Vanderbilt plans to go from 'good to great':

in response to MilitaryBrat:

It still amazes me that people are still obsessed over Fulmer getting fired.

It is pretty pathetic that they are more Fulmer fans, than Tennessee fans.

A Hall of Famer? Seriously? He led UT to it's greatest era in UT football history. Every other school erects statues to their greatest...their Hall of Famers. He did something that will never be repeated at UT...NEVER!!!

The Athletic Department was mismanaged in a horrible way and he is the prime example. Look at how UT went back to the predominantly 500 program it has been most of it's existence.

Take out Neyland beating up Knoxville High, Chattanooga and William & Mary type schedules in a non media, non segregated era in front of about 15K fans, take out the Hall of Famer's real era accomplishments, and UT's historical 65% winning percentage gets very close to that 500 mark.

Written on Vanderbilt plans to go from 'good to great':

If not for a horrible call by the officials, Vandy would be going for 3 in a row.

Written on Mike Strange: For John Adams, a Hall of Fame sportswriting career started early:

Is it me or didn't he get in some Hall about every year. I think writers have more Hall of Fame's then any profession. It is not really a Hall of Fame but more like a Hall of Longevity. If you know enough people and write long enough, regardless of how inept you are at it, you get in some Hall thingy.

JOKE!!

Written on 4 Vols named to Nagurski, Outland Trophy watch lists:

I am thinking 14-0 with all that talent!!!!

Written on 'Meet Your Seats' planned at Neyland Stadium:

The crowds they have now you can laydown.

Written on Tennessee finishes 37th, an all-time low, in final Directors' Cup standings:

The current AD had nothing to do with this mess.

The slip is evident as Hamilton's influence took hold. When you have the greatest football, basketball, baseball and one of the best track coaches on campus and on the job at the same time and you fire or mismanage them, this is what you get.

For those that thinks Hammy did some magical fundraising, the only increase on the revenue line comes from the conference TV deal. Nothing to do with Hammy. The raising of the funds for the facilities (which is outside the operating budget for some reason at most schools) was put in place under Dickey and was not from Hammy.

Enjoying the change yet? LOL

This year might be an all time low in football. 4-8 type of season coming our way.

Written on Mike Strange: What sport wins Tennessee's next national title?:

in response to tvol71:

As far as bricks are concerned, got to start somewhere. I can't say that he will bring a national championship, but I believe Jones will return us to national prominence given a little time (3 to 4 years).

LOL....This program has only had legit National Prominence during the great Phil run. It will be decades before you see anything good here over time. It will never be another run ever close to the great Phil run.

Enjoy the change

Written on Mike Strange: What sport wins Tennessee's next national title?:

In football, the recognized National Champions historically by everyone outside of Alabama, are the AP, UPI, BCS, ESPN and Coaches. When you count them up by year, that is what you see for example when they say Alabama went ahead of ND this year by one to give it 14 titles I think it is. Not 38 like those people say.

By the standard the world considers, UT has two titles as Mike here said, 51 and 98. But the 51 team lost the bowl game. BTW, the team they got beat by (USC) was the only team they played that year ranked in final Top 25. If they did it right at all back then and waited till bowl season, UT would have just one NATIONAL TITLE and that would be 1998!!

War Hall of Famer!!

Enjoy the change.

Written on Butch Jones says players being 'transformed' in summer conditioning:

in response to bUTch_please:

Worley = drop-back

Peterman = drop-back

Ferguson = drop-back

Dobbs = 6'3", 193 lb, 4.0 GPA wildcard.

It's football. Try not to overthink it.
Classic gamblers' error.

According to some on the team that has been working out with Dobbs, he is about 160 lbs. Not close to 193lbs and not close to being ready to play. We run with the garbage we have.

Written on Butch Jones says players being 'transformed' in summer conditioning:

in response to Ghost_Of_Neyland:

(This comment was removed by the site staff.)

It is more to do with the fact that Bray is a loser and the NFL people paid to analyze that know that. His stats against good teams would have put him in D1AA as an average QB. He feasted on having first round WR's running around 10 yards open and good protection. He will not be an NFL QB period.

Written on Butch Jones says players being 'transformed' in summer conditioning:

in response to utvolfan1955:

troll coming our way

Glad you introduced yourself. I on the other hand broke down the schedule, the talent and this staff and am saying this will be a 4-8 year.

Written on Mike Strange: SEC hoops coaches understand schedules need a boost:

Has anyone ever looked at the schedules of other teams in other conferences? Not some bs rpi but look at them. they are horrific.

Written on Jordan McRae 'happy with the choice' to return, using summer to improve :

in response to eb502us#225637:

McRae will never sniff the NBA. He doesn't have the skill set much less the BB IQ.

He certainly improved his game last season but he still a suspect ball handler, has an inconsistent jump shot, and cannot create on his own. He also doesn't finish well around the basket, takes too many bad and makes just as many bad passes.

Yeah I know it sounds like he's a bench warmer but to make it in the NBA as a guard, you have to have a pretty good all around game with few weaknesses. I hope he proves me wrong and plays lights out this season, but I just don't see it.

Thanks for that breakdown Mitch Kupchak.

Written on Jordan McRae 'happy with the choice' to return, using summer to improve :

in response to VolunteerLifer:

Problem is, the NBA is strictly an offense minded league. So, while UT needs desperately for him to work on his defense, his desire to play in the league biases him to want to work on his offense.

If he is a consistent scorer AND plays terrific defense, our team will be much improved. If he remains a mediocre defensive player, he'll just give back to the competition in defense what he takes from them in offense.

if it was an offensive league the scores would be 225 to 210. These are the best players and best athletes on the planet. No one person can stop another on that level. There is a ton of defense. Those in most areas of the country get it as oppose to the Southeast. Thats ok, another 5-7 season is about 70 days away.

Written on Jordan McRae 'happy with the choice' to return, using summer to improve :

in response to mocsandvolsfan:

I have to say it. I'm 58 years old, can't run at all, and have extreme joint issues.

I can score in the RT League.

That said, We've got players who can score and so do a lot of our opponents. Very few teams are really good at defense. All I'm asking for is a good balance. Team chemistry too. and free throws. and rebounding fundamentals. and good passing and ball handling.

!!!!!

Sad how ignorant some fans are. This is a pick up game just like every city in America has and what every name player in America plays in every summer. That being said, these are college and pro players. In the best moment of your life, you would not score a point in any pick up game with these players. Never.

Written on Dan Fleser: New report assesses the state of women's college basketball:

in response to GBOEngineer:

I speak the truth. Most peoples just don't want to watch women playing basketball. Even at UT, which is the most storied program in women's basketball, it takes some creative accounting for it to break even financially.

Even with this creative accounting, it still does not break even.

Written on Dan Fleser: New report assesses the state of women's college basketball:

I disagree about "walking" calls. Sports have rules for reasons. The NBA should enforce the rule.

Actually they do. Learn the rules or try and learn the game. Then get back to us....or not.

Written on Dan Fleser: New report assesses the state of women's college basketball:

1. Maybe these programs cannot afford the extra scholarships and you want to penalize them because no woman's team as much as breaks even much less makes a dime?

2. Yes, it is woman playing basketball. The best woman's college team could not beat a middle of the road boys high school team. Spin it how you want, it is just bad basketball.

3. Maybe no one goes to games throughout the country or it is rarely on network TV cause NO ONE CARES!!

Written on Govols247: Former Terps RB transferring to UT? :

What a change from the Dooley years. How many athletes transferred in under Dooley? We may be back in contention in a couple of years.

Contention for what?? A bowl? A 500 season? Get it thru your heads...errr git it a thru yourn a heads....Tenn had it's glory days under the great Hall of Famer. Some wanted change. You got it. There will be no contention for decades if ever again.

Enjoy the change.

Written on Mike Strange: Vols' dilemma: ticket sales down, SEC travel costs up:

The architect of destruction was Hamilton. Hart maybe horrible but who knows? He inherited a disaster. Hamilton did everything wrong as if he was given a bonus to screw it up. As for facilities, those where planned before he came along. As for fund raising, actual giving has declined along with operating revenue. When you look at the budget the increases are strictly from the conference TV deals. A monkey could have been the AD and the revenue would be the same.

Enjoy the changes

Written on John Frazier leaves UT track staff to become men's coach at UCLA:

He left UT as a coach of the shot put to return to his Alma Mater where he was a 3 time All American and become the head men's track AND FIELD coach. You are the same people that whined because Phil kept a staff together for the majority of 16 years and they did not leave for other jobs. Why would they? You all think this is the best job in America why would anyone go elsewhere? Two sides of the mouth. BTW, all of the assistants on the Hall of Famers staff are doing very well at big time schools. You where all wrong. Now congratulate Frazier and wish him well for being named Head Coach where he was effectively a position coach here.

You people....

Written on Tennessee football takes another hit in NCAA academic rate, could face serious penalties without improvement:

That is what happens when you have a coach (Kiffen) run off over 40 players in terms of current players and committed recruits and has the majority of his recruiting class gone. No one really understands what damage that idiot did in just one year. Nice job Hamilton.
