Why not? Their program is way better thanks to Hammy.

Written on Dre Mathieu sets up visits to Ole Miss, Memphis.:

Get as far away from California as possible. Earthquakes, wild fires, gangs, liberals, high cost of living, ugly beaches where the water is to cold to stick a toe in, traffic, flakes, etc. Go to Ole Miss.

Written on Mike Strange: Bray became the NFL draft's real "Mr. Irrelevant":

Face it. It did not take a ton of skill to hit 3 1st round talents. They where so open it was easy. All of those receivers where 1st round talents.

Of the best QBs in the game (Manning, Brady, Brees, Rogers) and historically (Young, Aikman, Montana, Unites) how many had a strong arm? Rogers I guess? The rest throw accurately, lead, get their team in the right play, throw on time to the right guy and do not fall to pieces when the pocket collapses. Brey may have a strong arm but his accuracy against good competition was horrific, he did not know any plays and his ability to get things done when a rush is coming coupled with the fact that he is a punk tells us why he was not drafted.

Written on Tennessee's Jarnell Stokes to announce intentions Saturday:

in response to tovolny:

I am surprised that he is even being considered as an NBA prospect. At this point, he is just not ready, and he is just too much of a kid. There are probably five ACC teams and five Big East teams that he would not be a starter. He has potential, no doubt, but he has not played against quality players enough to know what big time basketball is all about. I LOVE THE KID, I really do...but he could develop better in college than in Europe. I wish him the best.

Funny how perception is. The ACC has been horrible for many years in the tournament. You could count the good wins that entire conference has on one hand in the past 5 years. Take UNC and Duke out of it and they are the Atlantic Sun. Check their records. Historically they have the same number of National Titles as the SEC. The ACC has been a joke for a long time....outside of those big 2 and they are a laughingstock.

Written on Heather Mason relieved of duties as UT's associate strength and conditioning coach:

in response to MissUT:

She had been at UT for 10 years and was responsible for all 11 Lady Vols sports...so she was obviously worth her salary. It's hardly fair to compare her to another coach who is resposible for 1 sport. If a man was hired for the same job, he would demand a larger salary than was paid to her. Our Lady Vols are losing every step of the way since the idiots in charge decided to group all the sports under 1 athletic department.

They are losing ground as the men's programs have because the Athletic Director Hammy decided to "fix" things. When legendary coaches are gone, the wins go with them.

Written on Heather Mason relieved of duties as UT's associate strength and conditioning coach:

in response to gregorygovols:

She received 102,500 dollars because she was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Women's athletic Department a little over a year or two ago. When the two athletic departments became one, the Head Strength Coach for football (at the time - Ron McKeefery) became the Director of Strength and Conditioning and Mason became second in command. She was never an assistant. You can’t compare her salary to an assistant on the Olympic strength staff (N. Christopher). Last summer there weren’t any football strength coaches other than McKeefery making more than six figures. Football strength coaches always get paid more than Olympic strength coaches…no matter the school…Head, associate or assistant. N. Christopher is making more than he deserves. If comments are going to be made about a subject, know about the subject.

In the real world revenue is king. The spoils go to the riches. There are about 30 or so college football programs that make a profit. The BCS National Title Game and all BCS games made $125 million from TV. The Title game had about 75K in turnstile.

Men's basketball has 56 schools that are profitable. The NCAA tournament makes $775 million per year from TV alone. The championship game had over 70K at game.

When you get out of the Southeast, things are different.

BTW, NO woman's sport makes a dime of profit anywhere.

Get in where you fit in.

Written on Coalfield lineman Zach Stewart commits to Tennessee:

in response to volgrog#210164:

He's a 6-4, 298 lb SOPHOMORE. I'm not too concerned that he's in 1A in TN. Plus, Chad Clifton, Bruce Wilkerson, Bill Mayo, James Stone, Tiny Richardson, Scott Wells, John Bruhin all came from small TN schools so really it sounds more like you've got an ax to grind than a point to make.

I don't mind fans that have a problem that TN let go of a coach- I do have problems with fans that want the team suffer for years as a result and who are against the current coach before he's played a game. I'm a TN fan, not a Phil Fulmer fan. Let it go. I think CPF would say the same.

How did you make that leap? Who cares what you think? Here is the reality. I am, as most should be, in it for the entertainment value. When they have leadership do some of the most ignorant things ever I am done caring. They don't why should we? You can be a step and fetch it fan if you like but I am not a blind follower. Many aren't. The Hall of Famer Phil era was the greatest in school history when you consider all factors....and there is no close second. If you are a UT fan I would think you would enjoy relevance, packed stadiums, great schedules, almost 10 wins per year on average for 16 years, more future NFL players than virtually all other schools, etc. etc. etc. I enjoyed worrying about the rankings, the BCS formula, who is beating who. I enjoyed being the top destination of College Gameday.

Guess what? All gone. None of that will ever be back at this school. So, be a UT fan all you want. Go support mediocrity. I was a fan of a special era led by a special Hall of Famer.

IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN......EVER!!

Written on Vanderbilt coach James Franklin named Tennessean of the Year:

Franklin was not only a great choice but the only obvious choice. He has done incredible things at a traditional doormat. The problem with UT peeps is they do not get it. The guy can coach and recruit. When he gets to a program with serious resources, he will be in the same conversation as Stoops, Myer, Saban, etc. Tenn was just to dumb to pursue this guy cause had they done so they would be back close to the level the great Hall of Famer put them on in their glorious era of 1992-2008.

Enjoy Butch and the rest of the new 500 playing realities at UT.

Written on David Blackburn sees UT time as asset for UTC athletic director position:

Enjoy the change!!

Written on GoVols247: Florida WR becomes ninth UT commitment:

in response to bUTch_please:

Spot on. He's got that Patterson juke. Runs to where the defender was, not into the path of the tackler. Coach Jones has a good eye.

Difference is Patterson is twice his size and everyone wanted him....not just the Conference USA teams.

Written on Vanderbilt coach James Franklin says 'people are offended' that he stands up for his school:

Franklin pumped life into a doormat. He is winning bigger than they have ever won since the 1920's. He is a great recruiter, great coach and when he gets to a place with real resources, he will win a National Title. UT missed out on a guy that is the best coach in Vandy history. He WILL win a National Title before Jones. Not at Vandy but somewhere else.

If UT would have hired him we might get back to several rungs below where the Hall of Famer had it. That would still be better than most programs and way better than UT is and will be doing. Franklin was the obvious choice and UT missed again.

Written on John Adams: UConn one big victory shy of Lady Vols:

in response to Damitman:

Doesn't matter what UConn does, Gino will never be able to equal Pat when it comes to the contrabutions made to Womens basketball. She actually changed the game entirely! Gino can never do that. He will always have to follow her lead no matter how many championships he wins. But he does lead in one catagory, braging! He sure knows how to run his big worthless mouth.

Whatever.....he has more Final Fours. He will have more National Titles. A better winning % in the regular season as well as the tournament. He wiped the floor head to head with Pat and did all of this in less time than she did. Not to mention he did it in a better era without the benefits of outlaw transfers the way Pat built her teams.

Get it through your head. In every, not some, category Gino is the better coach....PERIOD!!!

Written on John Adams: UConn one big victory shy of Lady Vols:

Ready for John Adams to go the way of Andrew Drivel & a few other inept writers coddled by the KNS.

Written on Director of recruiting J.R. Sandlin no longer with UT football:

in response to olozbal#646632:

I'm not versed in the job titles, but I hope this guy wasn't truly our main guy on recruiting if he was making 55k a year in a multi million dollar business.

First of all, it is a non profit. They do not pay corporate income taxes and are not a business. They lose money now and if they had to pay income tax like a real business they would be way more broke.

Regardless of what the job description says, this is a position that is administrative. He is not in charge of who they recruit, who they offer or even close. He could not evaluate a player if he had to. This is not a big deal except for the fact that he did something to get himself fired. That much is clear.

Written on Tennessee baseball gets pounded again; Dave Serrano apologizes:

If Hamilton's job was to ruin the UT Athletic Department he did a masterful job. He inherited Rod Delmonico who was not only the most successful coach in school history but the 4th winningest in SEC history. He inherited a Hall of Fame football coach that was the most successful in school history. He inherited from Ernie Grunfeld and Haslem the most successful basketball coach in school history. He also had one of the best track coaches. When he left they where all gone replaced by amateurs. He did a great job. Hope all of you are enjoying the change.

Your an idiot....enjoy the change and mediocrity. I told you clowns we had the high water mark at UT by a long shot during the Hall of Famer's years and we will NEVER win at that level or close again.....EVER. You read the paper and spew words you do not even know what they mean. Go back to kicking the dog as you watch UT football keep falling behind Vanderbilt.

BTW, he was fired the Tuesday BEFORE the Wyoming game. As a former player I know what emotions go into a game. No one cared after a legend and Hall of Famer was fired. You are an absolute idiot.

True except when they played Alabama's best player was hurt and did not play. Big difference.

Written on Rejection Sunday: Vols left out of NCAA tournament, receive No. 2 seed in NIT:

in response to Basketvol:

I liked Bruce Pearl and hated to see him go. But it's pretty easy to claim we would be winning 25 - 30 games a year with him as coach when there is absolutely no way to prove that. In fact, based on the evidence (the team's record his last year and previous records), this might be a bit of a stretch. We'll never know because he lied to the NCAA and got fired. So, speculate away. Had we kept Dooley, we probably would have won the NC next year. See how that works?

What Pearl did at UT vs UT's history is nothing short of incredible. His first year did not have as much talent as this team. Not even close. They got a nice seed that year. UT was relevant under Pearl in a very big way in all of college basketball much less compared to UT's history. UT athletic administration like any school, has a job to manage it's coaches. All coaches in football and basketball push the limit period. The admin is suppose to keep them out of trouble. UT's was a horrible guy named Hamilton that like everything he did was wrong. You all do not know how this stuff really works. Hamilton has torn down this school as if it was his mandate.

It is up to Hart to try and get it on a path that will get us back to even close to the level we had under the great Fulmer Hall of Fame era. But, it will not happen. It will never be back where Fulmer, Pearl and Delmonico had it....NEVER.

Enjoy the change you wanted and enjoy the tailgates. That is all that is left.

Written on David Climer: SEC-ond rate basketball isn't worthy of NCAA tournament:

Yes, the grass is always greener to everyone. I know the SEC has had a great tournament record over the past 5 years and has a great record over the last 25 years. In fact, only one conference (ACC by 1) has more National Titles than the SEC. Every year they say the same garbage and the SEC kicks butt in tournament and the ACC rarely gets anyone out of the first weekend. Certainly no one not named UNC or Duke.

Written on Derek Dooley and fired assistants will cost UT an estimated $7.5 million:

The great Hamilton could not have ruined UT athletics better if he was getting a bonus to do so. His great fund raising was equivalent to the money the SEC got from TV deals. The reserve is gone. Revenue has dwindled due to his incompetency. This program is about 3rd best in the State behind Vandy and MTSU. All in all, a great career for Hamilton.

Written on Derek Dooley and fired assistants will cost UT an estimated $7.5 million:

in response to SevenT:

How much do they still owe Fulmer?

What a bunch of UT idiots!

I assume UT should be the only big time school that does not participate in buyouts. I see how coaches are lining up to work at this overrated football school with a delusional fan base as it is, be the only school without a buyout and you get high school coaches.

Again, Fulmer won the only legit National Title in this schools poor football history. They have a bogus one in 1951. He set the ceiling way high for these fans to appreciate. He should and will have a statue built for him.

He was given the buyout by Haslem. It was a $6 million buyout that was the same as the other bigger schools. Also a thank you for having the greatest run in school history. But Haslem wanted him gone so he did not break Neyland's record of beating up Maryville College, William & Mary and Chattanooga in the segregated days. He succeeded. Now UT is back to the 500 program it was before the Hall of Famer......and will stay there for decades to come.

Enjoy that change!!!!!

3. Jay does not think this staff can get it done. Fact.

4. Jones did not let them do what they needed to do to get that kid that went to Ohio State. He will figure out how the SEC game is played and he will regret not paying up. Jay knew his hands where tied. Fact.

As I have said, it will be decades before they can hope to win. It will never be to the Hall of Fame level we fired.

Written on John Adams: The next recruiting class for Butch Jones is crucial, and the clock is ticking :

in response to GoVols_16:

One major difference--Butch Jones can flat-out coach. I think when players see that then next year will be a different story recruiting wise.

Butch can flat out coach???? WOW! How do you know? Because he took over programs that where in place and had no expectations? OK. There is no evidence yet to suggest that he can coach much less flat out coach. You where probably saying "fire the Hall of Famer that made us relevant". "Hire the great recruiter from USC". "Get the country boy with the some what famous Dad". "Now Butch can flat out coach". I love the kool aid drinking lock step of optimism but dude, it will be decades and several other coaches before UT is relevant again. Lightening only happens at a place like UT once in a half century. It happened for 16 years this past century already. It might bounce back when they have complete turn over in every position of leadership and the coaching fraternity has retired and they start forgetting what UT did to a legend and one of their own. In the mean time "rock the 500 results". Thats all you got.

I told everyone this program's success was over when the "brain trust" fired Phillip. I was right. I told you we can only get a guy that needs a job since no name guys would go to a place that treats a Hall of Famer the way we did. We became a laughingstock with Lane. I told you we are down to someone that needs a break and it is over. That is when we got Dooley. I told you again, no one with a name wants this job. Leadership sucks. Expectations are fantasyland. No recruiting base. You have many in place that treated the most successful guy in school history bad. Face it, UT will be one of those programs with a big stadium and a 16 year era of big time football but they fell off the map never to return again. It is over. Have a tailgate, Vol walk and a smile. That is all that is left.

Written on A road map for getting back: Study shows Vols' fall from glory years:

UTC cannot win in 1AA with the best kids in the state. Just look at the numbers and you will see how many BCS level D1 signees come from the other SEC states vs. Tenn. Let that garbage go. UT won from 1990-2008 by taking players from other states that the big time in state schools wanted. You take about 5-7 in state kids on a good year and that is it.

Remember, they where the glory years becuase they where glory years. That is not the Tenn norm by any stretch. To ask anyone to duplicate the greatest era in UT football is just setting every coach that comes in here up to fail. Get it through those heads. IT WILL NEVER BE THAT WAY AGAIN AND CERTAINLY NOT FOR DECADES .......IF EVER.

Enjoy the change.

Written on Report: Dallas Cowboys ready to hire Derek Dooley :

in response to marVOLous:

That clause was only in the assistant coach's contracts. Dooley, being a lawyer, was much too clever for that.

actually the coordinators do not have that either. Of course, no head coach has a clause like that on any level in college. A buy out is standard operating procedure at every school in football and basketball. Of course many fans want to believe that UT is some holy grail place and everyone would come here and they would be the only coach in America to waive a buy out. DD's UT buy out has nothing to do with him being a lawyer. The stupidity of fans is amazing.

Written on UT study: Vols, Lady Vols impact on state $151 million per year :

So a UT commission with Lady Vol fans on this committee determines that a sport that losses money actually makes money for the community or state. Have they been on TV in the last month? Do they fill even 50% of the arena? Is anyone traveling to stay in hotels?

Remember, the BCS TV deal for all BCS games and the championship game, is $125 million per year. That is given to the conferences of participants. They estimate the new playoff format will be $250-$300 million. That is per year. The MEN'S NCAA tournament annual TV rights are $779 million. Again, $779 million. The TV ratings for the Final Four are double that of the BCS Championship game. The attendance and ticket prices are virtually the same for the Final Four Championship game and the BCS game.

But hey, them there Lady Vols generate $151 million for the state. Sorry, the numbers do not add up.
