Written on Tennessee WR Justin Hunter bound for NFL draft, while Ja'Wuan James says he'll be back :

in response to VFL_Troll_Patrol:

Well, I don't see this as much of a big deal as long as others stay. I say that because as happy for Hunter as I am, I still wasn't impressed by him this season (2012). He had so many dropped passes and ect. I think he is being smart by going into the NFL this year. Im happy for the guy, but I also have a feeling that he was worried that if he didn't leave now, he may not get another shot because of his "not so great but ok" season. Call me crazy I guess but I still feel like its good he is gone and now other players can step up in his place and show what they can do. Bottom line is, I don't see this as being a hurt on UT's 2013 season as long as Bray, Patterson and others stay one more year. GBO

*Im always watching*

Totally agree with you on dropped passes. He had a strange habit after catching the ball of coming back before turning upwind toward the goal line. In the pros he is going to get killed doing that twice. Recruit another Patterson and a good tight end or two and we will be ok. Bonus, we should have a defense this year, awol all last year. Sunseri really landed a peach of a job. Even Saban did not want him back!

Format of this article is horrible. It would have been nice if they put the pictures beside the bio, so we know who each person is.

I agree with you; this was the most ridiculous piece of journalism I have ever seen. Nice if they said what he was good at in college, good recruiter, why selected, especially all the ones from Cincinnati. Who is the defensive coordinator- by all estimates the most important hire. Can we get Wilcox back?

This hire is so much like when saban was hired at bama. Rich rodriguez said yes and then says no to the bama AD Mal More. Then the boosters step in and give Saban the keys to the kingdom complete control 32 guaranteed for over 8 years. He had told alabama no so many times.
look at the video

Maybe go back and offer gruden the keys to the kingdom and let it rip 5 mil a year 5 mil for the staff and complete control. What do we have to lose.

why gruden? what's he done to deserve this

If he hasn't given Hart an answer, he needs to pull the offer. Hart should not allow UT to be used to get a raise at Louisville. Give him a take it or leave it offer, and move on.

when will it dawn on hart and gruden groupies that the best coach out there is Bobby Petrino? Pull Strong's offer if hart is back in knoxville on his Pilot jet and offer Bobby. You will not regret it. You may have to get used to winning the big games- i bet he would have won in atlanta with the personnel georgia has

Written on Reports: UT has sights set on Charlie Strong; decision could come as early as Wednesday :

If it is Strong, I think that's a good hire... but I still believe it is Gruden and the AD is using the media as a smokescreen. Just my opinion (and yes, I know many will think I'm crazy - maybe I am lol)... No one will know for sure until Dave Hart has a press conference to announce the new coach. :)

what is it with this man-love of Gruden? Enough already!I would take Petrino any day, the man can coach and he does not have a $2MM buyout. funny, we have had the most time and are the last ones to the dance!

Written on Five Vols named AP All-SEC :

Hunter and Cobi Hamilton had the same yards/catch (Hunter actually .01 yards better), but even with only 73 catches Hunter had 9 TDs compared to Hamilton's 5 TDs with 90 catches.

Matthews doesn't have the yards per catch and only had 7 TDS, despite having more catches than Hunter.

Hunter had to share catches with Patterson, Rivera and Rogers (all in the top 20 in the conference for total receiving yards), while Hamilton's closest competitor at Arkansas is ranked #38 in the conference in yardage.

Hunter should have been a clear choice for first team.

you guys should be thrilled to have anyone in this list after the lousy season we had. How many real games did we win? How about the Commode door blowout? Get real! you must be the same guys pining for Gruden. And quit telling me about the baggage Petrino carries- he is a winner, nough said!

We have a very good Offensive Coor and staff. Why wouldn't Hart insist on keeping them. Had we played the 4-3 we could very well be where Ga or Fl are this year. Just get a good Def HC that will keep the Off. in tack. It also saves money. The other choice is make Chaney HC and make him get a good Def Coor.

second this motion! hart, enjoy the waldorf astoria, make chaney permanent hc- he is undefeated and get a good defensive coordinator. maybe wilcox will return now that dooley is gone?

Petrino is a no-brainer, IMO. Proven SEC contender. Contractual safeguards can be lmplemented. I'm glad this triple eight dude wasn't around when Mary Magdaline was washing Jesus's feet with her hair with wine. No telling how things would have ended up. College football is a BIG business. So if you’re running a for-profit business, your primary objective is to make money. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t selling 100,000 tickets to each home game the best way to make money? So run it like a business and hire the best possible coach available regardless of his reputation. Hire Petrino, he’s without question the best coach available.

GET CHARLIE STRONG!!!! Pay him close to what was reported for Gruden please!!! Charlie Strong will put Tennessee back into to top tier of the SEC like we belong!

Stong is not even on Auburn' top 3 list. Petrino is. here is what they say:

There are a few names being thrown around in Auburn’s search for a replacement for the recently fired Gene Chizik. The immediate future of Auburn football is resting on this decision; let’s let the school take its time and make the right choice this time around.

Gary Patterson, Kirby Smart, Bobby Petrino and Guz Malzahn are among the names being discussed, according to Charles Goldberg of AL.com.

Each of them has merits and downsides, and those will be talked about in the following breakdown.

Bobby Petrino, Former Head Coach, Arkansas

Petrino is the clear “big name” option of this group. He’s a proven winner, accumulating a 34-17 record in SEC play while coaching the Arkansas Razorbacks. That success isn’t all he’s accomplished, though.

While serving as Louisville’s head coach, Petrino amassed a 41-9 record. That shows he’s an accomplished and winning coach who can handle the pressure.

His name alone may bring about enough buzz to help the Tigers rebound in the recruiting battle with in-state rival Alabama. With that name also comes the scandal that cost him his job last year. Petrino admitted to adultery last year and was dismissed from Arkansas.

Hart, quit screwing around and hire Petrino before the Aubies do- we play them next year,Hart, you can relax in the Bull and Bear lounge in the Waldorf Astoria; they have some nice entertainment along Lexington Ave behind the Waldorf Astoria you know!

Petrino never beat Saban before..So, why would he now??

you said this before BB, do you think any of the other clowns we're looking at will? I think he has the best chance. Kiffin would have beaten him if he had continued to pass instead of trying a field goal.

We need a coach who was a former player. A coach with a winning record in the SEC, maybe even a National Championship on his resume. A coach that can recruit. Someone who will not leave the Vols and stay 5+ years. Someone who can recruit. A coach who can slap donors on the back. I wish someone like this was available! Perhaps he could bring as assistants:
Chavis - DC
Chaney - OC
Graham - RB coach
Dale Jones - LB
Pittman - OL
Tee Martin - coach QB
Trooper Taylor - WR coach

This is looking like the best option available.

i like all except trooper taylor who is an idiot who got Chizic fired, and himself fired.

you can structure a contract that makes it hard for him to leave. No you would rather have someone like maybe al golden who is 40-45. petrino will get hired in the sec probably at auburn and he will win.

Huntsville Times had Petrino's picture on the front page Friday as if he was a done deal for Auburn. When they beat our arse next year with Petrino you will remember, Hart quit worrying about The Waldorf Astoria and hire Petrino. He will beat Saban- hell Georgia had them beat!

All this Jimbo Fisher, Charlie Strong, Al Golden mumbo jumbo is going to get three guys raises at FSU, Louisville and Miami. We are running the risk of committing ritual suicide three times in four years. Kiffin was a desperation hire because offers were turned down. , Dooley was a double desparation hire because of the timing and a bushel basket of offers were turned down. If this happens again with these guys we are looking like the typhoid Mary of college football. That's why I say offer the job to someone who will absolutely take it. Hire Butch Davis and lock him up with conduct clauses insuring his ethical compliance. We need to make an offer to someone who can coach, recruit and won't turn us down or have his agent make a statement containing the word "fantasy." (I hope for LaMonte's sake he never needs any help out of Knoxville for anything. He'll play hell getting it) That person is Butch Davis. And by the way IMO he is the best hire available.

you can write a quit clause into the contract just like you do a contract clause. unfortunately Bozo Hamilton only had 800,000 in Kiffin's contract. it should be the same as the annual contract to leave!

At last this farce has ended. Gruden if coaching anywhere will be in the NFL next year. All was in fans minds, nothing ever meaningful exchanged among persons that make a difference.
Now as to a real head coach, based on their failures of a few years ago to secure a top candidate, I think they should go after Charlie Strong. He is the best guy available they have a shot at for the job. And he won't be if he is Auburn's target guy. They might beat out Arkansas for him. At this point UT has developed a negative stigma out there among coaches. Each think "the job wasn't good enough to accept for X or X, so why should I accept it. There are a few others but the talk of a Jimbo Fisher, Bob Stoops, etc, is more nonsense. As for Cutcliffe, are you kidding?

Petrino- Aubies have been talking about him since they fired Chizic, get him before Auburn does.

I am not suggesting that Fulmer return to Knoxville. I am suggesting that our next head coach is right in front of our very noses. His name is Jim Cheney, who has done a great job with the offense. He need only make a great hire for defensive coordinator, and that could be The Chief, now at LSU.

You deserve what you get- I have been raving about Petrino ever since Dooley got fired- he should have been fired after the Kentucky game last year-now I read in the Huntsville Times front page today "A family dilemma: Considering his transgressions, is Petrino the right man for the job?" Auburn will probably announce during half time of the SEC game that Petrino will be their coach and he will beat the SEC like a drum! Meanwhile everybody has been moaning about Gruden who sounds just like Kiffin! Go after a winner now before Auburn snags him. all he needs is a Harley. All transgressions can be put in a contract. Especially if he leaves early, make him pay for it, not like Kiffin- use your law department, they ought to know "coaches" laws.

If you are that dumb to not think he can immediately create buzz around this program then you must be from France. Just give me all your vol gear now and trust me I will pass it on to all the new vols fans that will come stand and wait in line for a chucky doll. I'm sick and tired of this mediocre program. I'm sure the big name boosters are too. I'm sick and tired of these punk kids running around here in my state rooting for Bama and Florida and anyone else. They don't know any better I understand but it makes me sick. If you ain't Tennessee I don't root for you in any game. I dont care if bama was fighting a war with Egypt I'm rooting for Egypt to win by 50. Bama fans make me sick. Fedora and Golden and all these no name idiots that are being put over the most sought after coach in the nation make me sick too. If he doesnt want to come so be it. I am rooting for him and UT all the way. O yea and all those people saying Gruden took Dungy's team to Super Bowl why don't you look at who he played against in that game if you got enough sense to know what that means then you got your answer. I'm ticked off and been emotionally invested in this team with a rag tag coaching staff. We deserve better. We have NFL talent on offense AND defense and those kids deserve better. So what we lacked spead. The product put out on the field was the low ranked coaches that mike hamilton and derek dooley hired and I'm tired of this junk.
