Written on Alabama plays like No. 1 to avoid softball sweep from Lady Vols:

in response to soitgoes12:

Except Weekley basically conceded this game. Alabama started their #1 pitcher... we started our #3.

Ditto

Written on Alabama plays like No. 1 to avoid softball sweep from Lady Vols:

The coaching reminded me of Les Miles coaching in the National Championship against Bama(confused, and nearly incompetent). As a coach to foster trust and confidence from your team in your coaching abilities you give your players every opprotunity to win every game. JMO but our coaches did not do that. I feel the players can sense that, especially if the fans can sense it. And they did. Bad decision and it was from the start. If you want a pitcher to gain experience thats what Fall ball is for and pre-season. Not against the #1 team in the nation. Coaches constantly ask and demand the players leave everything on the field. Coaches should be expected to do the same. You have to give your team a chance to win, or you will lose their trust and confidence quickly. A sweep would have provided us great momentum going into Florida series. I hope we didnt lose that momentum, but....it certainly took a hit with that performance yesterday, and it didnt have to happen. If the coaches would have "left it on the field" and the girls still lost.........then normally players can accept that. Its hard for them to accept poor coaching decisions and to not accept that responsibility. JMO

Written on John Adams: Vols should be California dreaming in football:

Say what you will. California has a boatload of skilled position players every year. Fulmer had to compete in Florida and didnt do as well there. He went west...and did well. Foster was not an unusual player in San Diego. USC and UCLA dont even have to get on an airplane to recruit. Tennessee recruited from the perifial(sp) areas around San Diego and SF/Oak/Sac and have done well historically. They can again. The Weekly's have embedded themselves there and have cultivated California consistently. Therefore softball coaches, parents and kids know Tennessee. Most of the girls from California on UT's team are also recrutied (hard) by PAC12....but decide to go to UT. Coaches and facilities are their biggest reasons why they come to UT...and they win.

Written on Lady Vols softball gets with 'The Program' to prepare for season :

This is a very exciting team from top to bottom. If you havent seen them you need to go. And if you long for the Big Orange winning you really need to go. Its baseball on crack, these girls can flat out play. Only thing is good luck getting a ticket.

Written on Lady Vols picked to finish first in SEC East in softball :

LOADED...........you wanna see a show in Knoxville this year this is it.

Written on Lady Vols ranked No. 6 in preseason softball poll :

Need both. Players on base, hitters to bring them in. They'll have both this year, need to stay healthy.

Written on UT ranks 13th in SEC in NCAA Graduation Success Rate :

If the girls can do it why cant the guys?? Across the board?? Same classes, same student athlete center, same tutors, same or worse travel schedule..........any ideas?

Written on Tennessee safety Brent Brewer can show he's starting material :

in response to licknpromise777#651578:

I'll believe it when I see it from Brewer..There's a reason he lost his job to a soph.; it's called talent!!One good thing is it's a lot easier to replace a safety than a starting CB..Much less pressure and responsibility. My worry is who will be directing assignments on the field which was Randolph's job and a very important one. With Randolph your losing the teams leading tackler and someone who rarely got beat for a big play..On the plus side in 3 years Brewer has played a lot of football and was a former starter but there is some drop off in talent..Sal really has his work cut out for him this week because the defense had tons of blown assignments last week and as we saw it only takes one to lead to a easy TD..The 3-4 defense has a lot of variations and takes time to perfect and on field adjustments and communications break downs are very costly..We have enough talent to make it work well but the defense is probably 4 weeks away from being mistake free..One things for sure!!!Come this time next year this will be one of the best defenses in the SEC especially if we can plug in a beast at Mike Linebacker..Looking forward to seeing McNeil getting increased playing time

I agree. I watched Brewer last year and was amazed at seeing him litteraly standing around on plays. My observation was that he had alot of talent and alot of tools. But he wasnt a "football" player. This year when watching him he is better. More agressive and it seems he actually is enjoying hitting people. Lets hope he picks it up and goes headhunting.

Written on Lauren Gibson helps U.S. make medal round:

.692.........?? I hope we are all taking note......if she hits like that in #4 or #5 in our lineup she'll have lots of RBI's. Trouble is SEC has LOTS of talented pitchers that overall she may not face in the Canada cup or world championship. Regardless she's wearing it out.

Written on UTPD: Cameron Clear was selling stolen items:

in response to rockypop:

I don't know about the backgrounds of anybody else on this board, but I can attest to knowing athletes in college who were so desperately poor, as to cause me to feel things I never imagined.

I was a scholarship athlete, and frankly I didn't need the money, because my parents had enough to send me through college.

I knew guys that took money from boosters because they absolutely needed it. And, I never thought another thing about it. I hope that Cam Clear is one of those guys, at least, that had a reason. That surely doesn't make what he did right, but it explains it.

He still deserves whatever punishment he gets, but maybe we can forgive him based on his circumstances. I hope so.

He stole from friends, and team mates. It wasnt because he was hungry, or needed clothes to stay warm. Not because he needed money to pay the rent on his apartment to put a roof over his kids heads. Not to even feed his kids, or feed himself. He stole things to sell them to make money. Up to $10,000.00 worth. That is not a situation in that I should feel sorry for him at all. He's decieptful, a liar, a cheat and he's hurt his family name and his parents. He's getting the least of what he deserves. No more.

Written on Great Awakening: How Title IX spurred change :

Season ticket holder for football, basketball and now women's Softball. I think in the end the argument has to be made that the opprotunities for women at a federally funded university have to be the same for men and women..period. If not you do not think that way then perhaps you can go live in AFG. I have renewed interest in all the programs since I think we have the right coaches. I will also tell you since this year I started going to softball games and am hooked. Easilly the most exciting sport on campus besides football (live). As far as attendance is concerned how many fans were turned away at basketball games or baseball games this year, I would venture to say none. In the end remember its about educational opprotunities and our children deserve everything they get....without exclusion of race, gender, ethnic background or religion. Thats America.

Written on Alabama wins NCAA women's softball title:

What an odd bird RTR is. Congrats to the tide and the SEC, well deserved. BTW every post he has posted I copied and pasted on Tidenation, I am sure they'll love his representation of their program and state. Its too bad some tide fans are doing a disservice to the program. Its like the new rich........you should act like you've been there before. RTR....Wareagle baby!!

Written on Lady Vols' WCWS problems began with first inning:

Need to do some homework here folks. Tennessee DOES have power hitters. Shipman, Davin, Gibson, and Chevanne are all power hitters. But here's the thing....you gotta hit. All these girls can hit the long ball, at the end of the day no matter what TYPE of hitter you have you still have to hit. If all you do is recruit a big hitter then thats what you get. Shipman for instance is a big hitter who can also play defense and is fast. Its not the physical issue of not having big hitters....its the mental game of hitting, period. We have the talent, but I cant explain why we didnt hit either. It's Seems like the harder they tried the worse it got. Thats VERY typical of very intelligent, gifted athletes. Over analyzing and overthinking can kill a hitter. You're going to get struck out. How you handle it is another thing. Elite athletes take slumps personal. They have to have a very short memory and dont need to be around negativity all the time. I garrantee you the girls on this team take every loss and strike out very personal. As do the coaches. Some of the things a coach has to do is lead, comfort and protect the players and their "ego's". Not just coach baseball/softball. However and especially at big programs like Tennessee I am sure coaches are under enormous pressure to produce. That pressure at some point has to bleed over to the team, and thats when the wheels can come off the track. Its an extremely difficult balancing act, especially in any diamond sport (Baseball/Softball).

Written on Mike Strange: Little plays carry Lady Vols to Oklahoma City :

This team is why we wear Orange. Why we go no matter what to the games. They also are the saviours of a fanbase currently worn out from hard times in the athletic Dept. There were tears of joy in living rooms across the nation for big orange alum and tears in the stands for all the loyal devoted Tennessee faithful. These girls are truly winners and I want to thank them for carrying the big organge banner back to the top. Thanks to Shelby, Kat, Holly, and Ashley for being the leaders they are and being a great senior class. You have set the bar high. Thank you.

Written on John Adams: Lady Vols win regional and bring back memories :

The Tennessee softball team is class all the way. From the girls, coaching and even support staff they definately represent the University in a manner any alumni or current student would be proud of. And if you ever get to a game you'll see the fans adore them. With all the recent turmoil at the University this team has provided our big orange heart's with pride. And as John mentioned the athletes on this team are amazing. The Weekly's continue to recruit and grab the attention and dreams of girls from around the country and world. Go Vols!! Whoop them dogs!

Written on Lady Vols sweep Virginia Tech to advance to Super Regionals :

Hey Greatest Its called On base percentage. Thats what wins games. RBI's are made from OBP with in the line up and add two sluggers and you get runs. Runs win games. HR's only win if you have runners on base.
