Sarkisian (watch your spelling) was OC only AFTER Kiffin left. And he turned down the Raiders job because he really wanted to become a college head coach. Can you really say that Kiffin was dumb, given the $2 mil/year he has earned (even if Davis is trying not to pay him) and the fact that he is now a college head coach at $2 mil/year?

Yeah, right.

Besides - you didn't really think we would consider Randy Sanders, did you?

On Kiffin wastes no time

Cameron was the stud of the day...but the high five of Bertelkamp was hilarious and uncalled for at the the same time!

On Tatum is Vols' shooting star

If Monte Kiffin does not come over, I hope Chavis is retained. He will likely be the best available on the board for DC.

On Kiffin must hit ground running for recruits

Posted on November 29 at 3:11 a.m.

adamlee,

You make it sound as if he only recruited from CA. Instead, during his two years as Recruiting Coordinator, USC had freshmen commits from GA, LA, FL, IL, NM, HI, and a few other places. The man can recruit nationally. The same goes for Orgeron.

UT's biggest selling point was the fact that we had more players in the NFL than virtually anyone. Now (assuming we also get the elder Kiffin, Orgeron, and maybe even Callahan), we can say that we have more NFL coaching/scouting experience on our staff than darn near anyone else in the NCAA. Got talent? Come on over to the NFL farm team, boys!

On Handoff to Lane Kiffin; announcement likely Monday

Drayton should be fired anyway.

Quick, what unit was the biggest non-factor in Florida's offense last year? Running backs. What unit is perhaps the biggest underachiever on the entire UT team? Running backs. (OK, you can make a case for the OLine and the QB as well, so this is a slight stretch).

What is the common denominator in both cases? Drayton as coach.

Folks, he just ain't that good. AND now he's talking recruits out of coming here? Put his butt on a bus going back to Gainesville now...see if they want the double agent back.

On UT's commitments will wait, see

Is it just me, or do any of you check this site nowadays expecting to see the scheduled time of Mike Hamilton's press conference?

Do any of you really think that Jon Gruden would not be able to seal the deal if he walked in a recruit's room with his legendary intensity, a Chucky-like stare, and a Super Bowl ring on his finger? Do you really think that a head coach that famously only needs 3-4 hours of sleep would not be able to mold a great football team? Do you think any of these players would DARE not giving their all, knowing you would have to face coach on the spot?

I don't think we will ever be able to field a package to convince him to come here (unless the Bucs fire him, which is less likely since he is winning), but I have a hard time believing he would not do well here.

On Fulmer's future at UT? No word yet

Why would anyone want to coach in the SEC? One word: ego.

All of these guys (at least the ones worth their pay) have healthy egos that they can do anything short of walking on water and would love the opportunity to prove it. Where else than in the same conference with 4 of the 10 BCS champions, an 11-4 BCS overall record (higher % than anyone else, second to the BigTen in appearances), 6 coaches with national titles (7 if you count Bobby Johnson) and 4 others that can really coach (including Richt), and the national respect as the best conference in the land?

If you're too chicken to throw your name in the hat here, I don't want you anyway.

* Phil's salary over the next 6 years averages $2.9M, so new coach's salary of $4M is a net increase of 1.1M, part of which is paid by Adidas and others. ($6.6M over 6yrs)
* Buyout of ~6M is paid over four years, so first year impact is $1.5M.
*Staff salary should be a wash.
* Buyout for new coach: $0 if chosen well, i.e. Lane Kiffin, Jon Gruden, Terry Bowden (just kidding on that one -- I'd rather make Chavis head coach before any of the Bowden clan)

All in all, the net impact to the university over 6 years should be about $12.6M plus about $2M to buyout staff. Not including portions attributable to outside sponsors, that is under $2.5M/year. Increase season ticket prices by $5 and it is covered.

Ohmigod - I just realized what season this reminds me of. This reminds me of the 2007 Notre Dame season when they won 3 games. Only THEY beat UCLA.

The only good thing about continuing to get beat is that HOPEFULLY every loss brings us closer to replacing the staff, at least that's what we HOPE will happen.

Now Auburn is going to be pi__ed off after losing to LSU this week. Yuck.

On Florida has easy time with stumbling Vols, 30-6
