Here's the problem. We are rapidly sinking to the bottom of the basketball heap. We will be there by the end of this season. No good high school player will want to come to Tennessee. We were in the elite when BP was here. We have hired a coach who is in over his head. A nice guy but not competent to coach in the SEC. Once we sink to the bottom it will be hard to ever rise again. Martin's basketball philosophy is outdated.

What is the solution?

Since you seem to know everything about basketball, why dont you buy out Martin and apply for the job. You obviously think you can so a better job.

Certainly was a one sided called game, especially in the first half. Why does Martin not challenge the referees as all other coaches do during the game?
For once, I would like to see Martin run the baseline, or even get a technical!
This was a great opportunity for Tennessee to have won in Rupp. Unfortunately, poor coaching results in poor performance.
Well, let's hope that Hart is looking for a new basketball coach for next year.

You know...it's funny because I distinctly remember you defending Dooley who put up worse numbers than Franklin in his second year.

So, when Dooley loses he's still a great coach and we just need to give him time.

When Franklin wins he's still not a good coach despite taking one of the wost teams in America and getting them to 9 wins in a season in two years.

I'm a UT grad and I appreciate great coaching (rather than the mediocre drivel that most Vol fans seem content to swallow). What Franklin has done at Vandy is AMAZING. If you don't at least acknowledge that, you're willfully ignorant. Also, I was at the Music City Bowl and you're statement that Vandy got outplayed by NC State "in every phase" is just WRONG.

Dooley's gone. Give it a rest!

This stuff goes on all of the time, the coaches could care a less about the fans. UK ducked Louisville for years and the governor intervened and made them play each other, now UK and Indiana duck one another. Pastner's comments were that as long as I'm coach are key, he could very well be replaced this year or next, he has a top 5 recruiting class and has an RPI of 101 and will have to win the conference tournament to make the NCAA's again.

Its "couldnt care less."

Coach Dooley had a job in the athletic department. He also had a negotiated contract to fulfill the duties of that position that was granted by the Administrator of the Department. He fulfilled his obligations. He is deserving of any remittances due.

If redress is owed, look to Mikey that fired Phil, hired Lame, gave him an escape clause, advised Bruce to not be precise with the NCAA, publicly stated his demise before our 1st round game against Michigan, negotiated all the contracts where the University pays for his mistakes and walked off with his own personal buyout. Those are the true crimes that we continue to pay with our contributions and our hearts.

I agree with the others that say they could have cared less if he accepted or not. I do find it funny that he quotes his commitment to his players and later in the article mentions he watched one of his two sons play basketball.
Kind of makes me wonder what type of man he truly is. Would rather not judge but no matter the relationship with the mother, I would want to be part of my children's lives.
Hard to do that in California.
Anyway, let's hire someone who wants to be here and move on.

For the record, none of you a----les have any idea what Martin's family situation is or what type of situation he has in LA. Best to let the man make up his own mind how to handle his family.

Martin has a better opportunity to be successful courting 5 star players for USC than 3 star players we seem destined for at UT.

I don't blame him a bit for doing what is best for his career and likely best for his family.

This whole offer just reeked of a PR move from the beginning anyway. Martin was turned down not once, but twice by this school when he moved from New Mexico to Kentucky and when Baggett saw the impending Dooley disaster. Hart could have pushed for Martin like he did his boy Sal when Dooley had most of his staff walk out after 2011 but we saw how that worked out and where Alabama Dave's allegiances are.

Good luck to Tee. He brought a lot of good memories to this program and this doesn't tarnish them in the least.

Frankly, the last three head coaches for this school have been completely worthless in their own ways in terms of developing a sense of loyalty to this program amongst players and fans.

Fulmer thought he was a CEO more than a coach and felt he was bullet proof and above interactions with the players. Hence, we got the Fulmer Cup in his latter years and more arrests than all SEC players for the better part of a decade. Players in NFL games naming their high schools instead of UT. Ask Anthony Herrera and scores of other players what they think of Fulmer.

Kiffin was a mercenary who chased his dream job instead of sticking out his commitment to UT. Thankfully, he wasn't around long enough to inflict serious damage. He will never develop any type of chemistry or "family" atmosphere with his teams. He is too absorbed with his own image to do so.

Dooley was an arrogant, self-serving coach whose self opinions far outweighed any actually ability he had to coach or connect with the players. The complete lack of interest or support from the team upon his firing said all anyone needs to know about the guy.

With those three guys leading the way, it's amazing any of these players feel loyalty to the program. Hopefully Jones can buck the trend.

John Majors also thought he was CEO and Majors thought he was bulletproof. Two of the reasons he was fired.

I look at my wife of 38 years and see a lovely lady, who was a director of human resource for a prominent company, and see a lady who doesn't remember what she did 24 hours ago. She is only 62 and has had Alzheimer's for about 5 years. Doctor said she might not see pass 65. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease. I wish the Summitt family well and congratulate Tyler.

Im watching my mom go through this. Shes 93 but it hurts to see what becomes of them whether age 92 or 62.

Coach Jones is really doing a great job from what I can see of getting the most out of what he has the time to accomplish, heck he has staff still coaching a bowl game
