Majors' sphincter used to squeeze shut during Bama week-he never could beat them.
Phil's sphincter squeezed shut during Florida week and then whenever he had to play St.Steve.
Fact is,nobody could prick Phil like visor boy.
Hope our new visor boy is not another Mike Shula;quarterback, great coache's son, coached in the pros, first head coaching job comes at a major SEC school.Too many parallels.Time to fire Hamilton and put Phil in the AD job.

G-gun's comments point to the oft noted lack of discipline on the team.If the players cannot speak as a unit, they need to not speak at all.Fulmer is of course responsible for the discipline and he is well known for mollycoddling his stars and giving umpteen chances.Lack of discipline on Fulmer's teams goes way back-it is not a new thing.
A talk like G-gun's under the Meyer,Saban or Spurrier regime would have his little a** riding pine or riding off to the sunset in a hurry.

On Receiver Jones hopes Hamilton makes a good hire

Here's the deal.
Crompton thought he was the reincarnation of Heath Shuler, only better. His daddy got PhatPhil to agree on that and the Cromptons spent many weekends with the Fulmers at the lodge in Maryville. So yes,Crompton is a Phil favorite.Truth be known,he is as dumb as Heath, has a rocket arm like Heath whether he is throwing five yards or fifty. The boy, like Heath has no velocity control and the one hoppers are the only way to slow the ball down on a ten yard pass.
Sounds like BJ is is in the mold of an Ainge or Manning;tall and able to stand up in the pocket and find a receiver and get it there. If he does play,I think it does blow his redshirt so that may be logic.
I have no idea what the problem is with Stephens. He clearly can throw better than Crompton and seems to manage the game better.Peyton threw plenty of picks when he was here and still does in the NFL-that's life.
Then again,Phil was never known for his field coaching ability.

On Crompton to start against Vanderbilt

Hope your logic is right but somehow,I have difficulty because PhatPhil isn't that smart.
I think he is just being typical bull-headed and playing his favorites. That is why he got fired.
I just happened to read the September 08 Cityview Magazine with Phil on the cover. It's the preseason issue and it is good for a few laughs considering how the season has gone.

On Crompton to start against Vanderbilt

The NFL coaches are paid better than their college counterparts and they don't have to recruit and deal with high school kids who are as fickle as the wind.Their job security is about the same as a college coach. Those that are successful in the NFL stay there. Those aren't come back to college.
It's really hard to look in the crystal ball at this point. No coach is going to come out at this point. We've still got three-four weeks of college ball left. When the regular season ends the carousel begins.
Sit still and wait or keep it interesting and speculate all you want.Who knows?

This is a good storyline for the Vandy people.Vandy beats UT to become bowl eligible for the first time in I don't know how many years.
If the Vols play the way they did against Wyoming, this will be a rout for Vandy, regardless of how bad their offense is.
For once this game might be sold out in the favor of the black and gold instead of the usual orange.

On Vandy game set for 12:30 p.m.

Here's the deal:
We all love and respect Coach Fulmer.Nobody bleeds more orange and nobody has given more of his life to UT than Fulmer.
All that aside, there is a matter of a downhill slide in the last 8-9 years. We are not winning the big games and we are squeaking by in the "little" games. The stats will prove that out.In addition, the fans are voting with their feet and the money is not coming in like it used to.
What happened in the last few games and when there are literally as many Bama fans in the stands as orange was the straw that broke the camel's back. The only way the bleeding was going to stop is to make a change.
The decision to make that change was not Hamilton's.He does not have that kind of clout. If he did,it would have been done two years ago.Haslam made the decision and is probably funding the buyout.Phil has been in Haslam's pocket from the get go.So don't be suprised to see this scenario;Phil will be a goodwill ambassador for the Athletic department this year.Hamilton will hire the next coach, who will likely fall on his face.Hamilton will get the blame and the hook and Phil will step in as AD.
The bottom line was that fan confidence in Phil was shot and the concessions and donations were going way down.If you wait until the end of the season,it gets worse because you know that Hamilton has been casting feelers since about the Georgia game.If you wait til the end of the season, you lose out on recruiting because of the delay in hiring.Or if Hamilton has somebody, you have a Johnny Majors problem. So the only way to avoid that is to make the cut public now and have somebody in by end of the year.
Don't feel that bad for Phil. That is why the "CEO" gets paid the big bucks and gets the golden parachute. It goes with the territory that is the upper echelon of Division 1.Also, don't be suprised if the next hire falls flat. It's happening everywhere else except Florida and Bama right now.

On Mike Hamilton letter to UT alumni concerning Fulmer's situation

Having Heywood ask Phil questions about football is about the same as having Vickie ask her husband.Nothing but softballs. This is a waste of time, its not even journalism.
Does Laura Bush sit in the White House press room and lob questions at W?

It is true that CPF put up good numbers in his first 10 years. It's the last 7 the people are not happy about. There has been a downward trend in quality of personnel.CPF's track record against the upper echelon has fallen badly and when was the last time we finished in the top 10?
Even Bobby Bowden who's a legend needs to go as any FSU fan will tell you.

On Tide's Cody to miss UT game

It ain't gonna make a difference. The tide has plenty mo big boys lined up and ready to play.Cody took two or three people to block. Our O-line couldn't block NIU or MSU.So what's the diff?
