Well, another close one. I thought that the vols got outcoached in this one and they seemed to play tenative and "not to lose" rather than "to win". Others have noted that the vols have difficulty in a slow down game and I agree with that analysis. There is still difficulty in finishing around the basket and if it were not for Tyler Smith's contributions today, the vols would probably have been on the losing end. The Washington Post has been publishing a weekly "seeding the field" each week and has the vols as the #1 seed in the East region, North Carolina #1 in the Midwest, Memphis #1 in the South and UCLA as #1 in the West. The Post also has Texas as #2, Louisville as #3 along with Connecticut, Purdue, Michigan State, Gonzaga and Arkansas in the East.

I'm a diehard Tenn. fan in Northern Virginia and officiated collegiate basketball for 20 years and you just have to be realistic in acknowledging that this team just commits too many fouls and a lot of them are unnecessary and just plain dumb. It appears to me that they can't play defense without fouling and early in the 2nd half last night they committed 4 fouls in less than a minute. Tight in your face defense is great but play it without all the grabbing and body bumps. If Pearl doesn't get this under control soon, it's going to cost them when playing somebody that can hit free throws. 27 fouls last night and I would bet that the majority of them didn't involve a shot being taken by State.

Tennessee played a "not to lose game" against Kentucky instead of a "play to win" game. There is no inside game on offense other than go inside and instead of finishing it for two points, they would rather kick it back out for a high risk three and especially when the score is close. Too much showmanship on offense and just stupid fouls being committed on defense. Kentucky just physically whipped the Vols the entire game and it was quickly apparent that the Vols didn't have the stomach to battle inside and on the boards. If this continues, possibly Sweet Sixteen, small chance at the Elite Eight, but no Final Four. Maybe they just expect teams to roll over now because of their ranking.

I'm not going to say that Ainge lost the game, but he certainly contributed to it. He's not a first round NFL pick and proved it today. He played the way he played his sophomore year and when he had to step up, he couldn't. Cutcliffe should apologize to all Vol fans for the sorry job he did today. It just seems to me that there hasn't been much of a structured offensive game plan for any game this season. Apparently his plan is "let's run a few plays and then pass a few plays (14 in a row at KY)and score early and then just forget about the rest of the game until we're behind. I said a few weeks ago that Ole Miss knew what they were doing when he was dismissed and I think that the second half of this season certainly proved it. Too bad about today because they certainly could have won today.

Absolutely amazing!!! I had gotten so disgusted that I was headed outside to rake leaves when the "roughing the kicker" call came. When Cutcliff calls a game like that, I think that Ole Miss was smarter than we give them credit for when they made the decision to let him go. Why he gives up on the run so quick is anyone's guess. The Vols can run the ball if he will just let them. And what is Fulmer doing when such a bad game is called? Nothing.

Running the table would be very good, but frankly, I can't see it happening with Chavis in charge of the defense. If you were looking at him on the sideline during Saturday's game, it was obvious that he didn't have a clue as to what was happening in the 2nd half. UT should have lost that game based on the way they played or better yet were not coached. I don't particularly care for Spurrier but UT lucked out Saturday.

Should Fuller be fired. Probably so, but not for his coaching abilities. You don't establish the record that he has without having some ability. Rather his weakness is his loyalty to his staff, which is basically a group of underperformers. Everyone on the defensive side should be replaced and that should start with Chavis on Monday. Tennessee hasn't had a defense in years and Fullmer hasn't taken any action to remedy it. You've got to feel sorry for the players, because Tennessee has very good talent, good enough to win the conference but the defensive coaches let them down time after time. If it wasn't for Cutcliff, I'm not sure that the record wouldn't be 0-6 now. Chavis should have been shown the door several years ago. And Cutcliff, 3rd and 2 yards to go and you call a pass!!! Some of that defensive intelligence rubbing off on you? Can Hamilton pull another "Pearl rabbit" out of the hat for the football program?
5 and 6 or 6 and 5 became a lot more clearer after today.

Prince did an ok job at the point for his first game. He'll get better. The "Gentleman Jack" at the end of the game never tasted better.
