Hiring a Gator to replace a Vol? Many will be howling about that, but Graham left on his own and Gillespie is like most of us – he will be loyal to the paycheck.

Written on UT tells students not to paint Rock to welcome recruits:

in response to bhjohnso#207063:

Well, recruits at every other school can also get their names chanted at basketball games, but as the article mentioned, most other schools don't have something like the rock, so therein lies the discrepancy.

I understand it happens at other schools. That is what I was talking about. And it happens more with basketball players at basketball games. Read this thread about a junior PG who committed to UNC recently. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=78&...

Written on UT tells students not to paint Rock to welcome recruits:

So when recruits have their names chanted by students and others at basketball games, do they have the offenders have their mouths tapes shut? No difference between that and the Rock.

Written on Free throws key, but nothing came easy in Lady Vols' OT win over Florida:

My wife, our 17-year-old, and I went to the game, as we live near Orlando (behind enemy lines). It was a little too close for my comfort. When we went up 51-42 in the second half, I thought we would put some distance between us and Florida, but we couldn't. We didn't shoot well and Florida did. Part of it was letting the ball get down on the low block and they had relatively easy shots from there. Bottom line is we hit the FT late and they didn't and that was the difference. It was a SEC road win against a decent team on a day when we didn't play our best. Just a note: Out of the 2,609 in attendance, I am thinking about 800-900 were Big Orange fans! #GBO #VFL

Written on Doug Dickey's task in 1964 similar to Butch Jones' in 2013 :

We live in the Orlando area, and my family and I went to a UT-UF women's basketball game 3-4 years ago in Gainesville. I saw Doug Dickey there a few rows behind me. I stopped to shake his hand and just say hello. He was wearing a UT shirt. That said a lot to me about his long-term loyalty.

Written on No superheroes in UT's backfield:

in response to slb#1351874:

BR-549 listen closely. Tom Smith is a great kid from Apopka, Florida who will knock your weenie stiff on the football field if he is healthy.
Graham will see his abilities and give the kid the opporunity to prove what we in Apopka fla. know for a fact.

Nice to see another Big Orange fan from Apopka! There are a few of us!

Written on Nikki Caldwell gives birth to girl :

All the best to VFL Nikki Caldwell. I realize there may be a little bit of purple and gold in her blood right now, but I know that it would return to its rightful color of Big Orange if she is brought home as women's basketball coach following Pat Summit's final game as coach.

Written on Mike Strange: Martin deserving of honor, but Calipari hard to ignore :

GreerVol, you are NOT the only one who hurls at even the thought of Calipari, but if the kittens go 16-0 in the SEC, that's pretty special. But, I would vote for Cuonzo Martin, obviously. He's done a pretty special job himself. GBO!!!

Written on Former players give Pat Summitt collection of letters :

What an incredibly great idea and something so very special to do for Pat Summit. She is truly a Tennessee treasure, one who can never be duplicated.

Written on Govols247: Howard announces decision :

I live amongst the gators near Orlando where Pig Howard played high school football and have seen him three times over the past two seasons. The young man can play. I see him as a slot receiver for the Vols and could even see him in the wildcat package. In the games I have seen him play live, he had a TD and more than 200 yards receiving in one game; had a TD rushing and one passing in another game; and had a passing TD, rushing TD, and punt return for a TD in the other game. In other words, you want the ball in the kid's hands. He is a playmaker!

Written on Pat Summitt says 'I've got a game plan':

All the best to the best coach ever, Pat Summit, and the Lady Vols!

He resigned due to philosophical disagreements with T.K. Wetherell. It was well documented for those who, you know, can actually read.

As far as the matter of the story goes, I agree with the move of getting rid of divisional play in basketball.

That should be dissenting vote.

Such a sad situation. If Bruce had just admitted to NCAA investigators that the stupid cookout (minor violation) was at his house, none of this would have happened/be happening/will happen. Ugh... Just sickening because he lied to the NCAA.

Written on Mike Strange: Names change, motivation remains :

"Exactly how much was Tennessee looking forward to playing teams like UT Martin or College of Charleston?

Or Oakland or Belmont? Or anyone since Pittsburgh?"

How about when you put on the uniform is when you look forward to playing? I understand human emotions and how it's much easier to get excited about playing some opponents, but take pride in yourself and the uniform by playing at a relatively high level every time the ref tosses the ball.

Written on Former Vol Jamal Lewis is handing out Christmas trees in Atlanta:

in response to winbigvols:

I spoke to Jamal last Saturday after the Kentucky game. I'm sure he was at the game to see Tee Martin and see if the Vols could keep the streak going. He was a beast for the Vols and was under used by Fulmer. One of the greatest Vols ever.

I'm sure the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the JFK assassination, and the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald are all Fulmer's fault, as well.
.
Good grief, why do some people refuse to give the man his due for winning 152 games at UT? I guess everyone on the 1998 team, from the lowest walk-on to the highest assistant coach deserve credit for the national championship, but not Phillip Fulmer.
.
Why do people constantly takes cheap shots at him? It's ridiculous.

Written on Vols in college basketball poll? It depends on AP voters :

I would bet dollars to doughnuts that neither Tallent nor Lockridge knew that the Vols beat Villanova. It was a holiday weekend and the game was played on Friday at 5 pm. That doesn't excuse their voting, but it probably comes from them not paying attention to results before sending in their ballots. Bottom line is that polls don't matter in college basketball.

Written on Former Vol Harry Galbreath, 45, dies:

Written on Chism's fond farewell :

Wayne Chism is such a special man and player. Love his toughness, competitiveness and desire to get better in all areas of his life.

Written on Manning: Give Dooley time :

They just don't get better than Peyton Manning. Love that guy. Well, in a football, university-related sort of way.

Written on UT's new commitments impressed by coaching staff :

The Vols got a good one in Tom Smith. I know him personally and he is a hard runner and a good kid. I think he will fit the UT offense perfectly.

Written on Running back Tom Smith picks UT, says coaching staff 'amazing':

I know Tom Smith personally as a UT man here behind enemy lines. He's a big, bruising running back and he runs incredibly hard. He rushed for nearly 2,500 yards and 34 TDs combined as a sophomore and junior. His team was 22-5 over those seasons playing in Florida's biggest classification. Despite his toughness as a runner, he's got soft hands and can catch the ball out of the backfield. I really think Tom Smith will fit in well with UT's offense. I am very excited about his commitment.

Written on KPD: Vols’ Darren Myles was drunk, combative, removed from club:

Not what you want, but not the strangest event to ever happen... a college kid getting drunk and acting stupid. Not condoning it, but I seem to remember having one too many way back in the day at UTK, but I wasn't a star safety and, no, I didn't ride on the roof of a car, either. Make him run a bunch of stadium steps for two weeks straight in the heat of a Knoxvegas summer. That should run the alcohol right out of him.

Written on Strange: Agonizing, but for Vols another step in right direction :

It's Monday and I'm still hurting, but I am also so very proud of this team. I am so incredibly proud of Wayne Chism. I want to hug his big neck and thank him for his never-ending efforts to lead this team and for his four years of becoming one of my favorite Volunteers of all time. Thank you, Wayne, for all you've done.

Written on Game times for Friday SEC tournament games:

Folks, when there are four games at one site in one day, guess what? There will be games starting in the early afternoon and ending about midnight. This shouldn't be a hard concept to grasp. It's just that our game happened to be in the afternoon.

Written on 5 Big Things: To beat Alabama:

Written on The game isn't over yet for Vols' Brown:

Written on Kentucky puts support behind Calipari:

Written on Media groups protest SEC credential policy:

Written on NCAA investigating Brown's eligibility:

High school football teams all over the nation raise funds for summer camps. And some of them have those funds donated by a community member who just wants to help the kids out. There are going to be a lot of ineligible college players if that is not kosher per the NCAA.
