The rankings are at greatly influenced by performance at camps and how much of the camp information gets disseminated. The other mitigating factor is where players will play in college and pros versus high school.
This guy appears to have average speed for a MLB. Not bad but average. But that would be very good speed for a DE.
Jarrod Mayo was an average RB in high school. Fulmer and Chavis saw something in him that said LB.
There was a very average high school TE we recuited in the early 90s (soory I forget his name. We redshirted him and then moved him to DE. By his third year, he bulked up and was moved to DT. He was drafted in the second (I think) round.
The star ratings are important, but only go so far.
What I watch is whether Fulmer is getting the players he wants because he usually wants the right players. Even his worst detractors would have to admit that Fulmer has a good eye for talent, as well as closing the deal.
Our recent talent problems has not been in recruiting. Our problem has been a rise in back door losses through grades and disciplinary issues.
Check out the number number of players still on the team from the No. 1 recruiting class of Winter 2005 (Crompton, et. al.). That is why our talent level is up and why we are only starting 3 sophomores, while FL starts 10 and UGA starts 8.
It is also why we could only sign 18 players last year, and partially explains why we had a "down year".

Hey what's the problem with Bama starting freshmen?
Florida is starting 10 sophomores, and UGA is starting 8.
And both of them will win the national championship in the same year.

I think we are all looking at this wrong.
I don't see how Alabama or its fans benefit from these events at all. Remember Alabama jettisoned this booster a long time ago because he had caused them a lot of trouble.
My guess is that this guy is as upset with Alabama as he is with the NCAA. I am not sure that he is all that upset with Fulmer, but as a disgruntled fan, there certainly is no love lost.
Personally, I hope Fulmer is deposed. And I hope Spurrier is also because he was probably the first one to turn them in - according to Spurrier. I means all the deposition will do is highlight Bama's infractions. All Fulmer and Spurrier did was follow the rules which require them to report suspected infractions.
But here is one last thing that I need help from you guys.
Didn't SABAN also report Bama at the time? That is at least my recollection. If it is true, well wouldn't that be fine kettle of fish?

Anyone who demands another defensive line with a Henderson and a Haynesworth is delusional. If a program is really, really good and really, really lucky, that will hapen once every 20-30 years.

Underlying all this is an issue repeatedly discussed on this site. Football players are humans who have legal rights. Beyond legal issues, the internet is just one more means of communications and social interaction. The internet and its anonymity are a not a "Get Out of Jail for Free" card for decency.
It is one thing to say a college kid played terribly in a game and needs to be replaced. Or to say a coach should be fired. That all comes with the turf. It is quite another to verbally rip a kid to shreds who is having personal problems. And it is cowardly and disgusting to take those shots at a kid from the anonymity of the internet.
That behavior is cowardly and disgusting in all other forms of communications and is equally so on the internet.
Some Husker in Texas is finding out that sometimes out of control behavior can even become criminal.

The "drivel" is you denegrating Chris Low. Chris is a top-notch sports reporter who consistently delivered news about UT not found elsewhere. When he offers opinions about teams he covers, allways calls them as he sees them.

Usually a 5-star recruit has the physical tools but might blow the mental aspect. But some kids just don't get the visibility via multiple camps and so forth to get on the radar of recruiting services. So they might be "only" a 3 or 4 star recruit before they sign with the home state school.
The other thing I have seen is that if multiple big name schools start looking at a kid, then other big name schools start approaching him. The whole thing snowballs and the ratings start going up. Suddenly a 3 star recruit is a 4 because "everybody wanted him".
Then look at the pro draft. These guys have unlimited access and testing, and they get to pick who they want in their slot. Look at how many busts there are there.
Frankly, I am shocked that the colleges do as well as they do.

Just some more gutless people making comments behind their fake internet names. Does anyone believe these people would be as insulting in person as they are on the net?
Hundreds, and maybe thousands, of people read this site. My guess is that virtually everyone who has read this story has judged Little as harshly as he appears to judge himself. I cannot remember anyone suggesting Little get off free. He went through the legal system, criminal and civil, and has paid what was required of him.
But of the hundereds, thousands of people who read this story and reach a similar conclusion, only a handful need to use the anonymity of the net to take a free shot at someone. That is because they are gutless cowards in life, and this is the only way they can act like men.
At least Little has repented of his sins. These jackasses go on and on.

Let's see, UGA starts 8 sophomores, including 4 on the OL. Oh yes, that has NC written all over it.
But then FL starts 10 sophomores, including 3 on OL, 2 on DL and 2 DBs. Oh and just about everyone on second team is either a sophomore or freshman with little no experience. So when injuries happe, Florida become even more young and inexperienced. Everyone says they have problems on DL and in the secondary. Yes sir. That is a No. 5 team all right.
Auburn starts 8 sophomores, including 3 on OL and the QB. But they look to have a great defense and good home field advantage. I can't argue with 11 except it might be too low.
Poor old LSU starts just 3 sophomores, not counting QB. QB might go to a freshman or a transfer from Harvard. They have Auburn on the road. QB play in the LSU/Auburn game will be huge for the west. No. 6 sounds right, depending on QB situation.
By the way, UT starts 2, maybe three sophomores. That includes Berry.
On Vols ranked 18th in coaches' preseason poll; Georgia is No. 1
