What's the story on Hunter? Last I heard, he had very little interest in playing for Tennessee.

Vut56, explain to me how you can justify handing a degree to a person that didn't earn it, or can't even read? "Athletes usually show higher graduation rates than the student body" simply because of the additional "help" available to them. The average college student cannot receive the academic benefits that are available to the average college athlete. Personal advisers, special classes, personal tutors, and lighter class schedules are all provided to these athletes. If an athlete is struggling academically, there is a huge support system that will rush to his/her aid, in order keep them eligible. In many cases, an athlete simply has to show up for class and he/she is guaranteed a passing grade. As a whole (although there are exceptions), athletes in major collegiate sports (football and basketball, for example) do not major in molecular genetics, engineering, pre-law, etc. They "study" psychology, sociology, sports management, etc. If your average college students were offered these same benefits, their graduation rates would obviously be much higher.

It was nice to see the Vols pound those Gators last night. I disagree with Pearl about the hard foul on Prince "warranting an ejection," but an intentional foul was the correct call. This team seems to respond very well anytime a technical is issued against them. We've seen it a couple of times this season when Pearl has been "T"-ed up.

It's official. Rivals.com reports that Wells has chosen Ohio State.

Probably true, except for the small fact that Brandon Stewart wasn't any good to begin with.

What SEC fans forget is that South Carolina lead the 2002 Outback Bowl 28-0 with less than a minute left in the 3rd quarter. Ohio State scored 28 unanswered points, but threw an interception with 5 seconds left that was returned by South Carolina deep into OSU territory. The Gamecocks made the ensuing field goal to win.

The Vols lack of inside game scares me. This team has excellent shooters and an excellent backcourt, but they don't have the big men who can score/rebound. They don't need to be jacking up 50 3-pointers a night either. This team must find a balance between shooting 3's and penetrating. Once they are able to recruit that missing puzzle piece, I think Tennessee can make an NCAA title run.

Maybe he will be converted into a safety? Even if he bulks up, he will be an undersized linebacker at this level, even if he plays OLB.

“We went (into the game) and were going to do without him,” Cutcliffe said, “until there were circumstances that you may have to have him.” Regardless of the outcome of a game, I would rather see a coach stick to his guns and carry out a punishment, rather than change his mind just because his team was struggling and might lose. I know that Fulmer isn't the only coach who has faced that decision, but still, win or loss, you can't just make the decision based on how your team is playing during the game. Excellent article by the way.
