I think it's time to quit using Phil Fulmer as the justification for hiring Kiffen. I agree it was time for a change, but Kiffen has to win some games and he hasn't done squat yet. Everyone will be excited about next year, but we should temper our expectations. I can live with 11-1!

He hired a number of very competent people, it's just that the real good ones always leave for better opportunities. He made some poor hires recently, it seems. Mark Richt coached for Bobby Bowden. He left for Georgia and Bowden is still working on getting back to the upper echelon of teams. The Head Coach deserves the credit and blame for hiring his staff.

Thanks for the memories, Chief. You'll be missed...by most.
All the best to you and your family.

As a UT grad living in the Orlando area, reading about the Gators, Noles, and Canes, I believe that Urban Meyer will be gone from Fl in two years..maybe sooner if he wins the NC this year. He's young and the NFL will surely come calling. Not to mention that he has stated that his 'dream job' is Notre Dame. He likes challenges and they're out there!

Nice read, Marvin. Phil Fulmer is a class act. Always has been. I read an interesting article in the Orlando paper today (I live in the area)about whether or not there could be another Joe Paterno or Bobby Bowden in today's college football. With $3 million contracts and '10+ wins or else' edicts, five years will be a long run in the future. We will miss Phil Fulmer. I, too, hope he will represent UT in some fashion. Though it was your time to go, Coach, you will not be forgotten. All the best. Thanks for the memories.

I respect your logic. Awhile back, I looked at Joe Paterno's record from 2000-2007 compared to PF. Joe had four losing seasons and a 57% win record. He's now back on the winning track. PF has a 70% win record and one losing season during that same time. I think history will show he was a very good coach. To those who think Cutcliff carried him, I would say congrats to PF for hiring a great coach. If Clawson was a bad hire, he gets the blame for that. It's all a moot point now. In the end, you have to beat Florida, Bama, and Georgia or you're gone! Paterno is an institution, Phil was not. Right now, I'll take a win over Vandy.

Agreed. The only thing Vandy should beat UT at is 'Jeopardy'.

Over 40+ years of following the Vols, I do not recall Vandy ever being favored at all. But, if Tenn can complete 50% of their passes this week we have a chance. But, based on our results this year, I doubt it. Still can't believe the completion rate??

Hamilton will not name a coach until at least after Phil Fulmer day at the Kentucky game. This article is really, really, stupid. Just because Adams (and others) can't figure out who it's going to be, he's acting like a kid before Christmas!

Don't forget Bill Battle. But....that didn't work out. Don't start kissing his *** too quickly.
On Adams: Plenty of kid coaches have tasted success
