ut_volfan,

I'm sure you know much more about the character of this young man than I do. However (and will all due respect) this was not just a "typical fight":

"Jackson was knocked unconscious and suffered a concussion and "blowout fracture," a serious injury to the bone around the eye that might require surgery, Jackson said late Wednesday afternoon, soon after an Athens-Clarke County Magistrate Court judge signed warrants for Lemon's arrest."

This victim was hit repeatedly (the police report says 5-6 times). You are right about one thing, the court of public opinion should not be what determines this young man's fate. I'm sure the facts will come to light.

One thing is for certain, the pain of the victim is never lessened by the circumstances of the perpetrator.

askUncleMaze,
I'm not implying you said Knox folks were "bad people"...if I came off that way, I apologize as it was not my intention. I'm sure you know a lot about your nephew...I have no doubt about that whatsoever. However, no matter how much we know our loved ones....we never know it all.

As I suggested earlier, maybe Bmaze would be interested in coming on the site and giving some feedback. There are a lot of us that are very happy he is a Vol, myself included. Will he post?

pdhuff,

I agree that UT football isn't where most fans feel it was in the past. However, the game is a game of inches and close plays. Going back to 98, how many "close one's" did the Vols have? A miracle 4th down penalty for UT that led to a last second FG at Syracuse, a missed FG by Florida in OT, a fumble by Arkansas Clint, a 5th string QB starting for FS in the NC game.....etc.

My point is that wins aren't always pretty..but it's the "w's" that get it done. UT won ugly at some point. The D often went to sleep...but the O picked them up. Smoke and mirrors or not, the Vols were in the SECCG last season. This team will be much improved IMO. Time will tell I suppose.

ut_volfan,

Although I agree 100% that people shouldn't make comments about things they don't know, but the fact that he went to a private school and his mother was killed has nothing to do with him $ucker punching someone for "talking" to his girlfriend. Private school or not, it didn't seem to help him.

I don't know how you know this young man, but would you think he would do what he was charged with doing? I know you lived in his town, but that doesn't say much unless you knew him personally.

givehim,

Again, good points. Lets clarify up front that John Adams is not a journalist...he is a columnist. So, I suppose he has room to post his opinion more freely. However, as I've stated before...with being able to share your opinion in an open forum, comes the responsibility to be held accountable to what you've written...something I don't feel Adam's has done.

I've heard Adams on the radio and also in person at Kingston Alley on multiple occasions....he's never really shone in that light IMO.

Can't remember an article that made such an impact either.

CPF is a university employee. State/University employee's have performance reviews yearly and are eligible for up to a 3% raise per year (least that's what it was when I worked for UT through 03).

Move along...nothing to see here.

Gerry,

I think you've missed my point altogether.

I've seen how Adam's has conducted himself post "article" and it has not been ethical IMO. The comment about the EPPY was to point out that it APPEARS he is not concerned with the people he writes to or about since it has clearly been mentioned specifically in articles since.

I agree with you 100%...to ME life is also more important than anything John Adams could say. But...you've voiced on this board that people should "get over it" and "move on". Maybe to them, they aren't ready to move on...or don't want to. To each their own I suppose.

Point taken about enjoying life, which I do. Love that fact that I can take a day off in the middle of the week myself to (hopefully soon) go get a hair cut and mow some grass.
