Another embarrassing saga...
But you just gotta love the comment about his dog having a better chance catching a car driving down the interstate! That is pretty cute, and so true!
in response to UT_Braddah: Okay all of you classless, immature brats, go ahead and let us know what candidates you will find acceptable, so that the University can make sure you're happy with the hire. Because God knows, if you disagree with the hire the "culture of negativity" will only continue. Because, of course, you know exactly who should and should not coach this team. I love Dooley, and know he's a good man. But I agree he had to go. But some of you bums show absolutely no class or compassion for a GOOD MAN who took the job that none of your dream coaches would take, gave it his all, suffered some of the worst luck and toughest schedule imaginable, and demonstrated true character that you LACK and will never have. YOU have damaged this program with your classless negativity. What coach with other job opportunities would come here? What players with other opportunities will come here? My rant ain't about Dooley...he needed to go. I think he'll spend a few years as an assistant and then reemerge as a very attractive HC candidate. My post is about YOU...bunch of weak, classless, heartless, whining, ungrateful, unrealistic, spoiled, know-it-all, quitters.

Amen! I agree a change was in order. I kept hoping my mind would be changed. I think Dooley is a great guy, and I think he made strides. Game management just seemed so lacking. I hope we hear of Dooley doing great things in the future. He is a class act. Folks who were instantly against him do nothing except damage our attractiveness to.future coaches and recruits.
I agree w/ volpreacher. Recruiting class rankings are no predictor of future success. Our '08 class was 3rd in the NATION, not the SEC. Look how well that turned out! Dooley is a class act, and I think he will win. If Martin is anywhere near as good as him, we did GREAT!
Give the guy a chance! I think it is unrealistic for us to make the tourney next year whoever we hired. Williams, Goins, Fields, and most likely Hopson and Harris are gone. Think about what's left. I just hope our two commits are more impressed than the folks on this board, and that they don't read it!

Mean Joe Greene was in his 7th season playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers by the time North Texas State beat our at-the-time lowly Vols in 1975.
in response to randyarnold: Lack of attendance at Neyland Stadium this year, falling below an average of 100,000 for the year, is the reason UT is going to Atlanta rather than Tampa. This only emphasizes what a joke the bowl system has become - where matchups and records don't matter, only the dollars a team can produce.

I agree with tnman45. I used to be against a playoff system. I think controversy (and the fact that every game is VERY IMPORTANT) is good for college football. But if bowls are going to pick teams based primarily on travel numbers, they're going to eventually sign their own death warrant. Before long, folks will stop caring, and that will lead to a playoff system.
in response to AllVol1: I gotta say that I was so happy when Andy Kelly graduated from UT. Like Crompton, he loved the Orange and White, but he was not a real gameday QB. I was so hopeful when I watched the WKU game. At this point, though, I am looking forward to Crompton being gone. He and the receivers just don't have consistent chemistry. As for CLK, I am truly mystified why we have not even tried a few series with Stephens. For a coach who emphasized how much competition would help everyone on the team, I am surprised to see that his philosophy has completely reversed during the season. Apparently, once you earn the starting spot as QB, it is yours forever no matter what. Granted CLK knows much more than this fan. Nevertheless, the obstinate refusal to give Stephens some real PT is frustrating. However, I give the new coach some time to get his system in place and recruit his kind of players. I want to see dramatic improvement by the 2011 season. Otherwise, I just would not feel right about spending 4 hours watching this kind of stuff. I know some Vols fans say that that is what makes a fair weather fan. Say what you will. We all have to make choices with the time we have, how we use it, who we spend it with. If UT football has not improved by then, it is a simple matter of priority. What we are watching right now is hardly even mediocre. I just want to see some improvement on the field.

Wow...I was just thinking tonight how much I would have loved to see Andy Kelly at QB again. Do you remember his record? We went 11-1 in 1989 (his first year playing as a sophomore after the Sterling Hinton fiasco), and went on to win the Sugar Bowl in 1991. We were never out of it with him at the helm...a good leader even if he didn't have all the natural abilities. I'll never forget the Miracle at South Bend, an Andy Kelly classic! Get real!
How could JP Prince be named MVP? Turned the ball over repeatedly. Missed what would have been the tying free throw. Both teams deserved to lose. When you have 2 opportunities to have the winning possession and fail to get off a shot??? That is pathetic.
The officiating was, indeed, a debacle. But, so was our offense, and outside of the red zone, so was our defense. What a butt-kicking we just took! It is truly discouraging when we can't get more than one yard rushing. And our O-line is the strength of the team?
I think the fact that we can't even fill the stadium for FLORIDA speaks volumes as to where this team is and the direction it is heading.
Wow...I know it's getting bad when I don't even care any more. It is unbelievable how sloppy we have become. At least basketball season is only 3 mos away. If only I hadn't bought tickets to the SC and KY games. What a waste of perfectly good money...
Unbelievable. It appears no matter what we do well (running the ball tonight), we insist on doing the other (in this case passing). 2nd and 1, 2nd and 4, 2nd and 5...not one running play. And...not one successful pass play. Is is more important to be balanced, or to win? Why was Foster back in the game after he cost us yet another win. He only fumbles at the most critical of times! With nothing on the line, no fumbles. I honestly wonder if he's on the take. Hardesty was awesome tonight. What a shame we didn't let him win it for us.
I'm not sure I'll miss Chris at tourney time. He seemed to struggle every year. Maybe he pressed a bit, thought he needed to carry the team (which, apparently, he did!) He is a class act, though, and one of the greatest Vol basketball players ever.
well...i'm thinking defeat, not elite...
31-5. More like a Lady Vols' record...
Football season is becoming merely basketball recruiting season!
go wky
wow...you know it's good when you don't even get to see the finish...
I think the biggest problem tonight happened about 2 mins in when Chism got his second stupid foul. Both totally unnecessary. He has been a non-factor because of this. We needed him to step up...especially with Lofton leaving the building before he arrived.
I have a hard time blaming Pearl for 20% shooting, or whatever it is, and much worse from 3
louisville shoujld just foul ramar every single time he touches the ball. What a pitiful free-throw shooter! He SUX!
just let ramar drive to the hoop every play. if they foul him, we'll get half a point per trip.
i wish prince would foul out
don't forget our stellar ft shooting...
Well...I guess we'll still have the elite 8 to look forward to. Any doubt Pearl will eventually get us there? It has been a GREAT season. It's a shame they end it with their worst game of the year. One of Lofton's worst in his career.
we just can't do it
But...we immediately foul
This reminds me of Chamique Holdsclaw's last game...
We need a run...it's slipping away...
It's a shame Chris quit before the tourney.
Pearl is a great coach, but Prince is an awful point guard. Why does he insist on driving past the end line, then jumping up and hoping he can find someone before he comes down? Pitiful.
Man...what happened when we went up by 9 there toward the end. We immediately started fouling like there was no tomorrow. Arkansas was unconscious from the free throw line, which is where they beat us.
And, as usual, missed FT's
Wow...statistically not Lofton's best game, but he sure came through in the clutch!
I agree with the posters suggesting Childress should sit. You can count on him for several stupid fouls and shots every game. He does not belong in the lineup against the better teams we play. Now that Crews is cleared to play, maybe we'll soon see the end of him.
UNBELIVABLY poor judgment. And this guy is a senior? This really does remind you of his sophomore year. We had this chamoionship in our hands, and he threw it away.
OK. Ainge was determined to lose it, and he just did. TD to LSU, then a wasted series, then another INT. I'm glad to see the end of the Ainge era coming.
I agree w/ justis809. Ainge gets credit for this one if we can't pull out a miracle. Here's to miracles!
Our receiver corps is back to '05 form. GAME OVER!
Why can he not complete a pass on 3rd down? This is ridiculous.
Erik returns to form against LSU. TD...wrong team.
I agree. No execution. Players cannot get open, and the line can't run block. Bad combination for an offense!
Pitiful D on 4th down. This is pitiful.
I cannot undestand how we can't get a receiver open (ever!) on 3rd down, yet we routinely give up first downs (and touchdowns) on 3rd and long. 3rd and 16, and we give up a 27 yard TD. We need some playmakers on O.
0 for 8 passing on 3rd down. Becoming a pattern, week after week.
We'd be up by 7 if we could make our FG's
Why the gimmick with Crompton? Wasted down.
Our offensive line cannot run block to save their lives. Why have we been unable to run for the last 5 years?
