The Athletics Department does make generous contributions that benefit the university's academics. That wasn't my point. In the current economic environment, I don't think Pat Summitt expects a big raise to keep up with a program she surpasses in every measure.

If you want to pay Fulmer 3 or 4 million, go ahead, but if you don't, he isn't likely to go anywhere. So unless you have money to burn, why would you?

Pat deserves the money she is paid, but this should NOT result in UT trying to keep her above Geno. It is a business. But the truth is, the Lady Vol basketball program does not generate enough revenue to justify getting into a pay race. It costs less to live here, and who in the world wants to move UP THERE?

Pat is a legend. She is paid very well. She can live like royalty on her salary in East Tennessee. She is settled here and I don't think we have to pay her a dollar more than Geno to keep her.

You pay Pearl because if you don't, someone will take him away from here. That isn't as big a concern with Pat, and even less with Phil. In the environment where the school is looking at eliminating staff and maybe whole departments, I don't think Pat wants a huge raise.

yep, powert, I do think that helps the ol' free throw and 3-point percentages. But the girls' hands aren't as big as the fellas' hands, so you can see why.

On Parker is second player to dunk in WNBA game

Tennessee will need plenty of depth in the defensive backfields, because our d-line won't be able to slow anyone down, much less stop them. A 180-pound guy can only hit those 210 to 230-pound backs so many times before he needs a blow.

Football games are still won or lost in the trenches and I don't see us matching up very well with the big boys in the SEC.

Last time I looked, Pearl kicked Memphis butt all over their own gym, and with 0 blue chip players. Guess what Memphis? We got better players now, a much better coach and you're coming up here to get stomped!

When you play in the cream puff league it's easy to be a 1-seed. Cal can't handle real competition. He coached Tiger High right out of a national title. What a waste of money after all those NBA players you guys bought.

On Maze, Pigram put on shooting show

Good that he runs a dink and dunk offense in high school. Unless Clawson changes things, that's what he will run in college -- if he makes it up the depth chart.

Looks like a good kid, so why not give him a shot? If he doesn't pan out, well, everyone needs 3 QBs.

Ever notice that basketball incites passion in the off-season now, when just a few years ago people were counting the days to kickoff?

Hell's bells, Mr. Lund… we got to find them boys and sign 'em to a big fat contract! If we don't do it, the competition will.

mparker, the only problem with that is that many kids should get more appreciation than they do for other skills besides sports. Maybe folks don't pay $100 to see math majors do their thing, but in the long run, their skills do matter.

People pay a lot to see porn too. In fact, that and Al Gore are why God gave us the Internet, from what I hear.
