Based simply on achievement, Donovan is without question tops among coaches in the SEC, and it's no big surprise the Kentucky was drooling after last season to have him become their head coach. I have nothing but respect for the job he's done at UF.

The fact the BD hasn't won SEC coach of the year is meaningless, because this award is not given to whoever has done the best job in the conference. It's given to the coach who exceeds expectations with a team that wasn't picked to do well before the season began. Accordingly, BD not winning this award the past couple of years is no sign of disrespect toward either Florida or its coach.

The Gators will be an outstanding team and compete for titles, though not this season. They're simply too young, and as everyone knows road games are tough for teams dominated by freshman and sophs. Then again, who knows what might happen tonight? After all, the Vols beat the national championship Gators 3 out of the last 4.

airforcenone=just another blowhard, message board imbecile, who enjoys talking trash and putting his single digit IQ on display for all to see.

I personally know a half dozen people who reside in Kentucky and who live and work with loads of UK fans, and they make very clear that Kentucky fans consider us to be a huge rivalry. So, I can assure the folks here that airforcenone speaks only for himself and needs to stick with his playstation rather than displaying his ignorance for all the world to see.

Dearstone is the as$hat of all as$hats. Do you think maybe Pearl knows a bit more about coaching than as$hat Dearstone and all the coach wannabes on this board and elsewhere who spout nothing but nonsense?

Bruce Pearl at UT: 64-21, 75.3% won; overall: 381-105, 78.4% won

Tigervol9802, if you don't want to see the occasional boneheaded play, then I'd say your best bet is to follow teams like UCLA, Georgetown or Wisconsin.

Pearl's style of play is to allow players tremendous freedom to make on the fly decisions on the court, and he knows that the occasional poor decision just goes along with the intensity and freedom that he gives his players. While I know Pearl would prefer our guys to always make well-thought out, solid moves, our pressing, fast-paced game is at times not conducive to such decisions.

I also think Pearl is well aware that we're going to win a lot more than lose with his style, occasional bonehead play and all. And I'm willing to bet neither he nor our players are going to change:

Pearl: at UT: 64-21, 75.3% won; overall: 381-105, 78.4% won

QC: Thanks for your post!

Sometimes, I think a lot of the ignorant UT men's hoops fans, who are primarily football fans, would prefer a return to the style of Don Devoe type robot ball: keep a tight leash on the players and reign them in!

Bonehead plays and all, I'll take Pearl and his 75% winning record at UT (64-21) and 78% winning record overall (381-105). Maybe, just maybe Pearl has a better handle on how to get our team to win than do some of the many coaching wannabes on this board.

On Strange: It was highlight reel (no gag) for JaJuan Smith

For Mike Strange:

Concerning free throws, there's no question we have players who need to shoot a higher percentage. However, our free throw percentage for individual games this season is related to the tempo (pace or speed) of the game.

For the four highest pace games we've played this season, our free throw percentage overall has been 53%. For the four slowest pace games we've played this season, our free throw percentage overall has been 75%. I statistically analyzed our free throw percentages as related to game pace for our entire season, and the statistically significant conclusion is that as the speed of our games increases, our free throw percentage falls. As game speed slows, our percentage goes up.

Credit for this idea goes to your cohort, Mike Griffith, who suggested that we just get tired due to our style of play, and this affects our free throw shooting. I just analyzed the numbers.

Pearl, so much talent. It's like five teams, instead of a team of five. The honeymoons over buddy.

Did you really expect us to go through the season undefeated?

Last season, Florida has what will come to be regarded as one of the great all-time teams of college basketball. Four of their players were first round NBA draft picks. As good as that team was, and they were hardly challenged in the NCAAT, they still lost three games during the regular season.

Dkerr, if you really believe that this UT team has talent equal to that of Florida last season, then I would suggest you don't watch much college basketball. Very few teams visit Rupp Arena and come away with wins. Moreover, UK's talent level is not that far below ours and at some positions, notably inside, is superior.

The loss to Kentucky will not be the last this season for our Vols. We, like most teams, are simply not good enough to win every game we play, but that doesn't mean we're not very, very good and are led by one of the best coaches in the game.

Yes, if players are just punished hard and often enough, they will produce. Simple as that. Just get under the hood and fix the problem.

On Vols pair off for intense scrimmage

Seems to me like all the disgruntled football fans are now posting on our basketball boards, are know-nothings concerning roundball, and would prefer our team run an offensive style like Buzz had us doing.

I guess the Legion of the Miserable will always be with us.

On Rough win on road
