Written on Butch Jones stays on message as Vols sing his praises at SEC Media Days:

About the only thing I saw wrong with the article was this comment:

Richardson praised Dooley as a “good coach,” but resolved that the days of losing to Vandy were over.

Written on Mike Strange: Will SEC have Tennessee to kick around again?:

in response to FearTheVols1252:

The whole ‘riding Kelly’s coattails’ doesn’t really cut it. When Jones came to Cinci following Kelly, he had to replace all of Kelly’s top performers. With the amount of production he lost, his first season wasn’t great… only going 4-8. However, the 2011 season he went 10-3 (capping the season with a win over your precious Commodores) and followed that up in 2012 with a 9-3 record.

While we get to discuss football at SEC Media Days and our top rated recruiting class, it appears your ‘proclaimed’ (since that seems to be your favorite word) real coach will be dodging questions pertaining to your new crop of thugs.

Yank ‘er down!

But sadly Jones was one of the very few coaches to lose to a Dooley team...:o(

I have seen better coaching by high school coaches, better ball playing by jr. high players and there is no excuse for it. FIRE Martin and bring back Bruce. With the cheating the NCAA is allowing (Like St. Mary's) and the NCAA allowing them to play in the big dance, why doesn't Hart bring Bruce back. At least more people would show up for a game. How does the NCAA say that TN is one of the top ten money makers with a season like this. WHO is spending he money? CHEEK, HART, MARTIN?

Hart will not bring Pearl back because Pearl is a liar who almost cost us a death penalty

in response to COLUMBIA_TN_VOL:

The Bell situation reveals exactly what I feared upon hearing Butch Jones was our new Head Coach: He is better than Dooley ( who isn't? ) but still not good enough. Coach Jones may be able to get us back to a bottom of the Top 25 level of success but not back to the elite level. It's too bad Mike Hamilton wasted all of the athletic department's money with his over the top renovations to Neyland and Thompson Boling but wasn't smart enough to leave any reserve $ to hire competent, SEC level coaches (also reference Coach Martin and the disaster basketball has become). If we keep piling up humiliating losses in football and basketball those Taj Mahal type facilities will prove to be nothing more than white elephants.

Just an observation: Is Jones indeed better than Dooley? Dooley's squad crushed his squad a couple years ago

Written on Bruce Pearl: Don't end Vols-Tigers:

I would love to see Bruce Pearl get a second chance at reviving the UT Mens Basketball program. The electricity and the way the game was played was in the mix of one of the top 25 programs.

I cannot stand the direction Martin has taken and chooses to play. 35 to 48 points avg per game is sad. Defense does win, however, the approach to the game he has taken is horrible. Quality leader in terms of producing quality men. However, this is not what VOL Nation wants to see. It is all we seen in the 80s and 90s. CRANK IT UP MARTIN!

Come on Dave, the show cause for Pearl ends this year....please table him for the 2014 season!

Yes, Bruce brought excitement, but he also can no longer be trusted. There is no way in he!! UT would bring him back as coach. The NCAA would be all over us

No offense, but if I were Butch Jones I would have made sure that Jimmy Cheek and Dave Hart were no where near that interview with Tee Martin today or whenever it was. Also, I'd have a back up plan if I were Jones. As a matter of fact, you might want to have 4 or 5. We have a very respectable track record of being turned down by coaches.

I, like another poster earlier, do not understand the fascination with Tee Martin. He was an average QB who lucked into a NC when Arkansas handed it to us. He also was being looked at by the NCAA for accepting money from a donor, but Fulmer turned Alabama in for violations to get the heat off

And for all you folks that keep calling Jones=Dooley 2.0 I got news for ya. This guy has at least won in a BCS conference, not 4-7 in the WAC.

Don't cheat Dooley out of a loss. He was 4-8

Written on As Tennessee resets coaching search, Cincinnati's Butch Jones appears to be target :

in response to DukeDeLuca2:

Okay. My time.

1) Three months ago, we pulled a big upset over Jones and Cincinnati at Neyland Stadium. Dooley basically coached Jones' pants off. Perhaps that made us too optimistic for the rest of 2012, I don't know. But here's the question:

Leaving the stadium that day, if you were told that you could have Jones instead of Dooley for the rest of the rebuilding project at UT, would you have applauded?

A simple yes or no to the question will do.

2) Did we really fire Derek Dooley for this?

3) I haven't been for bringing Phil Fulmer back. Not because I don't think he's a GREAT coach! HE IS! Not because I don't think he would win. HE WOULD! I'm not in favor of bringing him back because our fans are too danged dumb to accept it. Our fans want someone young and pretty.

Butch Jones couldn't hold Phil Fulmer's jockstrap.

4) You can start the hoo-rah later. Can you really look at yourself in the mirror and say this is an improvement? Don't throw numbers at me - Cincinnati doesn't play in the SEC. Do you really think this is a forward move, a backward move, or a lateral move?

Duke, Fulmer couldn't beat the big names as he was .325 versus the top 25 his last 6 years. Saban, Spurrier, Richt, Miles, Muschamp, and even James Franklin would love us to rehire Fulmer, they would call us their cupcake. Get over Fulmer, his day is done and has been since Cutcliff left.

That being said, we agree on one point: This hire is at best a lateral ,move from Dooley

I'm with you on that... We can have Jack Del Rio we can have the offensive or defensive coordinator of Green Bay We can have Eric Mangini The defensive coordinator for Pittsburgh Steelers The offense of coordinators for the New England Patriots.... And the list goes on and on..... but East Tennessee did not recognize the NFL....so we will be with 2.0 ..heck we could even have Sean Payton for 5 bills but UT is too stupid... Dave hart is a nobody loser that's what you get when you get Florida Gators and Alabama bags running the show... just like Arkansas you gotta ask to know... went big... scored big

This is not the hire I would have liked to seen, but I would venture that Jones may be more successful at TN than the "Big 10" coach is at Arky. Big 10 coaches can't beat the SEC

Written on Vols' search for Dooley replacement continues:

in response to mikkim:

The trustees need to meet post-search to deal with the total ineptitude of both Cheek and Hart. Why would an Athletic Director ever be hired at a University that had an impending coach on the bubble who had never conducted a big-time college search before? Additionally, allowing him to move forward without the services of a search firm was unthinkable. The fact is Dave Hart has shown arrogance and poor judgement in many of his decisions and as for Cheek, "the fish rots from the head". This is no longer about a football coach, this is now about two individuals that continue to inflict embarrassment on a great university. The result of Hart's short tenure has been equal to that of the Hamilton's incompetence...2 lawsuits, the mangling of the dismissal of Pat Summit, and the slow trigger on Dooley with no real plan to replace him. Not to mention the wonderful sales job he has done at the Dooley news conference basically informing the world the the athletic department was basically broke. Is it any wonder why he can't close a deal.

Hamilton used a search firm, and they found Dooley. How did that work out for you?

Written on Should Tennessee consider re-hiring Phillip Fulmer?:

in response to pcorange:

How do you know he hasn't been offered a job? You don't know that. He said when he was forced out here that he would consider coaching again if it were the right opportunity at a place he felt like he would have what he needed to win. He may have had opportunities that none of us know about. Not every university airs its dirty laundry out in the press the way UT does.

He let it be known that he was interested in 2 or 3 jobs, but they wouldn't even give him an interview. That is fact

Written on Charlie Strong: "Toughest decision I've had to make" to turn down UT:

Then who do you hire since you are of a great football mind???? 151-52-1 thats pretty impressive to me and once again you make better staff choices. You need to go away as you are sitting on a message board with me and not coaching anywhere I see either nor are they asking for your opinion. We always had backs who could run and a D that was not an embarrassment and integrity, and someone who LOVED to be here just got to comfortable. There is NOBODY out there dude, nobody.

Fulmer won with Majors' coaches. As they started to leave you see what happened. We do not need an old washed up coach to try and rebuild this program. The program was handed to Fulmer in pretty good shape, this time, the SEC foes would eat him alive

I don't know who was on Florida's list at the time, but very few coaches are going to leave their job after only one year. I doubt many ADs even consider a first-year coach, unless he has previous head coaching experience and he bleeds whatever color they are.

I can appreciate you calling me a Doolaid drinker, because that's what you call everybody who had more patience than you did. You are a shoot first, then ask questions kind of person. We can only hope you are also a start walking across the street, then look kind of person too. Somebody like you, who has no credibility with anybody but yourself and your little lover toddy, saying I have no credibility really hurts.......not!

The biggest differences between you and me, aside from you being a total d-bag, is that you give nobody a chance, and you have never said one positive thing about anybody involved with the Vols football program, and you actually think you make a difference.

BTW, you still haven't answered the question. You're too busy trying to shift the focus by insulting people. I have only pity for you.
