Win between the hedges Vols! I have to watch the game with my two brothers-in-law, both Dawgs fans, one of whom played there! Yeah, I married a Georgia girl--very good move on my part except once a year when Tennessee plays Georgia!:-)

I'm eternally optimistic. Surely the Vols will play their best game and save me! I'll be outnumbered about 15-to-1 in front of a big-screen TV. Go Vols!

On SEC matchups for Saturday

The one thing Fulmer has that Johnny apparently never had was class and compassion. Fulmer took over because virtually everyone wanted him to when Johnny kept embarrassing himself and the university. Better coach better man. Those who disparage Fulmer should remember that we could get another Johnny. We all respect what Johnny did as a player and a coach at Pitt. But after that, he went downhill fast. From what I understand and have read, the problem apparently was too much bottle, though I have never seen it myself, so I can't say for sure. But I have seen his lack of class and this incident in Alabama is just another in a long list of those offenses.

I think this weekend at Georgia is where we turn it around. Georgia's defense is not as dominant at Auburn's. I have to be optimistic, I've been roped into watching Saturday's game with my two brothers-in-law, both of whom are big Georgia fans and one whom played there. (Yeah, I married a Georgia girl, but I'm a native Tennessean and my blood still runs deep Orange!) If ever I needed the Vols, I need them this weekend! Get by Georgia and we still can put together a decent season. The quarterback problem seems to be solved and the offense hopefully will jell, especially if Fulmer does as he says and gets Hardesty and Creer more carries. This weekend is the time! Go Vols!

On Tuberville: Auburn still searching for answers

Good post. I think most so-called fans on this board who are out to get Fulmer need to consult a dictionary and look up the word "parity". The days of the really big boys and everyone else are over. Southern Cal and Ohio State, who the media always anoint as giants at the beginning of the season can't get by people they used to stomp regularly. Alabama and LSU have good coaches, but they don't have the level of domination in players they once did. The days of undefeated national champions are rapidly being added to the dust bin of history as the rule-makers have established the "parity" they wanted. It isn't that coaching has passed Fulmer, it is that the system has passed those who expect to see powerhouses and patsies every week. The powerhouses have been brought down and the patsies elevated. Get used to it!

Go Vandy! Win 'em all except for 11/22! Go Vols this weekend with a new (hopefully better) quarterback.

On Vanderbilt is on SEC's big stage vs. Auburn

Glad to see Adams acknowledging something all died-in-the wool Tennessee fans should know. Defense is the name of the game. Gen. Neyland started that tradition. Think of all the "flashy" non-stopable offenses that have come and gone: single wing (also Neyland's), T, Wishbone, 'Fun and Gun,' though I'm not sure the last one deserves to be called a widely adopted offense. Now, everyone keeps saying the "Spread" is unstoppable. As Adams points out, it seems defenses already have caught up with that one. The traditional SEC philosophy is load up the defense and have just enough offense to punch it in when the defense puts you in the right position. Fulmer knows the game and the tradition, and we're almost there. Our defense did it's job against Auburn, the offense just couldn't do the "punching in" part. Maybe Stephens will add enough of a spark to get it in, especially when the defense/kicking game gives you six or seven chances on the opposition's end of the field. Go Vols! Lets turn this season around, we have one of the best defenses we've had in awhile! We just need a little more punch for the "gimmies".

On Adams: Offense in SEC not very likely

I tend to agree with others that with a decent quarterback, Tennessee could be 4-0. The defense has held all four opponents to winnable yardage and scores. Crompton, and to some extent Foster, keep giving games away. Stephens looked good in the little time he got. Quarterback is the heart of an offense. I'm sure Cromptom is a fine young man and I feel for him, but he just isn't getting the job done--no spark, no vision, no real determination. Give him a rest and see if the backups can do any better. The season already is bad and will continue to go downhill unless we get some spark on offense. It's past time to try someone else at quarterback--anyone else. Go Vols!

On Defense won't blame offense: 'We're a football team. We're family. We try to find good in people rather than digging in sores'

Loyalty is one thing. Keeping a quarterback who obviously isn't up to the task and a running back who can't hold the ball is foolish. We need Creer and whoever that young quarterback is who looked so good late in the UAB game, I believe it was, or maybe it was at UCLA. This is a game we should have won going away. Auburn has a lousy offense, ours was worse, fumbling at the goal line and giving up the game. The defense looks great, it deserves a better offense. It looks like we have better offensive players at the skill positions sitting on the bench. It's past time to get them into the game. Go Vols! But let's see some changes! It can't get any worse on offense and it might get better.

Agree with Meyer on the clock rules. I suspect they have more to do with how many commercials TV can get in than anything else, but they are robbing the players and the fans of plays and fundamentally altering the games. On a different note, with media favorites Ohio State and Southern Cal already losing, it appears that parity is in full swing. I don't think Vol fans should be all that upset with the losses. Tennessee teams typically jell late and I doubt anyone in the SEC will go undefeated this year. We still could be in the mix by the end of the year. The fair-weather fans after Fulmer should get a life, learn something about football and keep their mouths (keyboards) shut. Go Vols!
