Summer roster filler players can at least catch on with other teams if they show talent. My guess is that he may play in the NBA development league for further seasoning. Good luck, JaJuan! (unless, of course, you are playing against the Spurs.) SAVol

OKC ought to be able to call themselves the Sonics, as the Sonic Drive-In HQ is there! But, Seattle still has the name--maybe the NBA team will be called the Slushes? Go Vols! Go Spurs! SAVol

Academic casualties, or what other reasons? The missing seven may not be expected to play much, anyway, but I would think they'd show up before classes start this fall, and participate in Summer practices. Go Vols! SAVol

Nice article on BJ Coleman in the Chatt N-FP of 6/29. Also, UGA VI died in his hometown of Savannah, GA. Go Vols! SAVol

On Poll: What SEC coach is worth the money they're being paid?

The Old Swamp Rat ran as fast as anybody! He just ran too long in one place! Why he made only 8/10 of our all time QBs is a mystery to me--put him in the top five! His 1967 team won the SEC Championship, after losing a first of the season re-match with UCLA, we won out, until the heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. Missed the 1965 game because I was attending basic training in Texas, but Memphis was still talking about the game when I passed back through en route to Europe a few weeks later. Great memory, Tom! ZR, I learned from LVX8 not to express honest opinions on anything involving women's sports on this site back when the Lady Vols were in the Final Four, but I do agree with her post yesterday at 11:12 am (maybe this article, or the 'sister article', I don't care enough to re-research to insure accuracy--I'm working). Hey, we can't drill for oil because of the endangered species acts, and other looney ideas. Why should collegiate sports be any different? Go Vols! SAVol

On Auriemma's deal will be part of talks on Summitt

Posted on June 27 at 9 a.m.

Nobody has pointed out Title IX in this discussion yet, so, that law requires parity in spending on both men's and women's athletics, even though men' football and basketball brings in the revenue to fund the rest of the programs. Joan Cronan enlightened me on that subject over dinner at the New Orleans Women's Final Four in 1991. I think that Pat Summitt should have a contract paying her $1 more than Geno--like the time that Red Auerbach, reacting to a contract for Wilt Chamberlain for $100,000, tore up Bill Russell's contract, and wrote him another one for $100,001.00. (Hey, that was a long time ago!) Go Vols! SAVol

Looks like nobody plays defense in the PRTL. On a trip back to TN last week, I read economic data in the CN-FP that indicated a rare county in TN where the median income was $40K or better, so Tyler needs to study economics during the school year, so he can understand realities rather than dreams. At the same time, I agree with his decision to remain in school and work on his game, and become a lottery pick. Any offers for Chris Lofton for a summer development league team? Go Vols! SAVol

Just finished watching Nunes' film. I'm not sure if it's just wishful thinking, but he reminds me of a young Peyton Manning, on occasion directing his receiver into position before throwing a TD pass. He has enough talent and intelligence that Clawson should be able to develop. Can you imagine the QB competition!?! All have the physical tools to play, the question is to who has the highest football IQ. Stephens and Coleman aren't exactly chopped liver, but I agree with an earlier poster: somebody is going to transfer. Couldn't find a film on Bryce Petty on scout. Keep 'em coming, Phil! Go Vols!
