Written on UT athletic director Hart gets one-year extension, $50K bonus:

in response to PHAT_VOL:

One Year Ext and a new car. He's earned it.
Now if he can just hire a new baseball coach.
How about Rob coming back?
GO VOLS!!!!

If by saying "Rob" you mean ROD Delmonico, then you are a fool. ROD did win some games, but he was a grade a arse hole and we are much better off as a University without him. Even ROD was on a down hill projection when Hammy jetisoned him. Again, Serrano is left with a steaming pile of poo that he inherited from Todd Ralieigh... who by all accounts was another prince of a man.

Take a look at all of the offers that ROD has had since being fired from UT....can't think of one. The guy was a cancer that no one liked being around.

Written on UT athletic director Hart gets one-year extension, $50K bonus:

I agree with laccoon...not sure why these extensions take place with so much left on the original contract.

I DO, however, support Dave Hart. He was left a tub of $hit from Mike Hamilton. The excess in spending, cronyism and mismanagement are areas that Dave Hart has had to clean up and he is taking a beating from plenty of numb skulls on here...though I don't think he cares.

Butch Jones appeas to be not just a good hire, but a great hire. There is excitement and plenty going on behind the scenes that CBJ is doing to repair relationships ruined by Coach Dooley.

Eventually, it would be great to have David Blackburn back. He has a tough job at UTC. If he can make a go of it there, then he should be the front runner when Hart's contract expires.

Brighter days are ahead, in my opinion.

Written on UTC to announce David Blackburn as new athletic director:

Congratulations David. Hope to have you back on The Hill after Dave Hart retires. This is a position well earned.

Written on Marlon Walls says hospital visit with Katelyn Norman changed his life :

Marlon Walls is my new favorite Vol. it's great to see these stories and have our team reaching out to the community. Life is bigger than football. We should all keep that in perspective.

Written on Tennessee's Orange and White game to be free again:

I hope that Dooley and Sally ate hotdogs as well.

Written on Butch Jones wants to 'win the practice' on Day 1 of Tennessee spring ball:

This is change that I like. I hope tat CBJ's hype leads to wins and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of the spring practices.

Written on Former UT assistant coach John Palermo hired by Pittsburgh:

I can't believe that Charlie Coiner hasn't found a job! He did such a remarkable job for UT.

Written on Butch Jones says Vols were 'selective' :

Are we in a better situation that we were 6 weeks ago...with the coaching staff and with what Dooley had committed? Time will tell. I like that fact that Coach Jones was able to get in front of some top guys, sign some top guys. Too bad he couldn't close on Vonn Bell, but that groundwork was layed well before CJ arrived in Knoxville. I am excited for the future. Go Vols.

Written on Butch Jones' staff taking shape; Tee Martin reportedly has offer :

Cautiously optimitic at this point in time. He talks a good game, but seems a little implausible with some of his sentiments. Not sure it is a good thing to stand in front of a group of guys who beat you and talk about leaving a championship team. Also, if you weren't interested in leavng Cincinnati for any othr job except Tennessee, then why go interview?

Don't get me wrng. I like the hire and think that he should have been closer to the top than #3...or lower. Just mark your comments and be ready to deliver. You have entered into a whole new level of compeiton in the SEC and you aren't inheriting a great sitation.

Written on Louisville coach Charlie Strong meets with players:

in response to clvolfan:

I cannot believe I am hearing callers to UT talk radio, that are actually wanting the administration to bring CPF back as head coach. He's the one who started this mess and took his 6 million and smiled all the way to the bank. His time has passed, and we can do better.Coach Chizik would probably talk to UT,which would be ok with me.

HECK NO to Chizik. That guy is a grade A d-bag. He pulled a Kiffin on Iowa State. The players hated him. Never fit in with the community. This guy has an ego the size of Texas and that is the wrong T to be involved with.

Sadly, we are not intriguing enough at this point. It is looking like we will overpay for a less than "top tier" guy. Hopefully Hart doesn't panic and hire Larry Fedora. I would rather try to low ball Tressel and take his baggae than to have Fedora, Pertrino, or Butch Davis.

Written on John Adams: Charlie Strong's strengths match up with UT's weaknesses :

Arkansas trumped us? You are sadly mistaken. Bielema is an a-hole. He was as a player at Iowa and contiunues it to this day. I would be embarrassed if he were at Tennessee. He will see that the SEC is much, much different than the Big 10 and his name recognition is nothing in the SEC. Charlie Strong would be a GREAT hire. I hope that we get him...green, black, red...once at UT, it's all ORANGE!!

Written on Tennessee fires Derek Dooley:

While I think that this is necessary, I really wish it hadn't come to this. I think at Coach Dooley is a class act and wish him all the best in his future. He should stick with athletic administration as he is articulate and intelligent. He didn't seem to have the ability to coach a football team though.

I think it is in poor taste to not give him a chance to coach against Kentucky. The season is over and no damage can be done. I think that he could have at least gone out as a winner at home with an opportunity to make up for the debacle last year in Lexington.

Best wishes coach. I appreciate your efforts.

Written on Canales had three sons play for Vols, three for Mississippi State:

Nice story about a great family. I didn't know all the history. Billy was a coach and teacher at CBHS when I was there. You damn sure didn't want to be on his bad side. Rumor was they put him in a cage with a live bear in college and he kicked the bears arse. Also was refered to as "zipper neck" when out of ear shot due to his scar. A fine southern family who put their mark on SEC football.

Written on Hugh Freeze embarks on biggest challenge at Ole Miss:

in response to GAAddressButBleedOrange:

That's quite a story, had no idea he was the high school coach of Big Mike!!!

Being Big Mike's coach is a big part of his recruiting schtick. I didn't know that his sister played a role in the story as well. Very interesting. As far as his coaching, his stops at Ark St and Lambuth are glorified high schools...not the SEC. Therefore, the quality of individual and athletic ability will not be the same. He was on Coach O's staff at Ole Piss and I don't think thaey proved too successful. Not expecting too much from him now either.

Written on Hugh Freeze embarks on biggest challenge at Ole Miss:

Who cares? Especially since he has a Kiffin on staff.

Written on Legendary University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt faces future:

I think that this was a great article. Tyler has become a great spokeman for his mom and his dedication to her reputation and well being is awesome. Pat has done a tremendous job raising a fine young man.

Coach Summitt has done so much for UT, numerous athletes and college sports as a whole. It is her right to make the decision to retire when and how she chooses. Hopefully those around her will help guide her down a path that will allow her to exit gracefully.

I would like to see her name a successor soon and move to a Coach Emeritus type position. It would be foolish to have her completely leave the program. UT needs her as much as she needs the continued involvement with UT.

Whatever the outcome, she is truly a inspiration as a coach, educator, role model and parent.

Written on Source: Rich Bisaccia no longer a candidate for Vols' special teams coach job :

That's ok. We didn't have a coach for special teams last year either.

Written on John Adams: Caldwell committed to LSU, points to UT staff for successor to Pat Summitt :

She is right that the first choice should be Holly Warlick. Perhaps one day she will come home.

Written on Immokalee DB Mackensie Alexander commits to Tennessee for 2013:

I hope that this holds out. Good luck young man and looking forward to having you on Rocky Top.

Written on Controversial former UT receiver Nu'Keese Richardson retires:

He'll find a job making liscense plate for the statee of Florida within 3 years.

Written on Austin Ward: Changing jobs is normal, even for coaches :

Coaches are no different than "normal" folks. When opportunity knockks, you damn sure better open the door. Sometimes you follow your heart and should be able to hold your chin high when you do so. Other times you follow a check, and often you end up on the unemployment line within a few years. The problem comes from the stories that have to be told to get kids to come to your program so that you aren't forced out due to lack of winning. We all need to realize that in most cases, it's NOT "about the student ATHLETES." It is big business and the dollar wins out in the end. Some handle it well, and others are pukes like the clown from Pitt.

Welcome home Jay Graham. I hope that you are able to coach as well as you played!!

Written on Derek Dooley visits CAK, checks on QB Charlie High:

Hopefully he has a few inches to grow still if we are looking at him as a QB. Glad to see that we are working the home talent.

Written on Jay Graham: 'I'm excited to get back to my old stomping grounds' :

"though there are unconfirmed reports that special teams coordinator and tight ends coach Eric Russell could be a target of new Washington State coach Mike Leach."

This guy should be fired for his speciaal teams coaching as it is. Chaney should go with him.

Written on Memphis AD says school deserves to be in SEC:

This man should be relieved of his duties and checked into a menatal ward. He has done NOTHING to earn (let alone deserve) any opportunity to join any conference. The basketball team is good, but borderline corrupt at any given point. The football team is non-existent. Do they have any other athletic teams that actually compete? Memphis State should be a communtiy college.

Written on Bruce Pearl's 'business decisions' upset former assistants :

Bitter beans. He could have left at any time. it is called being an assisatant and earning your way. Pearl started the same way as do most coaches. For that matter, that is how most careers work. While the whole situation is sad in how it turned oyt, the Shays need to quit looking for the handouts and go to work like everyone else.

Written on UT talks with Alabama’s Dave Hart, has not yet offered AD job:

Say it so Gator Jimmy. Too much in this guys background with the FSU scandal to bring him in. Keep it the way it is for a while until we find the right person, not a quickly available person.

Written on John Adams: A new (Young) Wide Receiver U :

I would love to see us get back to the Widereciever U days. Harper and Pickens and Gault to name a few. Wouldn't it be nice to add Dorial Green-Beckham to the list!!

Written on A history of Tennessee football coaches:

Proud to have every name on the list but one.

Written on Janzen Jackson enrolls at McNeese State :

This won't be the end of "JJ & The Weed". Back home, kicking it with his boyz, hitting the chronic. Too bad and best wishes. I hope that you can straighten it out. It was fun to watch you play. Too bad that you pissed it all away.

Written on Joan Cronan Q&A:

Take the interim tag off and convince her to keep the job. Put David Blackburn and Condredge Holloway on her coat tail to be ready in a couple of years to take over. This is a no brainer.

Written on Bruce Pearl 'disappointed with length of show-cause penalty' :

Good luck CP. Thanks for the wins, excitement and for making us relevant. I wish it had all been done honestly so that you were still the coach and we weren't in such a mess. On the other hand, it it all hadn't happened, we might still have Mike Hamilton. Take the money in Texas but remember who the real UT is.

Written on Heath Shuler's home was almost Alabama:

I can remember being at a party with a number of Vol players when Heath was on his recruiting trip. His interest in Alabama was well known. One of the players told him that he could "either sign with UT, or get his arse kicked by UT for the next 4 years." Plenty of laughter ensued, and it turns out that the Tide beat us each time Heath took the field. He delieverd as a great QB, and I am glad that we got him instead of Alabama.

Written on Chris Walker signs with Baltimore Ravens:

Stay the hell away from Ray Lewis!!! Good luck with your new career.

Written on RB I'Tavius Mathers does not have UT in final four:

Ole Miss...Virginia...KY...we don't need idiots like this in orange. Atleast SC is putting up a decent program, but to want to play for an a-hole like Spurrier?!? Have fun kid. You will have a short career at those schools.

Written on Vols linebacker Austin Johnson arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct:

in response to bradr114:

i dont understand why knoxville pd insists on trying to make our program look bad. i mean, seriously, if you are a cop and a UT fan just tell him to chill out and ask him if he wants to keep playing ball at UT to go home. obviously i dont know all the details, but i cant understand why these cops cannot make an effort to protect our players instead of throwing them in a cop car everytime they get a chance. public intox? im sure there were hundreds of UT coeds on the strip last night that could have been arrested for that. the only reason i say all this is because i know how big douchebags knoxville police can be at times. there are a pool of them that have allowed their badge to swell up there head and now they are captain america.
i have heard mulitple times of stories "in the good ol days" where cops would call the coach instead of taking these guys to jail. why can't that be done anymore? austin would have it way worse if the cop dropped him off at dooley's door rather than downtown holding cell.

Unbelievable response. I understand your premise, but you can't actually believe that this is the correct way to go about this. Athletes at UT ( and any other school) are given so much and in turn give so much back. This doesn't make them above the law. I understand that 22 year old kids make mistakes. Hopefully he can learn from this and make better decisions later on. I am sure that he will be dealt with fairly by KPD and the athletic department. AJ...take responsibility, clean your act up, learn from your mistake, and work your arse off to gain back the trust and respect of your teammates and coaches.

Written on Spokesman: Heath Shuler focused on 2012 race :

No fing way this guy should be the AD. Just because he was a good college QB doesn't make him a good candidate for AD. He is successful because of his name, not his results. I would think that if we want a Vol legend to take over...give the rock to Condredge Holloway. Holloway is a great guy, well respected and has a hell of a lot more experience than Schuler. My vote would be to keep Joan Cronan in place for a while and let the dust settle on the NCAA probes. No need to rush to fill a spot. And when we do, let's hope that they have more substance than Sen. Schuler.

Written on Dave Serrano will add Bill Mosiello to UT baseball staff :

Not sure that quitting a minor league managerial job in the middle of the season for a college assistant's job sits well with me. Finish the season and then come on board. I'm glad to see the staff building, but how do you square that with your players when you are asking them not to quit on you when the going gets tough in the middle of the grind?

Written on Dave Serrano's right-hand man, Greg Bergeron, to be named to coaching staff :

Why the hell are people calling for Simcox. Wasn't he a Delmonico lackey? Better to try to bring Fred Corral back. Better yet...move in another direction and don't hang your hat on a past that we need to close the books on. If you can find the right alum...and maybe Burke is that guy...then it would be cool to see a player return to coach in the program. Another thought, hire Mark Connor as your pitching guru. There aren't too many better and he may be open to an assistants role instead of the HC position and all of the phooey that goes with it.

Written on Serrano's Homecoming: Former UT assistant 'never left this place':

in response to VolzsFan:

He owes everything from his career, his philosophy and his baseball knowledge to the winningest coach in UT history Rod Delmonico. Would have been a classy thing to acknowledge that.

You are a clown. He may have been given an opportunity from Delmonico, but it sounds like Coach Horton was his mentor. He had enough sense to leave the program instead of staying with one of the biggest a-holes that has ever been a head coach at UT. Good luck Coach Serrano. I wish you the best and am happy to hear of your passion for UT.

Written on Tennessee baseball coaching position may point to Dave Serrano :

Got get him JC. This would be a great first hire as a unified AD.

Written on Todd Raleigh fired as Tennessee baseball coach:

in response to MrFinch:

(This comment was removed by the site staff.)

Dusty Baker to UT...you are as big a fool as Mike Hamilton. Billy Martin has a better shot at taking the job than Dusty baker.

I like how he thanked "some assistant coaches" for their support. I guess the ones who realized he was a bad coach and got the heck out are the ones who don't get his thanks.

Written on Vols lose 5-2 to Mississippi State, likely out of postseason:

I just looked at the UT baseball page and it states that Todd Raleigh is "Widely considered one of the best hitting instructors in college baseball." WOW. I would be embarrassed to be considered second best!!!

Written on Vols lose 5-2 to Mississippi State, likely out of postseason:

I have NEVER read an article that said that this guy is a good coach...or recruiter...or a decent human being. I HAVE read articles where he throws his players under the bus ("If I could hit for them, I would."), as well as articles that deatil his coaching style. It sounds to me that the players lack confidence and possibly hate playing for this coach. The chance to play in the SEC will overcome the initial charachter deficiencies of a coach for many kids. When they get here, they are outclassed on talent, they are outcoached on the field, and they are not put in a position to succeed. I'm not sure who runs his offensive game, but it sounds like he is not very good at it. Hitting sucks & run production is non-existent. I'm glad that he manages the bullpen well. Not much of a need to manage it if you can't score runs to get ahead in the game. Finish the year and throw him out. Go get a recruiter and motivator...preferably with a good hitting philosophy!!!

Written on Tennessee signee Chris Jones to play at Florida junior college:

So long, pal. I am sure that Steve Forbes will do a good job of steering him away from UT for the future. Let's hope CCM has some good moves up his sleeve to build the program back up.

Written on Lane Kiffin on recruiting success at Southern California: It's not me:

Who gives a damn. We did pretty well in our own right. Unfortuantely, we will still get heat for Lame's transgressions. I wish that they would penalize coaches and the ADs that don't monitor them instead of punishing the universities. Kiffin in who takes the heat on this, but Hamilton didn't do his job either.

Written on UT baseball to hold fan appreciation day:
