Let's get the rumor mill started. Cowher spent quite a bit of time in Knoxville over the summer "observing" the football program. When he retired from Pittsburgh he was immediately predicted to take over at NC state his alma matter but they went and hired the coach from Boston College because they did not wait for the NFL season to end. Cowher has mentioned about wanting to coach at the college level if something opens up at a quality program with a winning tradition. Like I said I am just fanning the rumor mill flames but he did spend more time in Knoxville than he did anywhere else? If the jaw does come in '08 intensity will not be problem anymore in K-town!!

maddog72, point taken, I just wasn't very impressed with him then and wonder why he is a co-defensive coordinator now. Anyways vol fans here is something to think about the two best teams in the country USC & LSU have two things in common 1. stout defenses 2. power running. Not trying to start a Cowher hiring fund but that is what he is known for and if Fulmer does call it quits he would be my first choice if UT will pony up the dough.

Strong is the co-defensive coordinator at Florida(they have two). I remember when he was the defensive coordinator at South Carolina. If I recall he did not do too good.

First off, Fulmer is probably calling it quits at the end of the year regardless of how the season goes. Like his wife said after the 98 NC "It can't get much better." If this is I hope he gets sent out on a high note. As a 3rd generation fan I appreciate his 11-3 record against Alabama. Second, I do not understand the reluctance about Cowher?? He is a super bowl winning "head" coach who does two things UT fans enjoy: aggressive in your face defense and a power running game that would make us proud and rumor has it he is interested in UT if the opportunity comes up. I cannot believe someone on this website actually questioned his passion?! If he can get guys making millions so fired up they would fight a circle saw imagine the intensity 18-22 year olds would have playing for him. This program needs that more than anything.

The urine incidents were reported in the gainesville sun paper on the day of the 2003 game there. I know because I was there and read it. Also, security was very heavy for that game(noted as well in the paper) as there were 3 officers between us and the florida fans in the upper deck corner above the ut band. Here is a stat of interest. According to a study done by the SEC conference back in 2001 around the time of the delayed ut/fla game florida had the highest number of fans aged 25-40 of any sec team that attended their games. I know many fans of other sec schools (GA, ALA, LSU etc..) and when we talk about going to the swamp or FLA fans one theme instantly comes up "lack of maturity". Do the other sec schools have fans who are unmature, ABSOLUTELY, but FLA is more prevalent because of the age base that is more apt engage in immature activities. It does have an advantage however and to FLA credit the swamp is the loudest stadium I have ever been in even though we outnumber them by 15000+. As far as the game goes if UT will "commit" itself to run the football and have success then FLA is in trouble, if we cannot it may be hard to watch and my heart will go out to the UT fans attending the game.

WD, if our offensive line cannot go 2 yards in 4 plays we got major problems. You are right on with the kill shot, wrap up and put him on his tail!

I like coach cut but if we do not become more patient with our run game we are in for a 8 win season. There is no excuse for third and 1 throwing a flare pass or first and goal from the 2 and throwing twice!! We outweighed them an average of nearly 40 pounds with a 230+ pound back. For goodness sake run the ball!!!

Two things, first to all the gator folks as well as vol fans Florida is only about two skill people better than us talent wise! Playing at home should even that out. Second, though, Florida is WAY BETTER coached than we are! Kicking to Brandon James, ARE YOU KIDDING ME! TWICE??!! That cost us fourteen points!! Clawson is way in over his head and Fulmer is not going to bail him out!!
The wake up call should have come at UCLA against a team way below us talent wise but way ahead of us coaching wise!! TN played with so much anxiety you could have got a diamond from a lump of coal out of them today and that type of anxiety comes from the coaches!!
On Florida has easy time with stumbling Vols, 30-6
