Hm. One of the choices should have been "Drunk"
Way to add it at the end of the football season. Great "value" for the customers.
How much do the college presidents or people who run the NCAA get under the table from the bowls to let this continue.
How can anyone blame a student athlete for taking any kinds of benefits they get when a corrupt system is designed to exploit them?
in response to asleep#212036: Out-coached? More like simply out-talented and outplayed. Our young guys played like young guys, something everyone should have expected. We are not nearly as good as we looked last week nor are we nearly as bad as we looked today. They were at Georgia and the Dawgs were hard against it, knowing a loss to UT would likely send their entire season into a death roll. Winning big games is about elevating your level of play and at this point, we have a glass ceiling as to how far we can go. Georgia, despite their record, does not. Only Florida and LSU have out-recruited Georgia the past 5 years so when you take that kind of experienced talent, put them at home in a must-win game, give them an opponent with the youngest team in the conference, with the youngest coaching staff in the conference, with a hangover from a last-minute brain cramp 7 days ago, well..... I think we all get the picture. There isn't a coach in America who would have this team any further along than the one we have, period. Now IF Dooley continues our recruiting renaissance of the past two seasons, and IF we don't lose too many to grades or injuries in the next two years, and IF most of these young guys turn out to be worthy of their recruiting "stars" - and he still can't win? THEN, we can begin to question our coaching staff. Until that point, you just don't have enough data to draw a valid conclusion. Go Vols!!!

To not question the coaches after a game like that is wrong. They did not have this team ready for this game. Period. The 17 - 0 score in the first quarter doesn't have anything to do with depth. On offense, they gave up on the running game way too early and on defense they looked clueless. Wilcox does not look like he understands how scheme a defense against real offenses.
Thought Simms (competition taken into consideration) looked really poised. Was calm and stood and delivered the football. Biggest mistake of the night was the fumbled punt. Cannot wait to see what happens against a top quality opponent. Will only get tougher from here.
Hurt emotionally? Are there tough guys on this team anymore? What happened?
looks like some guys will be running some extra laps.

never forget... never forget...
This is awful from the NYT. I guess since the Yankees won, they can't spend all winter bashing them.
does anyone spell check their articles on this site?
man, just reading about the chic-fil-a bowl makes me want a chicken sandwich.
i'm torn. i mean, we should have won this game it and it would have been one for the ages. maybe we should have been carrying torches to lincoln's dorm room instead of cromptons? (if lincoln makes his kicks, we win pretty much all of our games) how did we end up with kickers that have trouble getting it over the line.

that's awesome - "Is someone talkin' 'bout some wildfire?!"
Slive should quit his b!tching and get back to working on giving the fans what they really want - a playoff in Div I college football.
lol... can we build a time machine and go back and get Casey Clausen with some eligibility left to QB for today?
It's unfortunate that trying hard and giving it your all doesn't always mean actually being good. I'm all for the story of the underdog overcoming and triumphing in the end, but sometimes stories don't have happy endings.
Hoping for the best this Saturday, but I'll be preparing for the worst. Jack Daniels and I will be good friends all over again.
in response to OldNumber7: Anyone who watched USC / Ohio State should have taken some things away from that game:1) USC's acclaimed o-line had a bad day too against a good defense. Their day looked like our day...relax. It doesn't mean we are bad yet.2) USC play book looked awfully familiar - but eventually worked and won the game because of ball protection...relax. Without mistakes we would have won too. Maxim 1.3) Ohio State was in the same position we were at the end and they failed too. Season over?...not yet. And we still haven't played an SEC game. Despite our mistakes, I saw a team that was pulling away from UCLA...until we shot ourselves in the foot. It was ALL about our own mistakes yesterday.

really good points. USC's play calling looked almost identical to the Vol's at the end of the game. The big difference was who was pulling the trigger. Crompton got outplayed by a redshirt freshman who was coughing up blood at the end of the game. He had basically a clean uniform and no composure.
Way to be average Adams. This was a big win. Sure the Vols beat the snot our the UL-Monroe in the Manning era etc. but if you remember, those teams were actually good too. The Vols have squeaked past terrible teams and played down to their competition for the last few years.
Call it running it up or whatever, but its good to see this team stay focused and play hard for four quarters even when the game is won.
yeah, wish the letter felt a little more like Coach wrote it. anyways, this is the first home opener i'm missing in 13 years. I live in New York now, but I will be living in big orange country on Saturday.

It took 3 games for the offense (and Peyton) to feel comfortable with Jamal blocking. It wasn't the running, but the blocking. They didn't want to see Peyton get killed because he hadn't figured out the blocking schemes.
It's a little different in this offense this year, because there is more focus on the run game and there isn't as much concern as was protecting the future first pick of the NFL draft and one of the greatest players in UT history.
so, I don't understand... High School kids can't raise money to go check out college campuses? That seems absolutely ridiculous. Does that mean that only kids who come from rich families can go? That seems a little discriminatory.
how in the world is raising money to go to a camp a violation of amateur status? if he raised money to go on a mormon mission would anyone be raising this question?
So glad to hear that Coach Majors, a true UT coaching and playing legend, is going to be at the stadium.
in response to mtnrider2#207721: Graphically it looks better. I like the black. Being from a design profession I can appreciate that. From a functional standpoint it is much more difficult for me to use. The smaller font & previous layout allowed me to go to the main screen, quickly scan the headlines without scrolling down, right click each one to open in a new tab. I might open 5-6 articles simultaneously. Now I have to scroll down to get to the information, text is too big. Its more difficult to access the information and get a handle mentally on what is contained on the page.

I agree with you. The longer pages make it more difficult to scan. Also setting every headline to bold makes them more difficult to read.
