Written on John Adams: SEC football hierarchy won't change in 2012 :

in response to Jovol642:

Dooley has one more year and then he is out. Start looking for a new coach and then he will be out in 3 yrs. Just about time for Peyton to give up the NFL and come home to lead the Vols to victory. When a team quits at Lexington and can't beat a reciever @ QB it is time to realize that if Derrick's last name had been Jones or Smith (with a loosing record) he would never been considered. So there!!

so following your timeline UT will be back in the elite in 2017-18 range huh? I hope your a very young fan to be able to wait that long...

Written on Letter from DeAnthony Arnett following his release:

IMO the PR department constructed that letter. However it was done, good luck to the kid. He will do well wherever he ends up playing.

PR department should try to build a letter using language an 18/19 year old would actually use if they want to fool the general public.

Written on Top 10 stories in 2011 for Tennessee football:

in response to Bigger_Al:

I agree with you. Not sure about stars leaving for the NFL early, though there sure is a lot of smoke on message boards about that happening. Bray needs maturity, a lot of reps, and to show he can read defenses and hold up physically. Hunter looks amazing, but has only been a starter for TWO games, and needs time to show durability. Da'Rick needs maturity, time for red flags to subside, as well as cutting down on drops. If I'm an NFL GM, not sure I'm investing anything beyond late draft picks for what we've seen so far.

"though there sure is a lot of smoke on message boards about that happening" - WTF.. half the posters on message boards go to work with their names on their shirts. They make up stuff and then they and their online brethren believe it. Do you actually think anyone with inside AD knowledge posts on a message board? If so, you must get fleeced a lot in life..good luck in 2012

Read the posts of supporters. You can't say Dooley without maybe, could, and might. Truth is, on Saturday nights it's always didn't, can't, and couldn't. For future reference add won't.

You should remove ROMAN ROOM from your name, you don't measure up to a RR moniker. Why not use McAllister's - it suits you better.

Virginia Tech is actually in Blacksburg, VA and is just up I-81 from Knoxville about 3 hours. It could become a natural rivalry.

I'm very disappointed but he is a VOL now and I will support him. I would have cheered for Phillip Fulmer or Joan Croanan for AD. Not sure how the big boosters will feel about a BAMA guy running the show.

He would not have been hired w/out the OK from the really big boosters.

Written on UT talks with Alabama’s Dave Hart, has not yet offered AD job:

in response to SIMSVOL:

Tennessee had one of the best ADs in the country in Hamilton - but the yahoos on this site didn't have a clue. It will be tough to find someone with Hamilton's ability to secure strong coaching talent - i.e. Pearl, Dooley - and equally important secure the level of funding that has fueled incredible sports facilites development and upgrades. Go VOLS!

Pick any accountant at Coopers Lybrand and you have the next Hamilton. Bean Counters are not hard to find.

Ask ANYBODY in the administration or sports department if they want us to say 'we' and they will give you a resounding YES. UT is my school, my alma mater, and I am a part of the great UT 'we'. Maybe you are a passive fan of something and watch from the outside. UT fans don't.

Sadly, another Onterrio or T Rob, I doubt it was weed that did him in. I imagine the poor kid is into something much more deadly long term. How can these kids keep thinking they are bullet proof when it comes to drugs? Tossing away life so early on not to mention financial security. Sad, very sad.

Written on Geoff Calkins: Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt has finally met a foe that even she can't beat:

What a sad terrible story.. but some of these posts are downright funny..both sides use this story of a horrible disease to preach one view or another. My father died of Alzheimer's and it is a thief in the night. In the old days they put you away in an institution when you had this disease. Horrible horrible.

Written on Janzen Jackson dismissed from Tennessee football team:

Hire Bruce as an ESPN analyst. He is the next Dick Vitale. I like Bruce and his bad decision is not a life ender in my opinion. I would love to hear him on pregame shows. Bruce loved the Vols and his horrible decision to lie does not diminish that. Go Bruce GBO...HA HA their spell check changes name to Richard..

Written on Tom Mattingly: Walk-throughs become strolls down memory lane :

The memory is still fresh of the 1991 game, the contest in which the Vols rallied from 31-7 down to win 35-34. No Tennessee fan could forget the frantic moment when Jeremy Lincoln blocked the final Notre Dame field goal attempt - I was at that beautiful clear cold game. My thoughts on ND changed that day when their fans all congratulated us VOLS walking out of the stadium and a woman sitting next to me actually sent me a photo of the final scoreboard. ND fans have class X2.

Written on Prentiss Waggner showing his versatility :

in response to VolGrad:

Actually, the Grizzlies are probably looking forward to this game against us. They are the obvious underdogs and have absolutely nothing to lose. They will come into Neyland loose and ready to play. It is a great stadium and provides an awesome atmosphere for college football. I think their coach is telling them to soak it all in and have fun.

As others have stated, we will need to smack them in the mouth early and often.

Go Vols!!!

I hope their fans have a great time in Knoxville. An atmosphere 2nd to none in college ball. I remember some Oregon fans telling me that same thing in the bookstore last year. What we have known for as long as we have been fans. Either 1 year or 41 years it is GREAT to be in Knoxville on a Saturday in the fall.

Griz's will not be prepared for September humidity in the south though. By end of 3rd Q they will be depleted by humidity if nothing else.

Written on For now, SEC will stick with its 12 schools:

Clemson and UNC are founding members of the ACC. They will not leave the B Ball $$$ of the ACC.Unc leave the Duke rivalry- no. VT had to go to the Virginia legislature to pressure admission to the ACC.Why would they now leave? Does anyone have a perspective of the real world outside of K - town? I love K-town and my alma mater but try to look at facts not fiction.

Written on Houston Chronicle: Texas A&M to join SEC:

BREAKING NEWS - SEC to Outsource 2 teams

A non-placed source rumored that SEC commissioner to announce Vandy & Ole Miss to be outsourced for good of conference. Vandy to be outsourced to Canton, China and Ole Miss to Bangalore, India. It was noted: the name Canton evokes memories of football while Bangalore, well holds most other US jobs.
News source notes this move to help fans by helping concession prices to rise slower than usual. Rumored that a coke & peanuts in SEC stadiums to cost no more than an appetizer and cocktail at 'Ye Olde You know what' restaurant. This 'sunsetting' of the Vandy and Ole Miss programs to assist SEC fans and America in general. Nicknames to follow as college Presidents hire outside firm to study issue at outrageous prices.

Written on Houston Chronicle: Texas A&M to join SEC:

in response to Huttdawg100:

I completely disagree. This new breed of UT fan needs look through the history books and realized how powerful Tennessee is. We're not second class. We're a top 10 program. Period.

We hired an idiot for an AD that had no backbone, and he let Kiffin and Pearl run all over him until both major men's programs were down. He made a poor decision on when to show Fulmer the door, and when he did, he brought in a guy that hadn't proved anything. Brian Kelly was right there up the street taking CINCINATTI to BCS!?!?! Brian Kelly would have had us in the SEC championship game last year, but Hamilton made the mistake of hiring Kiffin. But make no mistake about it: our stadium is too big, our fan base is too strong, and our pockets are too deep. Look at Michigan, they hired the wrong guy. Rich Rod set them back a few years. They went out, and hired their guy. Ohio State screwed themselves, and now Michigan is working a top recruiting class, and will be back at the top within 2 years. One thing you can count on: big programs won't stay down.

Intelligent, insightful, interesting and a good overall post. well done

Written on Houston Chronicle: Texas A&M to join SEC:

Why in God's name would FSU or VT leave the ACC? FSU refused us years ago to be the bigger rooster of the ACC. What has changed? The Virginia govt. stepped in to force UVA to vote for VT in the ACC. Why would they now leave what was so hard to attain?
A&M long term will dilute the SEC. I was never happy with UA sitting on the OKLAHOMA border being in the SEC. Who next, UCONN?

Written on Kansas City Star: Big 12 schools already speaking of A&M in past-tense:
