Written on Vols smother error-prone WKU, 52-20:

This is a well coached mistake free team. However, we will not beat Oregon. I do have confidence that we can continue to play penalty free football. Thats all I want this team to be. To play to the maximum of their ability. Now

I want you guys to take note, how many false starts penalties, not enough men on the field penalties, or being lined up incorrectly plays would this team have had if coached by Dooley. Those things could have lost a game like this one today. I was one of the ones who called for his firing before last year because I knew his teams got worse and never showed improvement. I never wanted the impossible I wanted improvement.

We now have a proven winner in coach Jones and he is recruiting the players to move this team to the next level. He takes responsibility, he said "the blocked punt is inexcusable". This is the language of a winner.

Do not expect the impossible but be satisfied that he is getting every bit out of these guys that he can. It is great to be a Tennessee Vol. brick by brick.

Written on Former UT football players sue NCAA over concussions:

It may look like a money grab until it hits your family. My uncle played at Trousdale County High School Hartsville TN started all four years offensive line and defensive line. Then went to University of Louisville started OL his last 3yrs of eligibility. This was in the 70S. Now he suffers from Frontal lobe damage early onset dementia. It will eventually take his life. In the 1970s and 1980s there were no concussion evaluations. I do believe now they are made aware of the risks but in that time if they were conscious they played. Although I will say this we never thought to sue anyone.

Written on Mike Strange: This time, it's not Year Zero at Tennessee:

in response to BIVOLAR_BEARE:

The year zero Dooley emphatically pointed to (so not to be judged) was arguably his best season as HC.

If i am not mistaken it was his best year recruiting as well. Probably because of kiffens start. Kiffen is a snake and a mediocre coach. But he was still light years ahead of dooley.

Written on Vols' scholarship roster has 19 seniors, but still plenty of questions entering 2013:

no excuses from butch that is to dooley like.

Written on John Adams: Phillip Fulmer needs to look in a mirror before assessing blame:

Fullmer deserved some of the blame maybe. Was his worst teams as bad as the last three years. Hell no.

Written on A 'smokey' shade of gray for Tennessee football uniform:

I like this a lot more than the tradition of the last three years. Look cut coach jones some slack. Why because he is winning in recruiting if he was 34th in the country in recruiting I would say who needs it too. Rivals number one ranked recruiting class baby. This year maybe a little rough. But, you will see improvement as the year goes on. Dooley's team got worse as the year went on. Keep showing me results coach jones I love it.

They should all be open, not sure why they were ever closed to begin with. I can go to any high school around and watch their practice, and right now I can go to any pro camp and watch their practice, so why not open them all up?

because Saban an do nothing dooley decided that practices should be closed. For saban it works for Dooley not so much. I like them open it keep up enthusiasm for the program which puts butt in the seats on sat.

Written on UPDATED: Cuonzo Martin to receive $50,000 raise:

in response to 1vavolfan:

Don't agree with your comment on no one else wanting the job. I do agree UT should not even consider a coach that has never reached the NCAA Tournament or a football coach with a losing record (kiffin,Dooley)

you are probably right and what makes it worse is that his brand a basketball is not fun to watch.

Written on UPDATED: Cuonzo Martin to receive $50,000 raise:

He is a stop gap when no one else wanted the job. Just like dooley never won anything more than moderate success at a small school. He is the only coach in the sec never to make the NCAA dance at some point in their career. I hope he proves me wrong this year. His teams have a tendency to do enough to make you think progress is being made then fold when it counts. I know he had inherited a bad deal, and he has faced injuries. Sounds a lot like dooley's time here.
If he does not put a product on the floor that either performs or is exciting enough to put butts in the seats you can not afford to keep him around. At the end of the day that is what it is about. At least if it does not work out we should be able to land a proven coach that has won championships in line with a butch jones type resume.

Written on Peyton Manning 'looking forward to supporting' Butch Jones:

in response to Olddogsrule:

Amazing how we fans can only see what we want. While I of course loved what Peyton did on the field, the incident publicly called "mooning" but which has been characterized in the lawsuit as more at what many would call "teabagging", and how he renacted that incident TWICE later to harass her, and how in his book he defamed Dr. Naughright is disgusting.

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports...

Logically, the Mannings settled out of court rather than have the truth dragged through the news.

As I said when Tyler drunkenly threw his empties at a dumpster and missed, then first thing in the morning apologized and paid the damages, "What was different from Tyler throwing his empties and Peyton "mooning" the trainer?" I'll tell you now, Tyler was a kid who owned up to his mistake, did the honorable thing and apologized and compensated for his damage. Peyton never really did. In the face of Trainer Mike Rollo admitting he didn't see it but came up with the term 'mooning' to help get Peyton off; and Malcolm Saxon, Geno Devane, and Eric Lane, calling his hand; Peyton continued to downplay his actions and misrepresent what Dr. Naughright had said, to the point of publishing his 'version' in a book. Thus he defamed the lady in such a manner that it cost her job at Florida Southern.

Though Peyton did set lots of records, he didn't win 13 in a row, set the NCAA consecutive passes completed record, or win the first BCS NCG, Tee Martin did.

Peyton's "prank" was far worse and had much farther reaching consequences than either of Tyler's bottle throwing or jet ski incidents. Tyler, who, warts and all, led UT's offense to what, it's second or third most productive points scored year in Volunteer history, and if the defense had showed up at all, I believe would have been 1st all time.

One we idolize, the other two not so much. Why?

one had a coach to develop him. The other had nothing. I have no doubt that if Tyler had coach like david cutcliffe he could have been as good as the manning boys.

Written on Vols lose to Alabama, will play the waiting game for NCAA tournament:

in response to runninbroke:

You all are killing me.... GO PULL FOR VANDY IF YOU FEEL THIS WAY!! And switch to their football team too. This is basketball, no one plays great all the time and if you don't shoot free throws well or make shots, you lose.. Can't win them all. And yes, we are an NCAA team but we will see. I'm tired of hearing about beating teams with asterisks beside them. WE haven't had our best player ALL SEASON!! With these guys returning plus Maymon, next year will be a great year! This one is not over yet..

Above is the same type of fan that would be content to see dooley getting ready for his fourth year coaching vols football and talking about how this year will be different. I think whining for whining sake is pathetic. But so is no telling the truth when your team does not show up and yes coaching is part of it.

in response to Olddogsrule:

Ummmm..lessee ... Architecture before Viet Nam interuppted that, and I switched to Mechanical and Aerospace when I got back because I didn't see architecture as the religous calling so many professors do. A few Industrial Engineering courses after that which I needed. I've got more ties to Tennessee than you could ever have or make up. Throughout several generations. My great, great grandfather arrived in America pre-Civil War; and as he had been an academic in Europe, was actively involved in that little college on the hill, East Tennessee University, until his interests turned to Maryville College, of which his son became a trustee. That didn't stop other family members from attending UT, although it did my dad. maryvill College man there. There has been a UT professor, an associate professor, and a whole boat load of Tennessee graduates in my extended family. My dad grew up with Bowden Wyatt. As a child I've visited with him and his family. When Bowden began to get various sicknesses associated with his alcoholism, I would have to sit in the hospital lobby or in the car because in those years children couldn't visit. Bowden's sister would share her lifetime season tickets with my brother, a collegue of hers.

So you accuse me of having no ties. Or, my ties are not worthy. Or because I "smipelled" a word on a laptop I'm just getting used to, accuse me of not being a graduate.

I'll tell you this sir. Flat out. No one, and I do mean no one, has any more right to claims as a Volunteer fan than anyone else. Not me, not you, not UT employees, not previous scholarship athletes, not graduates, not fat cat donors with two skyboxes. They are no more a fan than a kid in Kansas who likes the uniforms because they are Orange and White. A bag boy, a hairdresser, a restaurant cook, a bricklayer, a truck driver, a hotel maid ... each and everyone of them have as much right to Volunteer 'fandom' as a UT graduate or a fat cat donor. And you sir, if you in fact are a graduate -and I don't care one way or another- are not a better fan than anyone. Anyone at all.

both of you cool out a bit. It is obvious you both love UT. The real question is who does coach jones hire. I my self would like someone with southern recruiting ties. I think jones is smart enough not to roll out another former assistant mid-west/big east,MAC coach and try to sell it as the "best staff in America".

again I will ask why can auburn who is surrounded by bama, Ga, and FL. Have a team that layed down a lot last year with 3 season wins have a top 10 recruiting class.
Why can they hire assistant coaches/recruiters like Rodney Garner (who everyone knows recruited a lot of our 1998 national championship team here at Tennessee) and Damian Graig. Written on How do you feel about the 2013 football recruiting class so far?:

in response to eyewild:

Orangeman 1 last time I checked Butch Jones was hired 4 or 5 days before the December dead period in which him and the coaches could not visit recruits till early Jan. so where is the three months that he has had to recruit? Just asking how you expect him to come in behind Dooley who made it a point to not visit during the season and make up all that ground with the 5 star recruits along with the fact that Kiffin had half a class recruited by fulmer and dooley inherited kiffins recruits who mostly were higher rated than what dooley recruited. So how about we give the coaches at least through the florida or alabama game before we start bashing them to badly.

A good start would have been hire a bang up recruiter as an assistant. Like auburn with rodney garner and Arkansas with randy shannon. Auburn lost more games than us go head to head with alabubba and Georgia but will still finish higher in recruiting than us.

Written on How do you feel about the 2013 football recruiting class so far?:

Less be totally honest for a minute. This coach is trying. But what bothers me is Auburn hires assistant rodney garner all you guys remember how good of recruiter he is. Arkansas hires randy shannon same story. Now tell me why we could not hire some one on this level. I have a feeling it is the same reason we did not get our first choice of head coaches.
Now I love butch jones I think he is a tireless recruiter but if you think Auburn and Arkansas do not have a head start on us because of the assistants they hired you are lying to yourself. I am slowly coming to the conclusion My vols have internal problems higher than even the AD. Go vols

Written on Dallas Cowboys hire Derek Dooley as wide receivers coach :

maybe that is because phil will not take a position coaching job. The former head coach before butch jones and after lane kiffin. who I do not use his name because he is not worth it will never hold a head coaching job in the pros or college again.

Written on David Climer: Vols staff looks close to home for recruits:

a 5* is a 5* no matter where he is from great work coach jones. I must be honest I was nervous when Auburn hired rodney Garner and Arkansas hired Randy Shannon. I thought why can't we hire guys like that and for the short term if you think it does not give those schools a leg up on recruiting over UT you are lying to your self. However, I think coach jones has a staff that has been with him a long time and works well together. If I had won before with my staff I would not change it either. So now we are starting to see how hard they are working to up the recruiting bar at UT. The last coach here (I will no longer use his name)did a lot of damage in the Chattanooga area and his staff basically stopped recruiting half way through last year. So it is good to see Coach jones and Staff working hard.

Written on Tennessee's Class of 2012 has dwindled, but those remaining could still have role to play :

Does it make me nervous that Auburn hire Rodney Gardner and Arkansas hires Randy Shannon? You dang right it does. Any of you who do not think that gives those two schools a leg up on UT in recruiting on the short term are lying to your selves. I still do not understand why we can't hire guys like that to recruit but so be it. There are obviously problems with UT higher up than the football coach.
Those stars by these recruits mean something if not then alabama would not be in the top 3 in recruiting every year. I feel that coach Jones is a tireless worker and will do well I hope.
