different mens sport same results I am getting use to it though.
great a new excuse for all of the Conzo supporters to use to dismiss next years record. "He did a great job considering his senior point guard left the team."
I will sum this up for everyone. What do you think would have happened if he had been coached by David Cutcliffe for the last 3 yrs. I would be willing to bet first found pick.
For the last time it does not matter which sports make money and which ones lose money. not in court of law, not to the NCAA. No matter how many times people bring up mens football makes money womens sports lose money. It is still not going to amount to a hill of beans. It is what it is. So find a new argument.
one question Why???? no one is knocking down the door to hire him away. why do it????
in response to GerryOP: Amen brother. Let's look forward to next year. Nothing at stake tonight. Stokes had another double-double. Good job Jarnell! Trae had 20. Good job Trae! Hope the rest of you guys had a good time ... with no pressure. So what if they were to win the NIT? Doubt if UT would find a big market for t-shirts bragging about "We're #69." Write tonight off to charity ... you made Mercer's day! Hey guys, good job. For the 2nd year in a row you exceed most predictions. Thanks! Have a great summer and come back in September/October ready to go back to work. Thanks for all you have done for Dear Old UT!

After reading this "sunshine pumped up my rear" post. I am going to have to go the dermatologist to have my colon checked for melanoma. Nobody but you gerry but at least you find the bright side.
I am a vols fan stuck in bama. All I hear on the radio is how bama and auburn basketball fans want bruce pearl. As they radio hosts put it he rejuvenates dead programs. they are actually talking about letting barbi coach another year at auburn just for the chance to hire bruce in 2014.
how much longer until our real coach is able to come back this interim coach team's are hard to watch.

"Hart went to UT job knowing he likely would not be considered for the top job at AL."and that tells you all you need to know about dave hart. I am so tired of UT taking stuff other sec schools would not even consider.

This is basketball, no one plays great all the time and if you don't shoot free throws well or make shots, you lose.. Can't win them all. And yes, we are an NCAA team but we will see. I'm tired of hearing about beating teams with asterisks beside them. WE haven't had our best player ALL SEASON!! With these guys returning plus Maymon, next year will be a great year! This one is not over yet..

Above is the same type of fan that would be content to see dooley getting ready for his fourth year coaching vols football and talking about how this year will be different. I think whining for whining sake is pathetic. But so is no telling the truth when your team does not show up and yes coaching is part of it.
in response to MidTennVol: Wow...I liked Dooley a lot and always hoped he would succeed...but this guy Jones, wow...what he's already done with the way he runs practices, the way he treats lettermen, and now what he's already done in our next recruiting class...I am impressed.

We just did not know what a real coach could do.
"Every session and every drill, he said, will have a winner and loser."
I love that.

agreed and I do not believe that it is necessarily on coach jones I feel the administration is hindering UT athletics. but that is another story.
All I am saying is auburn hires the likes of rodney garner and we do not if you do not see the difference you are dellusional.
Another MAC standout added to the "Greatest staff in the nation."
Until we address the academic requirements that make it harder to recruit a UT (which geographically is already a challenge)than bama, LSU or Fl we are going to be behind the eight ball in recruiting no matter who they hire. However, kudos to butch for a solid hire.

both of you cool out a bit. It is obvious you both love UT. The real question is who does coach jones hire. I my self would like someone with southern recruiting ties. I think jones is smart enough not to roll out another former assistant mid-west/big east,MAC coach and try to sell it as the "best staff in America".
oh what a real coach could have done with this talent.

I heard we are looking at a rb coach at northern Illinois to add to the greatest staff in America. This is a joke. Auburn hires rodney garner we hire big east and mac specials with no southern recruiting ties. Be honest vol nation do we not see the difference. It may not be Jones it may not be hart but something is wrong with our school. If you are honest with yourselves you know it also. You can not win in the SEC doing this. And if you can not win in the sec this athletic Dept will lose money.

mike you know it is true just take off the orange sun glasses and look at the moves our school makes compared to others in the SEC. I do not like it but I can call an ace an ace and a deuce a deuce.
We make the one of the two guys on the staff with southern recruiting ties the lowest paid man on the staff. real smart. Now he will be replaced by a mid-west big east coach to help round out the "Best staff in America". Meanwhile auburn hires rodney garner and Damain Graig and scores a top 10 recruiting class. Face it fellow vols fans our UT Administration is not serious about being competitive in the SEC. I will say again we are not ready to play big boy sec football and until we are we will continue to lose money.

my bad aug 24, 2014 so I guess we bozo I mean conzo coach one more season.
again I will ask why can auburn who is surrounded by bama, Ga, and FL. Have a team that layed down a lot last year with 3 season wins have a top 10 recruiting class. Why can they hire assistant coaches/recruiters like Rodney Garner (who everyone knows recruited a lot of our 1998 national championship team here at Tennessee) and Damian Graig. While we have a staff full of big east coaches. I like coach jones a lot but if you can not see the difference in our staff and Auburn you are lying to your self.
Well I wish CBJ would have selected us a SEC caliber running Back.

in response to eyewild: Orangeman 1 last time I checked Butch Jones was hired 4 or 5 days before the December dead period in which him and the coaches could not visit recruits till early Jan. so where is the three months that he has had to recruit? Just asking how you expect him to come in behind Dooley who made it a point to not visit during the season and make up all that ground with the 5 star recruits along with the fact that Kiffin had half a class recruited by fulmer and dooley inherited kiffins recruits who mostly were higher rated than what dooley recruited. So how about we give the coaches at least through the florida or alabama game before we start bashing them to badly.

A good start would have been hire a bang up recruiter as an assistant. Like auburn with rodney garner and Arkansas with randy shannon. Auburn lost more games than us go head to head with alabubba and Georgia but will still finish higher in recruiting than us.
Less be totally honest for a minute. This coach is trying. But what bothers me is Auburn hires assistant rodney garner all you guys remember how good of recruiter he is. Arkansas hires randy shannon same story. Now tell me why we could not hire some one on this level. I have a feeling it is the same reason we did not get our first choice of head coaches. Now I love butch jones I think he is a tireless recruiter but if you think Auburn and Arkansas do not have a head start on us because of the assistants they hired you are lying to yourself. I am slowly coming to the conclusion My vols have internal problems higher than even the AD. Go vols

maybe that is because phil will not take a position coaching job. The former head coach before butch jones and after lane kiffin. who I do not use his name because he is not worth it will never hold a head coaching job in the pros or college again.
a 5* is a 5* no matter where he is from great work coach jones. I must be honest I was nervous when Auburn hired rodney Garner and Arkansas hired Randy Shannon. I thought why can't we hire guys like that and for the short term if you think it does not give those schools a leg up on recruiting over UT you are lying to your self. However, I think coach jones has a staff that has been with him a long time and works well together. If I had won before with my staff I would not change it either. So now we are starting to see how hard they are working to up the recruiting bar at UT. The last coach here (I will no longer use his name)did a lot of damage in the Chattanooga area and his staff basically stopped recruiting half way through last year. So it is good to see Coach jones and Staff working hard.
I like Coach jones a lot I think he is a proven winner. He has had success with his staff by his side and I do not blame him for his staff being made up of people he has worked with. Does it make me nervous that Auburn hire Rodney Gardner and Arkansas hires Randy Shannon? You dang right it does. Any of you who do not think that gives those two schools a leg up on UT in recruiting on the short term are lying to your selves. I still do not understand why we can't hire guys like that to recruit but so be it. There are obviously problems with UT higher up than the football coach. Those stars by these recruits mean something if not then alabama would not be in the top 3 in recruiting every year. I feel that coach Jones is a tireless worker and will do well I hope.

in response to rockytopwestone: He absolutely should have been fired after the Kentucky game last year. We went the whole season and the team got better at nothing ! One whole season wasted. No he did something last year he and his staff stopped recruiting half way through the year and set the football program even deeper in a hole. Not only that but due to Sal's and other new assistant's buyouts it would have been cheaper to fire him and the rest after the ky game in 2012.
We can not read to much into this year. but if next year he can not land a top 10 class then you might as well get used to .600 football. This is simply the nature of the SEC. I hope this works out for us.
Anyone still thinks the last coach here before coach jones did not wreck this program is nuts. I will not even say his name anymore. Coach D or any of former staff did not recruit at all this last year. They phoned it in half way through the year. He should have been fired after the South Car. loss. We would have been way better off chaney as interim. At least Kiffen left some recruits.
in response to iowavol: JU, please explain. I've read your post three-four times and can't understand the message. Help. What disadvantages does the program have tied to the governor or board of trustees?

excessive academic requirements that other sec schools do not have to deal with. Academia have their hand in Athletic Dept money for 6 mil a year up until this year no other sec school has this.
I hope brey stays Coach jones would be good for him. Coach jonse could still run his one back hurry up just use the baack as the main runner and let brey throw.
One suggestion CP go to your team meetings it is not like college classes optional. good luck
in response to ProfessionalHandicapper: YOU PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS!! I'm speaking to ones that want Bray to leave. First off 4 year senior starters at QB with not much talent are a commodity. Bray has a ton of talent and SEC experience. His first years he had no OL, last year he had no defense. Bray is the first NFL talent since Peyton Manning. You idots wished away Bryce brown, OKU, Janzen Jackson,DaRick Rodgers, Aaron Douglas all NFL caliber talents and look at the dissaster called UT football. You better hope every ounce of talent stays to compete with the Big Boys again. Experience can't be replaced and Bray has more than any returning QB in the SEC. Grow up and realize that 55mph arms dont grow on trees. And quit bashing kids who decide to proceed with their careers. It's their life to lead and their God given talent.

very well said about brey. I still say if he had more coaching he would have been number one overall pick this year. players are made from super recruits.
in response to tennesseeduke: They don't play defense! CDD made a bad hire and decision to go 3-4 with SS. Imagine if the defense would been in the top 35 like last years? TennesseedukeCDD deserves every bit of the bashing he gets as is evident by the bridges he burned with high school coaches in the area and how much harder this team played for chaney when he was fired. Should have been let go earlier. That being said he is gone and the future looks bright.
He will be a lot better next year. It generally takes two years to fully recover from that injury. Good look wish you could have stayed. I think you would have had a breakout year next year. but go have it in the pros.
This does not surprise me there is problems on the hill higher up than the football coach. Until these problems are addressed we will see "yes men" hired who hire more "yes men" under them. Please do not take this as anything against butch jones it is not. However, the truth is the truth.
in response to SneakyPete: Per Tony Basilio: The back story on Tee Martin's visit is really interesting. Tee told a couple of folks in the community that I keep in touch with that he didn't really feel wanted when he came back. And who could blame him? His visit didn't get off to a very good start when he greeted by folks snapping his picture as he came through security with his family only to find that he was on his own as far as transportation. That's right. Tee Martin and family had to rent their own car. No ride (which is the bare minimum UT should've done) was provided for Tee and family. You would think that if UT was trying to woo him off a top staff in college football they could at least send a ride. And this is NO reflection on Butch Jones. He hasn't been here long enough. If this thing called Tennessee football is going to get fixed, these folks need to all be pulling in the same direction. Tee conveyed to a couple of folks I spoke with last night that he drove himself to campus only to get confused as to where he was supposed to go. Apparently a few things have changed facilities wise and he was crossed up. After meandering around for 15 or so confusing minutes Martin figured out where he was going. This just makes no sense. We have to be better than this. First of all, with UT's budget a Chariots of Hire Limo should've gotten him and his family! Period. End of sentence. I don't put any of this on Butch Jones. I also learned that while Tee was in Knoxville he received a call from Lane Kiffin offering him a substantial raise to stay at USC. At the end of the day, Tennessee was $150,000 short per year of USC's new offer. Tennessee offered $350,000 which is a more than fair market value. Only USC had just offered $500,000 minutes before the meeting began with Butch Jones. That's a lot of cheese for a wide receivers coach. If Butch Jones is going to get it right at Tennessee, little things like that car ride and the misplay on the whole Martin deal need to be buttoned up. UT is better than this. At least they should aspire to be anyway.

what happened to the kevin Steele level DC. Well what do we expect I bet they did not give him much of budget to work with. I like coach jones I really do He might do great I hope he does. But he is a gamble and until ut gets prepared to spend 4 to 5 mil on a head coach and 4 to 5 mil on assistants we will be gambling on some one coming up. I say 4 to 5 mil because that is what our competition is doing FL, Bama, and LSU. The bad part about gambles see the dooley era they cost you more money on the back end than you save on the front. It is just the truth.
There is only 3 people with southern ties for recruiting. The DC was horrible at GA. Love the coach but the staff is by no means the best in the country.
How much longer until we can hire coach pearl back.
in response to 10seVol85_Part_Deux: Well, there can be a lot of reasons for accepting or not accepting a job. I would love to have had him take the job at UT, but apparently it isn't in his family's best interest right now. There are possibilities some of you a-holes calling him a traitor aren't even considering. For example, his and Toya's eldest will be nine years old in March. Since he started school, he has already been uprooted a lot. They moved to New Mexico when he was about to start kindergarten, then moved to Kentucky when he was starting first grade, and again to California when he was starting third grade. Because of being in the military, my son had to move a lot at a young age too. He attended three schools by the time he got to fourth grade, and he had a difficult time with it. I can certainly see how that situation could have weighed heavily in Tee and Toya's decision. That's just one of the things it seems you folks don't want to consider. It's like a lot of you think nothing should enter into it except it's UT vs Kiffin.
