I have rarely seen the Vols play so poorly as they did last night at the Rose Bowl. They just stunk up the place, and the coaching seemed just plain feeble. Keep in mind though that this was Crompton's first full game in several years and he is bound to get better as the year goes on. (Peyton Manning threw 6 interceptions in his first full game.) I am going to try not to panic and hope for the best. Adams is right when he calls the Vols resilient. We did win the SEC Eastern Division last year and that is something any SEC team must first do to compete for the SEC trophy.

I saw all of the Bama game. I was very impressed with their efficiency and power running game. Wilson did a good job with a dink and dunk passing game. We need to be prepared for them in October, or we will lose big time!

I have been keeping up with the SEC teams who are playing non conference games in this first week. Georgia, Florida, LSU, and lowly Vanderbilt have already won their games by very large margins. I read somewhere that SEC teams on the average beat non conference opponents about 80% of the time, a percentage that is by far the best in the country. We should be thankful Tennessee is playing in the best conference in the nation. We finished 12 in the country last year and probably would have finished higher if we had been in a lesser conference, say the ACC. But I would not want to play in any other conference except the SEC. I am going to have to leave now to pull for Mississippi State to defeat Louisiana Tech and for Alabama to defeat Clemson. Hopefully Tennessee will meet an undefeated Bama and use them to vault into the top ten.

Even as I write this, I am listening to ESPN go on and on about the wonder and beauty and perfection of Tim Tebow. Just once, could they profile some other player besides him? What about Eric Berry, Crompton, or another SEC player? It is just too much to stomach on a beautiful day for football!

All of this drama already and the season has not even begun! Are the stars aligning properly for a stellar year in football for 2008 and 2009 for the Volunteers?

All this talk about orange Kool-Aid has led me to the kitchen to experiment with a new drink called the Orange and Wiped (white). Here it is:
In a tall clear glass, mix the following:
2 jiggers Jack Daniels
1 and 1/2 jiggers of sweet orange Kool-Aid powder
1 jigger of lemon juice, more or less to taste
2 hefty slivers of orange
Unsweet iced tea
Mix thoroughly
Add ice and serve chilled
Have a good time, drink responsibly, and root for the Volunteers!

Sixth!
On Hardesty makes moves, but Fulmer says scrimmage 'wasn't what we wanted'

I like the way Fulmer handled the situation. He pulled Coach Michael and Brandon out of a meeting and told them the good news. Fulmer then placed a call to the man's sick mother and told her the good news. Would another coach, such as Meyer or Saban, have done the same thing? Maybe, maybe not. While we fans may not think too much of this one way or the other, there is one group of people who will recognize a compassionate coach. I am talking about a large number of high school students who hear about this incident and who have yet to decide if they will commit to the Vols!

I don't think anyone knows exactly what this offense will look like when we play Florida, but I am pretty sure we have been planning something innovative for some time and it may surprise everyone. The offense is supposed to be multifaceted and flexible. Warren is not just a good player but a genuine 4**** player according to Scouts and he could add a totally new dimension to our offense. Aren't you just a little more than worried about the Tennessee-Florida game after hearing the news about Warren? Remember, too, we are playing in Knoxville.

No, Tennessee was not the best team in the SEC last year. I thought Georgia was the best and that LSU was second best. I really do not care if we back into the SEC championship game, or if we enter sideways, or sneak in from the rear. Winning the SEC always means hoping that some other SEC team will beat some other SEC team at the right point in time, and it also means being really lucky in a lot of cases. So I guess I am saying that I do not care at all how we win the SEC, just so long we win one very, very soon. I am just as hungry for an SEC ring as the next person.
