Funny how everyone loved him when he played for the Vols, now everybody just wants to condemn him to call him names. Simple possession, so what? If this is the worst thing that he does in his life then he will be much better than most of us. A former cop just shot and killed other cops. A crazed gunman shot and killed a bunch of people in a movie theater.

Thanks Dennis for all you did for us while you' we're playing football. I wish things had turned out better for your career. Just learn from your mistakes and I continue to wish you the best.

Sincerely,

A true Vols fan

Ah yes, the bleeding heart post just in time! Dropped out of school because he wouldn't go to class and entered the draft where he didn't have a snowballs chance. Now he's bumming around town doing a little dope, and oh ya! He has a child out of wedlock who he's not supporting. The absolute best thing to do with guys like this is to throw them a pity party. Well, maybe not. Here's another idea Dennis. Just leave town and don't look back. Your 15 minutes are up.

Written on Four Alabama football players arrested on robbery charges:

in response to PUL4VOLS:

So my comment insinuates they should be forgiven and all is well come on back? Thanks for reading what I did not say. I merely remarked that their lives mean much more than playing for the University of Alabama or anywhere else. I guess you unthug never made a mistake, never needed to be given another chance.. Where is your picture posted so we can see how you look?
I agree they need to be gone but not completely given up on. What if...another school, lower level gave them a chance and they took that one seriously and turned their lives around? That does happen. For anyone to intimate they just do not matter because there are other top notch athletes waiting in line to be called up was what bothered me. Your even hinting that I say the coaches and fans should be blamed for their demise shows you did not read what I said. It's on them for their poor decisions. Now it's up to the justice system and what they do beyond its rendered decision. Do you see that point?

I don't care if they turn their lives around or not! That's their issue and problem. The bottom line is that they're four adult men, representing a major university and they beat another man, I assume a fellow student, unconsious, took his credit card and bought snacks or whatever. And no, my pic's would never look like theirs because I've never had a mug shot taken, and I was no angel back in the day. But I never beat someone down for their money either. What if it was your son they pounded on and robbed? Would your heart still bleed for them? Bet not.

Written on Four Alabama football players arrested on robbery charges:

in response to PUL4VOLS:

Young men making terrible choices. That is indeed sad. But sadder still is the attitude it's no big deal if their lives go down the tubes because FB pope Nick can just call up more 4 star players. But that shows poor choice on a fan's part; the kids' lives do not matter, only that they get to play for almighty Alabama... That may be saddest of all.

Oh, give me a break pal. These four thugs have the gift of a life time laid at their feet, and this is how they decide to pay back their incredible good fortune? These are four adult men with the ability to make whatever decisions they want in life. And this is what they chose. Did you take a look at their pics? Not exactly eagle scout material. These four should be gone and never allowed back on campus. And the coach and fans should be blamed for a lack of guidance for these poor little boys you say? Maybe I'm badly missing your point.

It's not even fun to talk about anymore. I don't even see them making the NIT this year. Yes, losing Maymon didn't help but this bunch just looks bad all around. Even on the few occasions when they decided to drive the lane it typically loked like they had no idea how to shoot a lay up. It's just weird.

Of course the senior Haslam did he played on the 51 championship squad. To be honest, I have no idea what our Governor's resume' looks like aside from making tons of money from travel centers.

I've always heard Daddy Haslam, while maybe not making the actual decisions, has at least a very strong say in the way the athletic dept. is run. He's obviously very accomplished in the money making arena and has an endless track record of making successful business decisions. Well, quite honestly it was John Wooden the constable from up Vonore way and it wasn't basketball advice but that's not the point. I was funning a bit with BigBadTard and his assessment of his fellow posters. My point in the end was that a win is a fine thing but this group can do better with the tools they have. An ingredient is missing from Mr. Martins recipe.

Blah, blah, blah cry baby, blah, blah, blah. Look pal, I played and coached for a long, long time as well of being a life time fan and supporter of this program as I still am. Frankly, John Wooden used to come to me for advice. But here's the thing. Yep, we won but if that last tip had been 6 inches higher we wouldn't have and it should have never come down to that. And I don't know if it's coaching or lack of talent or something in the water or whatever but something ain't right with this team. Written on Cuonzo Martin contacts SEC on how Jarnell Stokes is officiated :

I've really grown a bit tired of Martin and his post game excuses. Adjustments that should be made during the game never seem to happen and the team always plays like it's up to it's arse in alligators. As far as Stokes, his size made him stand out as a high school player, but playing against guys his own size at this level it seems maybe he's been exposed as perhaps a tight end trying to play basketball. He takes up alot of space but there's doesn't seem to be much touch or finesse around the basket.

Written on Mike Strange: Is Jordan McRae being asked to do too much? :

in response to hikerdude:

Remember 5 years ago when UT basketball was fun and exciting? BBB

I remember fondly and miss it badly but don't look for them to bring Bruce back. Just too much bad press when he left. Somebody else will hire him and they'll have lots of fun there. He did what most other coach's do at major universities as far as recruiting but handled it poorly when he got busted. Super coach, super motivator bad decision when it counted.

Written on Mike Strange: Is Jordan McRae being asked to do too much? :

Watching this team week in and week out is like scratching a bad rash. The harder you itch and the more you want the problem to go away it just seems to get worse. There is some good talent on this team, but they don't seem to know how to work as a unit (at all) They always seem to be in panic mode with no sign of any sort of game plan. Losing Maymon for the season certainly hurt but not to the extent that people seem go on about. He's a solid player but not exactly a blue chipper. They just don't seem to have any chemistry or continuity and it really shows the last five minutes of most games. I've never been a McRae fan but without the guy right now they'd really be in a world of hurt. I'm not a coach basher, but this guy just doesn't seem to be able to find a way to get the best out of the guys he's got. I listened to an interveiw this morning and he sounds like a broken record. Quotes a few stats and talks about working on getting better. Oh, well. Thought about going to Thompson Boling today but decided against it. Could probably get a good deal on tickets but I can get frustrated at home for alot less money.

Written on Cuonzo Martin contacts SEC on how Jarnell Stokes is officiated :

in response to Ironcity:

The problem doesn't lie with the refs they lie with the coach. He has shown that he is a patsy. By saying nothing when all coaches scream bloody murder indicates he agrees with the refs. Thus they look for the next foul from the big bully (Stokes). The season for all purposes is over. Its to late to change the dynamics. The refs already have a bulls eye on Stokes and that wont come off until next season. It didn't have to be that way but coach let it be that way. Its a shame it has taken this long for Martin to see what everyone in the world has seen. The irony here is because of the way they are calling Stokes they are laying off of Hall. Suddenly he non longer gets the ticky tack calls he always got before. I hope Martin has learned his lesson, if you want to play in a big boys league you better make sure the refs respect you or your going to get abused. Right now coach Martin is getting abused. Lets hope that changes soon for UT and coach Martins sake.

I tend to agree. His passive attitude has set the standard for how the guys in stripes make alot of these ticky tak calls. How many charging calls went against Tennessee to start the 2nd half? And they just weren't there. I kept waiting for him to go nuts- but nothing. Just walk up and down in front of the bench and straighten the tie. Nobody likes a whiney coach but show a little emotion just to let the guys know your heads in the game.

Sklar Mcbee

Awwww, now samvol. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, but I'm entitled to my opinion just as you are. This is a high dollar program in a high dollar venue with a high dollar coaching staff and the results just aren't there. As a long time supporter and a paying customer I do expect more. I do not expect these guys to win every game, but I do expect a far better effort in finishing games out. When the going gets tough this group folds like a cheap suit.

Written on Marshall Henderson talks the talk, walks the walk as Ole Miss sweeps UT, 62-56:

I suppose you can do better? one thing i can say for all the players you are demeaning is that they were smart enough to get a FREE education...unlike you who never had any talent to do so.

It has nothing to do with being "smart" enough born2ride. These guys are all given a gift in the form of a free education at a major university in exchange for enertaining the alumni and fan base who pay the bills for the athletic department, and frankly they're not doing much entertaining. And I challenge you to write down the name of every current player on the roster and at the end of their 4 years of "paid in full" at the University of Tennessee which ones have a diploma in hand.

Written on Marshall Henderson talks the talk, walks the walk as Ole Miss sweeps UT, 62-56:

This Vol team just is what it is. Don't expect things to change. Martins laid back coaching style just doesn't inspire the team to get tough. But forget Pearl coming back. He would probably love to but what administration in history has ever rehired a coach under those circumstances? Bottom line for this team is they just don't have a take control guy like Lofton to finish games out. I don't even think Golden would make a decent 2nd guard on most teams. He's just not good. I basically spent the entire 2nd half hoping someone would re-construct Hendersons smile. Punk of the century, I don't care how good he is. What do you think Coach K. for Duke of any other 1st class coach would do with that idiot? Go ahead and outfit him with $50,000 in arm ink and send him on to the NBA. He would make an ideal poster child for todays NBA.

Please.... This team lost THE key player in Maymon. How many teams can survive the loss of their top player. Stokes is also a very young kid. I am embarrassed by the comments of some of you sidewalk alumni. Support these kids and hope for the best. I think Cuonzo is a solid coach and if he can get the results in recruiting he will be fine for a long time to come. We have such a culture that says if it not a success immediately then "fire the guy". Success is a process. If American businesses worked that way unemployment would be 50%. I am encouraged by the way these guys fight from behind and the character that these kids show on the court. Keep supporting them.

That's a nice positive post but you seem to be missing the point. Supporting the coach and team is all well and good but the bottom line is building a competitive program that's technically sound. I'm not saying fire the coach. But all too often this team looks like a rec team playing school yard ball with no focus or direction. The end result is endless frustration and empty seats. You can cheer all you like but if this coach and his staff can't fill seats and pay their bills, they're in trouble. And this guys brand of basketball ain't paying the bills.
