lawvol, Mat 13:58 also tells us that Jesus didn't do many miracles in Nazareth because of their unbelief in His message.
Sorry for hijacking the thread but the error expressed by lawvol pervades and harms our society- the whole notion that Christianity's ideals and influence are to be compartmentalized, restricted, and distinctly separated from societies institutions and the public square.

"I believe Jesus multiplied the loaves of bread and the number of fish before he started his sermon."
John 6 demonstrates your belief to be incorrect.
Did you find a reference somewhere that the Tebow's required a religious profession/conversion before they gave medical treatment or medicine? Is there any suggestion that all they asked was that those getting FREE medical treatment listen to their testimony concerning the One in whose name the treatment was being given?

"I think that it is disgusting that you go to an impoverished community, and require the people in dire need of medical assistance to listen to a sermon before you help them. Nothing like coerced religion."
Who got coerced lawvol? That's a ridiculous assertion. It isn't coercion to minister to people's spiritual needs by OFFERING the gospel while ministering to their physical needs. No matter what our PC society might have indoctrinated you with... a person does not have a "right" NOT to hear or see religious expression in public or when receiving charity.
They were following the example of Christ Himself. He never seperated the gospel from good works. In John 6 we get an account where He perceived that the crowd was following Him just to get free food. He instead gave them a strong gospel message. The Bible records that many of His disciples didn't follow Him anymore after that.
I hope he goes 0-22 with 7 INT's when UF plays UT but Tebow's personal testimony through word and deed is exceptional.

I didn't say CPF was right for tolerating Chavis' failure to be a better recruiter. My question is why you blamed Fulmer for failing to recruit players then dropping them in Chavis' lap while he did nothing. It seems you were intentional skipping Chavis to make one more dig at CPF.
CPF was wrong to tolerate Sanders. Chavis was more active this year but CPF has been wrong to tolerate him too... But Chavis is a big boy and there's no reason he should have accepted that failure in himself if he's any kind of professional.
So why did you avoid criticizing Chavis?

"Tenth year-same results and it will go on until Mr. Haslam or Thornton pick up the phone. Which may be sooner than you think."
Sooner than I think? I have said what I think should be happening. IF CPF is pushed out after failing to improve this fall then something not too far from what I've suggested probably HAS been occurring.
If you think guys with the qualities needed to lead a top class athletic program are going to fire from the hip on CPF the way you seem to be suggesting then you are out of your mind. Unless Hamilton can hold a press conference and say "We set goals and gave Coach Fulmer every opportunity to meet them...." then there's no way he'll be fired.
If he were to have a bad year and retire on his own that would be an indication that goals and standards had been communicated and that he knew he'd failed to meet them.

pdhuff, hope you see this.
UT is not doing "nothing". There have been changes in the program. It seemed apparent to me through the discipline problems that they were being handled more consistently.
Yes the change at OC was due to Cut's departure. OTOH, Cut's O was performing well enough to win the SEC. CPF's career hinges on his buddy Chavis returning to form after two bad years. I don't envy that position but that's what it is.
I don't "KNOW" there's no one better than CPF but from what we do KNOW that is the most reasonable conclusion. The only guy in a comparable league that has proven he can both coach and recruit without a base is Hawkins. If you say different then name the guy.
His results btw are winning the East 4 of the last 7 years, yada, yada, yada... Again, you have to parse the data to make it say what YOU want it to.
The "risk" btw is never having a top 25 much less a top 10 recruiting class and becoming UK, USC, or Arkansas on the field. You seem to think UT is an automatic in the top 25 or that a bad hire couldn't tank the program for decades... you're wrong.
The recruiting base is NOT the nation. MOST blue chippers will stay home if given a chance.
So you want to make long term decisions based on aberrations? The UF and Bama losses while sickening are by no stretch the norm and you know it.

"If Coach Fulmer would have helped this kid more while he was at UT, maybe he wouldn't have turned out so bad. Unreal. But this once again proves that John Adams was correct."
This statement is stupid. No coach can baby sit 100 players that are in a program much less those that are out of it. A coach can do his best to be a positive influence for 4 or 5 years but it is unreasonable to blame every guy that goes bad on his coach... Why not go back and blame his Pop Warner coach?... He had the kid in his "formative years" so his culpability must be many times that of his college coach, right?

"We're full of two stars playing as, well, two stars."
Have you been possessed? You've gone from skeptical to downright cynical here lately. You are going out of your way to make things sound much worse than they are in contradiction to the facts. UT MAY have 2 former 2* seeing significant playing time this fall- Elix Wilson and Cooper.
Based on the current depth chart the starters will be: 2 5*, 7 4*, 1 3*, and 1 2* on defense - 5 4*, 5 3*, and one 2* on offense.
Of the five 3* on O, three were good enough to get NFL evals as JRs, one caught 56 passes in 2007, and the other is your pick of 6'7" 270 lb TE's- Stocker or Cottam.

"besides eric berry....who will start for tenn that has the potential to be all-sec?"
"Potentially"- Morley, Williams, McCoy, Vinson, Rogan/Willigham, McNeil, Parker, A Foster, R Foster, Taylor, Briscoe, Jones,... and an outside shot with one of the DE's or a TE.
Cyanide swallowers don't have a cow... the question was "who has the potential".

geoff our founders established a gov't with three equally empowered branches of gov't all deriving their rightful powers from the people.
The most powerful element of the judiciary was NOT supposed to be judges but rather juries. Liberals have manipulated the system to elevate the judiciary above the other branches and judges to the position of autocrats in the judicial system... and most Americans accept this corruption without pause or concern.
