Written on Mike Strange: Tennessee needed a fresh start and Butch Jones gives them one :

in response to Pipe_Down_Otis:

What is all this stuff Hart is saying, about talking to players and coaches about Jones. He didn't speak to him before 10pm thursday night. I don't think he talked to anybody about Jones before then because he thought someone else would take the job first, especially Strong. And I know he didn't call a former player or coach at 3am Friday........

You don't thnk they screened more than one candidate at a time during a two week period?
I would guess you are wrong.

Written on Watch Butch Jones Cincinnati press conference at 10 a.m.:

in response to brokendownoldvol:

Didn't Dooley beat Cincinatti last yr worse than any team while he coached at UT? :((

And Jones beat Vandy. Does that mean that Dooley is a better coach than Franklin?
In other words, it is an irrelevant point.
The man has been a head coach for the past 6 years and has won 4 conference championships.

Finally someone who is the voice of reason! Unfortunately you can't reason with these idiots on here who can't even back up what they say with facts. If I were an AD trying to keep my coach I would print out all the negative phooey these so called fans post and show it to that coach. These people are delusional and unrealistic. I will be there at every game like always supporting the team and whoever the new coach is and that doesn't mean I accept mediocrity either. GBO!

Rational thought in a forum such as this is uncommon.
Thank you, and cmk, also.

Within the hour, UT will announce their new head football coach, a true 'leader' of men, former Green Beret, Navy SEAL and Army Ranger... MacGruber!

He was raised in the Appalachians and walked 5 miles back and forth to school everyday-- uphill both ways...in the snow...wearing gym shoes...without a coat...could only dream of riding someone around on a motorcycle...

Written on Tennessee coach search better than any roller coaster:

in response to TheRealDragonSlayer:

Butch Davis may be a much better play than Petrino. Butch builds strong defensive teams, and that is what we need in the SEC..that is why Strong being in the mix was exciting for us. Petrino, even when he succeeded at Arkansas, was focused way too much on offense. If he does come here, I will absolutely support him, but I am wishing for Butch Davis.

Me, too. I've said it several times on here. And, I don't understand why Mike Leavitt and Greg Roman haven't been mentioned.

Written on Reports: UT has sights set on Charlie Strong; decision could come as early as Wednesday :

in response to orangecountyvols:

10SE85, Shipperman, and other real Vols,

You are absolutely correct about this troll, Jeff Flowers, aka Karl Kremser hater, aka Glenn Ford hater. We know what 99% of the people here on GVX think of Jeffery and his 3 partners of misery. The fraud isn't man enough to take his rants to Ford and Kremser.
Hence, the coward.

Anyone who is so consumed with certain people as evidenced by the never ending crying and moaning over the two former Vol players, plus the incessant bashing of a coach who is no longer in the picture..........that clearly tells us this 'individual' has serious mental problems. Calling himself a 'real Vol fan,' and the 'alumnus reference,' as if he's the only one who can claim that' is an embarrassment to the many proud Tennessee grads who went on to achieve something in their lives without bragging all the time.

This guy and his little army of 3 'brothers' aren't going to change. They're proud of the negativity they spout and at this point don't really care how childish they sound. You aren't supposed to wish something tragic to befall this guy and his 'band' but as the old saying goes........'he's asking for it."

Good one.

Written on Reports: UT has sights set on Charlie Strong; decision could come as early as Wednesday :

his current recruiting class is ranked 7th out of 8 in the big east who says he can recruit. This is not a good hire not compared to gundy of fedora.

Do not give me that bs about class rankings do not mean anything until signing day. We are coming up on the dead period when do people think he is going to strengthen his class. bargin basement hire.

That ranking is currently based upon just 10 commits. When signing day comes, he will be at the top like he has been the past three years (if he is still at Louisville, of course).

He could go to Florida after the Sugar Bowl and get left-overs and close that gap easily.

Jon Gruden to accept the coaching position at the University of Tennessee following a meeting with Hart in which Peyton Manning has now sweetened the deal by offering (2) of his (38) Papa Johns Pizza Stores. As well Phillip Fulmer has agreed to give up his weekend rights to " All You Can Eat" bread stiks at Pizza Hut.The deal however was placed on hold when Phillip had second thoughts and withdrew his bread stiks. Phillip stated " I love the university , but sometimes you just have to draw the line".Peyton sitting across from Phillip stated " Better Fixins , Better Pizza , Papa Johns. Gruden stated by phone " No Deal Lucile " ....but remember and don't get discouraged...He did say Lucile....

Written on Tennessee, Kentucky prepare for kickoff at Neyland Stadium :

in response to GerryOP:

Most adults usually understand that beating a dead horse is only a show of your own ignorance and it doesn't affect the dead horse one bit. You may question Derek Dooley's ability to do the job he was hired to do, but he gave his all for Tennessee. Sometimes you're better off simply saying "Thank you" and then moving on. That would be the adult thing to do.

Agreed.
Also, at what point do we put it on the players?
UT has never gone winless in the SEC. Obviously, that doesn't mean much to this group.
UT is one of two programs in the country that has never lost 8 games in a season. Obviously, that doesn't mean much to this group.
Just listless.

There should be no interest in an unproven coach from a mid-major EVER AGAIN. And if you think 1 good year at Temple in the Atlantic 10 is "proving himself", think again....

I don't think anything.
You placed "proving yourself" in quotations. I did not say that.
I am merely saying that he has been talked to.
I have stated no opinion about that fact.

Written on Vanderblowout: Tennessee loses to Vanderbilt in Nashville for first time since 1982 :

No he can't. And he can't recruit either. Building a Temple team in the "oh so tough" Atlantic 10 conference is NOTHING. They didn't join the Big East until 2012, when Golden bolted for Miami...and his recruiting there sucked...much like his football team does this year.

You are going to hear his name.
Cry to someone else about that fact.
However, I am not saying he is getting the job, just that he has been contacted as to his interest.
