How about your 1.5 and done on the team now Stokes?

Truthfully if Tennessee could land 2-3 one and dones for next years team they would love to have them. And UT homers like you would love it too.

People who understand the system know that it is a NBA rule which is broken and needs to be fixed. So spare us the lecture

Yeah, I think the second loss was the one right before UT beat down your slimy lizards at TBA.

So tired of all the "I miss Bruce", "Bring Bruce back", "If Bruce was here" blah, blah, blah. I liked Bruce just as much as anyone else, but hey, all he had to do was tell the truth when asked. My goodness, he should have known they knew about the picnic when the bloodhounds asked him. Anyway, he is gone and will not be back. We have Martin now, and I believe he is what we need at this point. As far as many of these posters, get your facts right before showing your ignorance. Chattbud, this team averaged for the season 66 points a game, far more than 50 as you mentioned. Tomcat, a majority on this sight look forward to seeing Witch Doctors witty post. Lighten up, life is too short. SevenT, would worry more about your own team, you know, the one that got schooled by Vandy. The only thing that eased the pain from the loss yesterday was watching the Kitty fans in the stands with the look of disbelief. I got to see that look at TB arena during the 30 point beatdown. Actually, most of them resorted to texting on their phones, playing games on their phones, or getting a jump on their long trip back home. Anyway, hated we lost just as much as any true Vol fan. Don't think the team was not trying. They looked tired and sluggish for some reason. Realized they had just played a game the day before, but, so did Vandy. Stokes was sucking air at one point. Kind of wonder if they were so tight knowing the importance of this game that they wore themselves down before the game ever started. It can happen. Have enjoyed this another year of UT basketball. For those of you that have thought this is boring basketball, you have not watched the games I have this year. I forgot, it is only boring ball to watch when we lose (according to many on here) Hope we make the Big Dance. If we don't, we don't. Its not like it is the end of the world. Will be pulling for them whichever tourney they do make. IT IS GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL. GO BIG ORANGE.

I think you're confused...this isn't the Orlando Sentinel.

Written on Mark Wiedmer: Does UT control its NCAA destiny?:

By my math, if UT wins out, they could end up anywhere between 2nd and 5th in the SEC. Obviously, a top-4 finish would be great since it would get them a 2-game bye. Then again, a bye didn't exactly help them last year.

This is a team that's clicking right now, and I'm enjoying the fire out of watching them play. They just have to guard against complacency and remember that no games are ever won on paper. CCM and the Vols have much to be proud of over the last 3 weeks.

in response to BillVol:

Always remember that Mike Strange is a Kentucky native and a U. of Kentucky grad.

So...I didn't find anything in the article that I disputed. He included a lot of quotes from UT players and coaches/ex-coaches alike. It is what it is. UK is a storied basketball program. They have a tradition they can be proud of. UT is an average basketball program. Anytime we can beat UK it's special. I don't really think there's any "pro-UK" bias in this article, though.

Written on Mike Strange: Vols-Cats: It takes two for the rivalry tango :

in response to hodocka:

Its not a rivalry when 1 team wins all the time. This game is big for us, not so much for Ky

I disagree for two reasons. First, a loss would do quite a bit of damage to their tournament prospects, at least as far as the seeding. Secondly, they make the trek to Knoxville every year and end up making half of TBA blue, so obviously it means SOMETHING to them.
Anyway, today should be a good game. Stokes has really come along since the meeting in Lexington, so I like our chances.

Written on Poll: How would you rate Tennessee's 2013 signing class?:

OK, who REALLY thought CBJ was going to land a recruiting class anywhere near the top 25? Not this guy. THis guy is amazing at what he can do! I for one am quite excited at our prospects over the next couple years. GBO!!!!

If people answered the poll honestly, there is no way UT fans arent disappointed right now. I get all the talk about Jones only having 3 months to recruit for UT, but that doesnt change the fact that the class ,right now, is disappointing. Sure, maybe on signing day, there will be some surprises, but right now this class doesnt seem to be that great.

I guess the only thing I've got is you never know what's going to happen on signing day. We're in rebuilding mode. I am optimistic that we're going to see a better team emerge the next few years.

Enjoy the 10 million dollars you took from the University of Tennessee, and sleep well knowing you set the program back for 3 years, and caused multiple problems for the football program. No hard feelings.

Really, CDD did all that himself? Nope. WRong again, genius. First off, The $5 million buyout was in his CONTRACT...ergo..it was AGREED to by Dooley and Hamilton! And as much as you want to think, Dooley didn't come to Knoxville with the sinister purpose of "setting back the program 3 years," as you so eloquently state. He had a lot of help, but I'm sure your myopic view won't allow you to see the whole picture. You're probably part of the crew that wanted him fired 5 minutes into the job. God, I hope you're not in charge of anyone in your line of work.

GerryOP has been proven right about a lot of things on this board, and I seriously doubt it would take much effort to be proven right about your little mind. to hold Dooley single-handedly responsible for UT's demise is the product of a miniscule brain indeed. But, please, don't stop making an arse out of yourself on my account.

Here's the thing. I'm normally inclined to push the "blame the refs" button...but one has to wonder. UT went about 10 minutes or so into the first half without a foul being called on them. If there were no validity to CCM's complaint, why did the number of foul calls drop like they did? Anyway, glad they pulled one out yesterday. And I guess I owe CCM an apology, because I sold him short after the Ole' Miss loss. i was hoppin' mad like a lot of folks were but Coach called Bama's final play, and had the cajones to call out the refs on Stokes. Apparently he's smarter than many (including myself) maybe gave him credit for.

Ray has the benefit of Stansbury's recruits, after the cupboard is empty we'll see what kind of coach /recruiter he is..As for CCM, his inability to find a PG (i know he claims he doesn't need one) shows a lack of recruiting and/or ineffective coaching..This will not be a gimme for the Vols.

in response to volsnumb1:

What's with all the sky is falling talk? We've played one SEC game! The basketball season is much longer than football, and there is more time to turn around a season. One game can make or break a football season. Not the same in college bball. Poor defense, missed free throws, these are all correctable mistakes. Cuonzo's leadership last season led to runner up in the SEC when no one picked the Vols to come anywhere near that. I've got faith in our guys to turn the defense around. That's our mojo. CCM teams play solid defense and rebound the ball; they may not be as flashy as Pearl's teams were, but after last season, and so far up until this game, it seems they are better disciplined, particularly in defense and rebounding. Give it time folks! The Vols will get it turned around. It's a long season.

As much as I love your optimism, I have to respectfully disagree. UT lost to a mediocre SEC team--I'm sorry, they got WAXED--AT HOME-- by a mediocre SEC team. Have to be concerned about the defensive effort the last two games. This team has had issues scoring for the last few years or so, but they'd always been able to rely on their defense. I can't believe losing Maymon threw this entire team into a tailspin, but there it is. The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding is tasting pretty bad right now. Hope you're right.
