Wow...great story, blessings Justin so you can bless your Mom's heart in many ways!
Reports are that someone who worked with Saban in Cleveland's front office is a strong candidate. Sounds like Saban may be the one driving this wagon.
Reports out of BHM area are that Hart is not under consideration. Sports radio here saying that AL sources saying that Hart went to UT job knowing he likely would not be considered for the top job at AL.
in response to DC82_Vol: Listening to Marlon Walls interview, he sounds very humbled. I liked the fact he stated these coaches are teachers. We had bad coaching last year for sure. I like what I am seeing. But, I am so gun shy right now, I am afraid to get my hopes up. Heck, even Walt is quiet these days. I guess if he doesn't have something negative to say he says nothing at all.

I am finding the player interviews very telling about the deficiencies of the past three years. This interview really helped me to see what happened last year. Its with Jaques Smith. http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/20...
mith believes it's an easier transition back to the defensive line for him since he played there his first two seasons, and he said Stripling is doing more teaching than scolding. "He's a technician," Smith said, "and he's going to get us right."After so much went wrong during a 2012 season that couldn't have been fun for any Tennessee player, Smith is embracing one final season with the Vols and working with a sense of urgency during his final spring practice."It's my last one," he said. "I'm giving it my all. I'm going to be a true Vol this year and represent my state well.
"We just lost the spirit [last season], and that's why I'm excited about this year. This Team 117, I love everything Coach Jones has been embracing this year. This is a new start for the Vols, and we're going to nail it this year."
IMO...The right coaching relationships & methods bring out the best skills in these young men...better yet it strengthens their spirits, and that makes all the difference. And I see that being developed by this much improve coaching staff!
in response to Theo: Here is another question - why does the Chattanooga paper ALWAYS do a better job cover thing UT than the Knoxville or Nashville papers. There is never a story from the Memphis paper on this site so I don't know whether KNS just doesn't bother or the Memphis paper never writes about the Vols. Not only does the Chatt paper write more, they write better. Good grief.

Ditto...could not agree more, it is so obvious!
Congrats & looking forward to seeing that desire fulfilled at UT.
Fisher is almost in the same boat at FL ST that Dooley was in last year here...and the instability is just as bad if not worse when you look and see all the assistants bolting like they did at the end of season for FL ST. IMO, TN is in a better place right now than FL ST...they are a step ahead of FL ST's instability. One bad season now & Fisher might experience the same fate as Dooley and so will Graham.
Coaches are now simply paid mercenaries...no allegiance to anyone but themselves. Evan's eleven article does a good job of explaining the why's of his move...yep, would not be surprised if Tee Martin does not end up there as well.
in response to KVCrockett: I heard that some of the support staff was spotted having a yard sale recently. They had a bunch of orange pants, a ceramic dog and an assortment of other items.

Oh, yeah...you missed all the other items there, you probably could not see them for the mammoth bamboo plants that had grown so tall and green! ;~)

in response to marcoguy: Once in an interview Bum Phillips was asked why Don Shula was such a good coach. Bum's reply was, "Because he can take hizz'in and beat yourn, and take yourn and beat hizz'in." My point is, it doesn't really matter who Butch has as players. He'll win with whomever he has. He took undervalued players at both Central Michigan and Cincinnati and won with them. Butch will make believers out of the Vols too. Plus they will be in the best shape ever. Watch what happens in the fourth quarter next year when the Vols sprint to the other end of the field still fresh and their opponents are dragging.

Agree...really good post, great quote.
in response to volfanlostnbama: I think we'll find out how good a coach he and his staff is against Western KY...With Petrino there now CBJ & staff will reveal how well they can prepare coaching plans & execution against arguably one of the best offensive minds in the business.

Hopefully that fresh start includes this person...ManVol in the VolNation posted this under the heading Tee Martin Just Landed.
I just met him at McGee-Tyson airport. Him and his beautiful wife and child just got off an airplane while I was eating at Ruby Tuesday. Couple people took pictures . I didn't get my phone out in time but did shake his hand. Didn't want to hold him up. GBO.

Sorry...forgot to put the heading from the post
it was "Just saw Tee Martin"
A fitting culmination point through this video to the story of our Coach Butch Jones! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-vHo7...

in response to UMREB1992: The truth is that Coach Majors was right when he referred to some Vol fans as the legion of the miserable. Folks can say all they want about how horrible Kiffin was, but trust me, many of you liked the perceived swagger that he had, and would give your right arm to have a coach get up and tweak Saban, Spurrier, Muschamp, Richt and Franklin. If you win, that's great...if you go 7-5, or worse, it's juvenile. Will Butch Jones work out?? I have no idea. I didn't know whether Hugh Freeze would work out at Ole Miss, but that hire has exceeded everything I hoped for, and the players love him....and so do the recruits we are getting....

Your first line is so spot on...that should be a reminder put some where on BJ's office wall or desk where he is constantly reminded of this fact!
Man, it is just relieving to see some positive stuff said in all the madness of this search. Just way too much mud slinging going on. And its a comment that can be trusted.
in response to Henley-Street-Bridge: One of the few Coaches that Derek Dooley actually beat in his 3 years, and now UT is replacing Dooley with Butch Jones. Can someone afford a one-way bus ticket to Alabama for HART?

Wes Rucker tweeted a good answer to your question...and I agree with the logical conclusion to your reasoning...
Steve Spurrier and Mark Richt lost to Joker Phillips. They should be fired, too, obviously.
The biggest problem I see with this hire, and I voted yes in the poll, is his offensive philosophy history. If he stays in the same style he's always coached, it doesn't bode well for keeping our present players who have another year. And certainly doesn't bode well for Worley & Peterman and probably most of our offensive recruits. Will be interesting to hear him address this in the press conference. Somebody on the beat report field better bring it up.

Tonight here in Birmingham at the close of the Paul Finebaum Show, who is a UT grad and seems to still care about UT & was pulling for the Strong hire, reported that the man behind the Vegas Insider website was reporting that Al Golden was Hart's first offer and that he turned it down & that Kirby Smart was the next contact & he declined to even be interviewed by TN. All of this well before Gundy & Strong. If this is true I really wonder who in the world we wind up with. Seems like there is something that is wrong behind the scenes that people inside the business see or know that we sure don't. Hope it gets cleaned up and cleared up soon. They are also reporting here that Strong has nixed a deal tonight that would have put him well within the top 10 paid coaches in college football.
Volquest is tweeting that Hart's car is parked just outside the Pilot Jet hangar and he is no where to be found.

Yep, if he is not playing poker with Louisville AD looks like we were played once again for a raise somewhere else. Wonder who is up to bat next if this falls through by morning...all sorts of craziness, have never seen anything like this over the last 40 years of following UT.
all these folks that are already crying and complaing...just wait until Strong's first recruiting class & keeping some of our offensive players from bolting to the NFL...won't be long & they will be eating crow pie, just as Andy told Opie in the Opie's Charity Episode when he was proven wrong..."you and Aunt Bee are having chicken, I'm having crow pie." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Zyyk... whatch it unfold at the 10:00 mark of the video.
I believe that the AD stating they will match any offer in order to keep him speaks volumes. He's had the opportunity to watch Strong in all facets of the job and still wanted him no matter what. The thing he won't be able to match is the power T, all the intangibles of UT, & facilities along with the status of being in the SEC.
seeing some tweets of some de-comiitted recruits of AL & AUB saying that this hire would get their attention and possible consideration.

Two of us shouting this cheer now!
Can't believe that his name has not even surfaced!
Here's a rumor starting to float around now, copied this off of a coaching report on the Mr.Sec blog.
Two other “out there” rumors for you: a Chicago reporter posted on Twitter that a “reliable source tells me Tennessee has at least reached out to Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema” and CoachingSearch.com — more on that site below — claims former UNC coach Butch Davis might still be in the UT mix.
Also, it appears here in 'bama land that Auburn is now chasing Kirby Smart pretty heavily at this stage. And the bamer's here are pretty uptight about it on the sports radio in the BHM area.
Breaking News...Chaney is probably gone IMHO. Missouri fires OC. Missouri is Chaney's home.

Ivan Maisel of ESPN just reported on Birmingham AL JOX Sports radio that he has received a tip this morning that Jimbo Fisher for UT is gaining traction & should be watched closely.

How does your entire fan base, the people that fund your JOB, blow up over the idea that Gruden is going to come to UT and then you just call as a FORMALITY?!? This is amazing. Dave Hart and Jimmy Cheek have turned our athletic department into the University of Virginia.

I for one don't believe Hart is the problem...the problem are the power brokers who fight over losing the power brokering position. Happening all over College Football. Saban has been able to successfully set the AL program free of such stupid battles & implement a plan that caused the program to rise to prominence. Going to have to happen here at UT before we will see any success. If power brokers win out again, get ready for the same old mediocrity over and over. Its a mindset that has to change in order for success to be unleashed within the organization.
Well, just about sums up this whole college football realm these days..."Fantasy World" & I've been a college football fan all my life--we've pushed all this way past the point of reality...I for one say its time for a reality check, if not careful we are about to push it all to the point of collapse like the rest of our culture...this has become just pure stupidity!
