Losing wouldn't be as difficult if we had something positive to look forward to next year, like a super star crop of top recruits to reinvigorate our ranks. A 5 star reincarnation of Payton Manning for a QB or something to energize and excite the fans for the future. But for God-sake, we are being out recruited by the likes of South Carolina, Arkansas, Auburn, on top of the GA's, FL's, and LSU's (USC, ND, on and on and on)in which we ALREADY cannot stay on the field with as it is. So far Clawson seems like a bust all around. I havent heard of him landing any big fish newby's yet, and he certainly hasn't improved the offense in any way that I can see so far. Discipline has gone to crap (see turnovers, penalties, boneheaded mistakes on field all year). I know a new coach needs a little time to get used to the players, the system, and needs time to settle in but this is the SEC, not Mayberry. Someone better do something or there is going to be an unruly mob of Tennessee fans by season's end. Fulmer is/was a great coach but he needs to give the mob something to shut them up or he really will be tied to the hood of a 4x4 on his way out of Knox before long. The public wants to see a motion in the right direction is all, but it just ain't happening.

All I can say is thank the Lord for Titans football this year otherwise I'd be the drunk one on the board tonight.
It would be much better for the true VOL fans to BELIEVE in the team's ability to pull out the upset here. If we all feel like it is impossible this will leach into the minds of the players and coaches. Thus heightening their own belief the game is an impossibility and creating defeat before the ball is even kicked off in the first place. We have to believe in the seemingly impossible here for the benefit of the team. Stranger things have happened in the SEC and don't forget that Bama's last several SEC games have ended close enough for one big break to have led to an upset. Sometimes, the outcome is all in your head and thinking positively can lead to victory. Much success in football hinges on confidence.
I hope they play tonight like this is the National Championship game and the Bama players/coaches rely on our record to the point of over-confidence. Tonight we can shock the entire SEC, NCAA, and football fans all over the country. This will be the last opportunity for this level of play this year. We all need to put our orange on and scream for our VOLS until we fall out! GO VOLS, STOMP THE BAMANEERS UNDER NEYLAND!!!!

I have also noticed along with many of you that Chavis and Fulmer seem to stick to a rigid guideline whenever we get a lead no matter how minor it is. Slow down the tempo, each offensive possession run the same play that doesn't work three times then let the defense do the rest. Defense is evidently required to play a deep zone with a mandatory 5 yard cushion and we are not allowed to apply any pressure to the quarterback. This is probably the reason that soooo many of our games end in OT or by some insanely close margin. I personally feel that in the SEC, with as competitive as it is, to be effective you have to turn the engine on and leave it on until the game is over. I understand that there is some skill in good clock management, running the ball to burn time when your ahead and often, at least the way that TN does it, this makes for some exciting, edge of your seat games. But frankly many of these games should never have been so exciting in the first place. Many times, we threw away the opportunity to slam the door shut had we just not turned off the power. My guess is Fulmer figures that if he loses a game by being overly aggressive with the play calling it will just give his detractors more ammunition to use against him. I just think that the only way we win Saturday is by looking at any lead as fleeting and race for another one like its the cure for baldness. Florida is going to score and usually pretty big numbers so, we cannot let them back in it if we get them out of it in the firstplace. GO VOLS! PLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEE BEAT FLORIDA B/C I CANNOT TAKE ANOTHER WHOLE YEAR OF DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!!

I agree that the stars aren't the whole story but you have to give the recruiting services some credit as they have paid employees that work full-time on evaluating the quality of these players. Memphis routinely averages 3 star recruiting classes. I know we are more concerned with the coaches evaluation but I sure don't want to become another Memphis-like football program. SEC bottom feeders with SC, Kentucky, Vandy, Miss St, Ole Miss. We are a powerhouse and part of that mystique is the ability to attract top talent to your team. We are not attracting that talent level. We didnt last year and so far havent this year either. A couple of 3's are fine but we should defintiely not have another goose egg for 5 star recruits AGAIN this year. I am not kidding, I have never said an ill word about Fulmer, but something has to give here. Losing to UCLA and the lackluster recruiting of late. I need something more from this program than what I have seen recently in all respects.

From what I saw last night compared to Florida on Sat. We are up a creek this year. We will get smoked by FL and GA. I cannot imagine this coaching staff improving that dramatically in such a short amount of time. The prevent crap and 42 passing plays---WTH!!!! Clawson may not have the right talent for his coaching scheme. It will take years for him to recruit players with the attributes he needs to be successful (maybe). Play calling last night was horrid on offense and defense, the o-line that is supposed to be the biggest strength of the team looked porous as Crompton was sacked, hurried, and knocked down. Meanwhile, UCLA had like 3 o-line starters that had never played a college snap and Craft sat back all day long without a care in the world. WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR FIELD GOAL KICKER!!! I mean basically 4/5 misses. Jesus, I guess I have been taking the quality of our field goal unit for granted for a while because that single handedly lost the game, right next to Foster's fumble, and Crompton's inaccurate passing. Sorry, dont mean to berate the team but I am so f'n pissed off right now. That performance last night was a joke and probably ruined our national football recruiting for the rest of the year. When you lose nearly every nationally televised game, usually your recruiting suffers as a result. So much for a single five star recruit in our future. This program had been on a gradual slope of improvement but it looks like last year was our real shot and we missed it. We may have another four or five years before we field a true national championship contender again. God help the Vols and all of us fans this year! I CANNOT TAKE THE HUMILIATION OF ANOTHER FLORIDA BLOWOUT!!!!

Our secondary will be quite different next year, I believe Lindy's is predicting it to be #3 in the SEC. As far as the "d-foundation we set last year" comment, end of the season last year our defense stepped up even though our secondary was completely decimated due to injuries. I believe the foundation has been set for a surprising Tennessee season full of success. A lot of the SEC is writing us off next year as a weak team which may play into our hands if Clawson really has worked as much magic as I keep hearing he has with our offense. Many of our perennial rivals should be quite disappointed in the Vols new look next year!

We have to do better next year, I cannot believe Mississippi State and South Carolina out recruited us this year, coaching changes or not!!

I just cannot believe how potent or recruiting has become recently, and I am not just talking about the signees for this year. Take a look at 2009's recruits on Scout or Rival. TN's name comes up so many times, it is ridiculous. Not to say we'll land 1/3 of the kids we're talking to but you can really tell that Pearl and his staff have been gettin' busy on the recruiting trail. We have never been blessed with the level of talent we are attracting now a days. With Hopson signing, we should have a top 10 recruiting class this year with so much experience returning. The next couple years should be entertaining for us all.

I had hoped that he would have had one more season after this year. I hoped he would have retired from the head coaching position by his own volition and then taken another possibly less demanding position within the athletic department. A position where he could still assist UT Football by helping whomever the new head coach is to get his staff rolling quickly, familiar with the ins and outs of our program and up to speed on the development of the current players. Maybe he could have spent the majority of his time focusing on improving our recruiting nationally and scouting future high school targets. It is no secret that Fulmer is one of the most talented recruiters in all of FBS. I hate the thought of that skill going to support some other school's program when we are in such desperate need. Especially, considering the unchecked success of the rest of the SEC in this area recently. Additionally, a prospective head coach considering the position would be much more interested in a position where the previous successful and future Hall-of-Fame coach was not publicly made a spectacle of by the school, the media, and worst of all his own fans. God knows that our program was not working correctly in any shape, form, or fashion and the writing has been on the wall for quite some time now regarding the need for a shake up at the top of the football program. However, this whole thing should have been orchestrated a little better with an eye to the impact that this fiasco would have on the university on the national stage.
I say this directly to you Mr. Hamilton, I hope for your own sake, that your actions were predicated upon some fantastic, impassible opportunity that you became aware of in some sudden and exciting moment. I firmly believe that if you tossed Fulmer out without already having someone up your sleeve that would leave no doubt in the Vol Nation, across all of the SEC, and throughout every heart in this country that mighty Volunteer football is soon to rise again only bigger, faster, meaner, and angrier than ever before. You may well find yourself to be nothing more than a blip along the scroll at the bottom of ESPN News that disappears just as quickly as our memory of any success you ever achieved here. That even includes your most crowning achievement to date, Bruce Pearl. There won't be a Mike Hamilton Day to send you off into a happy retirement and you may even find yourself facing some of the same vile puke for brain idiots that have in the past threatened our coaches and their families so disgracefully. It seems like such a strange twist of fate that with all you have done to improve UT's image, competitiveness, and standing of so many of our athletic programs nationally, that this one decision will essentially determine whether you go down in history or infamy, to be revered or reviled for the rest of time in the annals of Tennessee lore.
Good Luck! Go Vols!
