Ah yeah the '96 Citrus Bowl. Every time I'm reminded of Eddie George saying how Peyton didn't deserve the Heisman for not winning the big one, I ask myself when he's going to give his up to Tommie Frazier... 'cause, you know, Frazier's Nebraska team won it all that year and Frazier was the Heisman runner-up, while Eddie got, what, like half his rushing average against Tennessee in that loss? Win the big one, indeed.
Anyway, this'll be a great game. Has the potential to rank up there with the home-and-away with Notre Dame in the '90s.

What John Brady should have said publicly after getting canned by Bertman: "The boy did what he did and I had no control over that." (apologies to Pokey Chatman)

Pennington: "For years, SEC teams have beaten up on each other leaving only a couple of 2-loss-or-fewer teams standing at season's end. But the battles among the big boys was great football to watch... This year, instead of seeing good teams outdueling one another in this league, I'm seeing flawed teams that find ways to lose."
Pity we've had to suffer through those lackluster matchups this year like LSU-Florida. Georgia and Bama in OT, too - yawn. Auburn beating Florida with a FG as time expired? Please, just wake me up for the Sportscenter highlights.
Someone, SEC big-boy or otherwise, has been "finding a way to lose" since overtime was adopted. There's another side to this glass-half-empty perspective of Pennington's; it's that pretty much anyone in this conference can beat anyone else.
We probably shouldn't bother paying attention to the Iron Bowl this year, either; it's just a couple 2 and 3 loss west division teams.
Except I sure as heck will. I expect I'll see a hard-hitting, leave-it-all-out-there fight featuring some of the greatest athletes in the country. And that's why the SEC will never be "average".

I don't care one bit why we canceled the UConn series; we don't strictly "need" the game. Once upon a time, we were a lot more limited in who we could schedule if we wanted to play top-notch opposition. Now that's just not true any more, just as it's not true that you have to play Tennessee to find a quality opponent.
Tennessee-UConn has done a ton to develop the game, but now you can play UNC or Duke or Stanford or any of a bunch of others, and have yourself a good game - and that's not even touching in-conference foes, like those LSU folks who knocked UConn out of the tourney last year.
Will I miss playing Geno and company? Sure. I love seeing us compete at the highest level possible, and UConn is still a great program. But I don't think we'll suffer any lack of "relevant" opponents for dropping UConn from the schedule.

Way too many comments for lazy 'ole me to see if this has already been pointed out, so...
Who the heck cares if Portland State recruited him? Do you really think it's a problem if you don't see a big name school offering? Big-time NCAA recruiting isn't the absolute be-all end-all.
Question: What do Troy, TN State, Delaware, ECU, Houston, Arkansas State, Tulane, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan and Appy State have in common?
Answer: First and second round NFL draft picks this past time around.
Sometimes great players get missed by the big-name schools in college. If we just found one, congrats to us!
Anyway welcome to UT Bryce. I hope you have a great career here.
